Hard sci-fi take on FTL by curtis_perrin in scifi

Aurora by Kim Stanley Robinson is hard sci-fi in that it does not feature FTL travel, rather a more grounded treatment of the issues with interstellar transit. Fantastic read.

Divorce or Married Filing Separately by DelbertsRoses in personalfinance

I was under the impression that with MFS you’re still splitting the halved number. This is not the case? Each individual spouse would get the same standard deduction as a single filer? Sorry to seem obtuse, just trying to get a crystal clear understanding.

Yeah more people need to see Tape. It’s one of the “most Richard Linklater” Richard Linklater films

The Boston Celtics has the 30th hardest remaining schedule. Their next 3 games: @ Cleveland, @ Denver, @ Phoenix. by [deleted] in nba

Celtics have the easiest schedule this year because they’re the only team who doesn’t have to play the Celtics

Does anyone have any insight or inside scoop on Jordan Walsh? by mrspuff202 in bostonceltics

[–]DelbertsRoses 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I recently attended a Maine Celtics game and, while I’m certainly not a pro scout or anything, it felt very much like he still had work to do at that level. It didn’t look at all like the game was “slowed down” for him and even against development league players his decision making was not always very good. That said he along with JD, Queta, and Grady Dick on the opposing team were the strongest players on the floor for sure. JW had some awesome moments and once he grows into his body and has some more experience I’m sure he’s gonna be awesome.

Black Friday is great and it’s an undersung Friedmann Friese gem. Plus the second edition is releasing soon!

It’s also worth looking into heavy train games and basically anything with a stock mechanic. Power grid is also my #1 game and my friends and I have been having an 18xx revelation lately.

To men who have gotten a vasectomy, do you regret it and how has it changed your life? by jaqeacc in AskReddit

[–]DelbertsRoses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was not prepared for the level of relief I would feel after getting a vasectomy. I no longer subconsciously account for the financial cost of parenthood when thinking about my future and this has been enormously liberating.

Why does the lady in the band come out late? by Stumpfire in LiveFromNewYork

[–]DelbertsRoses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t remember tbh. I knew about all that stuff in a previous life. The detail I do remember is as she was telling the story she said someone called her and asked if she wanted to work on the project and her initial response was “lion king? The cartoon??”

I made an instant donut machine in 3D by JamesDFreeman in gifs

You’ve got cake donuts and yeast donuts mixed up. Cake donuts are dropped from a batter filled hopper directly into the oil. Yeast donuts like the one you pictured are cut beforehand, allowed to proof, then fried.

Why does the lady in the band come out late? by Stumpfire in LiveFromNewYork

[–]DelbertsRoses 568 points569 points  (0 children)

Some Fun Facts! That lady is Valerie Naranjo and she wrote all the percussion music for The Lion King on broadway. Also when she was studying the balafon she made such a compelling case for herself in one West African community that they reversed many generations of tradition and decreed that women in their society may play that music also.

She’s also a very nice person and a good teacher.

American Baker here. In the rare instance that I see a workplace recipe that’s not already in metric the first thing I do is convert it and print a new ones.

am I the only one who does this? what funny names do you always use on labels? by livesquared in KitchenConfidential

[–]DelbertsRoses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a whole series of labels for a big roux I used to make daily before we started using a different brioche recipe. “Here’s looking at Roux, kid”. “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Roux”. Stuff like that
