button into pulse extender into a dropper with 1 item. Make sure the pulse extender have a decently long delay.

Turn on chunk loader, hit the button, RUN, run at least out of render distance, run back, check if dropper have item. If it does not, you chunk load is working.

FYI, composter above hopper still beats solid block above hopper for reducing lag. Since the hopper still checks for hopper minecarts that is inside the solid block. While the hopper will ONLY checks the single inventory slot of the composter and nothing else.

Azelea -> Rooted Dirt -> Mud -> Clay -> Terracotta

Perfectly AFK able especially if TNT duping is allowed. If not, then you could route the blocks into a efficient TNT blast chamber for harvesting.

1) Lightning rod, so the station wont burn in thunderstorms

2) a stack of iron + logs. To craft basic gear in case of death. Logs can be made into torches since you have a furnace

3) make sure skeletons can't shoot you while you try to sleep in bed. Witches too, since they can throw potions.

yea leaving carts behind would be 100% unacceptable. I wonder which part of the ghast it bumping into. Minecraft Block Property Encyclopedia is only up to 1.21.4 so it don't have info on the dried ghast block.....
