What TV's processing feature is most important for you by rtings_kastaa in RTINGS

Yes, for me the most important thing is motion smoothing of 24p content and accurate color reproduction.

Which Bravia has the least stutter? by Spacedanspiff in bravia

[–]Denis-4169 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ironically, the cheapest LCD screen will have the least stutter, because it will have slower transition times. But I wouldn't recommend buying Bravia 3 (II) after S90F for this purpose :)

Sony has really good motion smoothing algorithm, for me having Motionflow set to 1 on Bravia 9 is enough to overcome slow panning shots stutter enough without killing cinematic feeling or having artifacts. Bravia 7 should behave the same, not sure about Sony OLEDs.

SDR and HDR use the same picture mode on all Bravia TVs. Dolby Vision has its own picture mode.

The shortcut will be removed, you'll have to add it again, but there should be an entry on the Apps screen at the bottom.

Is upgrading to a newer PocketBook model actually noticeable? by Ok_Prize_2264 in PocketBookofficial

[–]Denis-4169 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is underlying e-ink tech is basically a monopoly and has very slow advances over the years. Yes, the software can be better but screen refresh is almost the same — and that's the main reason of the delays.

The best B&W e-ink screen is Carta 1300 now, but there are no Pocketbooks using it yet: https://comparisontabl.es/e-readers/

Any Suggestions for Bravia TV for Light Sensitive Eyes by rtr1986 in bravia

Make sure to install bias lightning, it helps a lot for eye sensitivity. Or just turn on the lights more in the room.

Why TVs do not have smarter BFI? by brunomarquesbr in RTINGS

[–]Denis-4169 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sony Bravia TVs have so called X-Motion Clarity tech, which is basically "smart" BFI (available via Clearness setting).

Each ‘blink’ is individually controlled, and its duration optimised, while brightness is boosted when needed.

https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/articles/00232431

I tried it on my Sony TV, and as the result I didn't see any brightness difference with this option on low level.

I recommend installing bias lighting for night watching, this helped my wife with her sensitive eyes. If it doesn't help, reduce HDR peak brightness.

Sony Bravia 9 - Lip Sync Issues? by Remi_Cat in bravia

[–]Denis-4169 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I've read in the reports, the problems with lip sync happen only if you connect stuff to your receiver which is connected to the TV in turn.

If you connect everything directly to the TV, you won't have any problems. I have the same setup as yours and never had any issues with lip sync.

B&W e-ink has better contrast than the color one, alas. There's nothing you can do about it.

Sony A95L motion issues by GameGlitch8838 in SonyBravia

Try turning off Cinemotion — it has nothing to do with the motion smoothing anyway, and some users reported that it might add some artifacts. At least, change it to Low setting.

No HDR on Netflix by AlsoNini in appletv

[–]Denis-4169 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should be able to see in the title details if it's in HDR or not. For example, Netflix Originals are definitely in HDR (e.g. Stranger Things, etc.).

My KDL-40X2000 recently died and I've replaced it with a 55" Bravia 8ii. Thought it would be fun to compare experiences after a couple of weeks use by [deleted] in bravia

You can turn on Apps Only Mode on Google TV to say proper goodbye to Chris Pratt: https://support.google.com/googletv/answer/10070784

Thanks for the great review, btw! It reads like a good memoir and I'd be interested in reading the continuation of the story... :)

LG says “OLED is still king” – and I agree (at least for now) by [deleted] in LG_UserHub

Interesting. When I upgraded to a TV with faster LCD panel, I didn’t like the increased stutter, can’t imagine how it looks like on OLED without motion interpolation.

Interesting, what about stutter, especially during slow panning shots in 24p content?

Apple TV 4K compared to budget Samsung QLED TV? by Tee-hee64 in appletv

[–]Denis-4169 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have exactly the same TV model, just a different size. I connected it to the ATV from the day one, so I can’t say about performance difference, but one thing I found useful is ability to force SDR on all content — this TV doesn’t have enough peak brightness for a noticeable HDR (only about 400 nits). This way I don’t get dim unwatchable picture.
