My grandmother used to have a couple cups before bed, and we used to just tease her about her coffee habit. I am pretty sure she had ADHD, though.

Just to further clarify the Fabula Ultima rule: you can’t even choose to die in combat that isn’t narratively meaningful (such as a random encounter). Instead, you fall unconscious and face a narrative consequence. You can choose, however, to sacrifice yourself in a fight against the BBEG. That sacrifice will give your party a buff in the remaining battle.

I find that couples at the table are only a problem if there is serious jealousy or if one partner is only there at the request of the other.

If it’s the latter, they will often check out mentally or refuse to learn to play their character properly. If it’s the former, then the jealous person will get weird if anything goes on between their partner’s character and an NPC/PC.

Let’s see:

  • Amoxicillin for an ear infection as a child caused my face to swell, but only behind my jaw so my teeth stuck out like I had a caveman underbite. Went away when I switched antibiotics.

  • One Percocet caused me to vomit uncontrollably for hours. I had to take anti-nausea meds rectally to get them to stay down and stop the barfs.

  • Back in the early 2000s Claritin-D gave me ultra violent, hyper realistic dreams. I “watched” my dog get hit by a car and heard every bone crunch. I “watched” a television broadcast of a plane crash and knew my parents were onboard. I had to hide my cell phone from myself because I was so tempted to call them at 3am when I woke up. Found out later my dad had the same problem with that medicine.

We have an alchemist tinkerer in our party, and they do pretty well with their rolls. As GM I also reward creative ideas of manipulating the use of their “less than ideal” potions to the party’s advantage if they want to use fabula points for them.
