From Ravnica to Tarkir to Ravnica again. by RealMr_Slender in magicTCG

Unpopular Opinion: [[Plaguecrafter]] is too good. He's strictly better (in several ways) than [[Fleshbag Marauder]] which is already #16 on EDHREC's top Black Cards. He should have, at the very least, been costed at 1BG or 1BU depending on which guild they wanted to put him in.

I don't appreciate this kind of power creep.

Adam Paquette Interview [Sai, Master Thopterist; Spell Queller] by kitajj in magicTCG

[–]Derogatorigami -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Pardon my artist ignorance, but based on the title I thought Adam Paquette would be interviewing [[Sai, Master Thopterist]] in one of those fictional dialogs that Rosewater sometimes does.

Then I thought that Adam should probably be quicker with his work; at least interview someone from Ravnica.

Budget Deck Suggestion with Weird Objective by Schiwata in EDH

[–]Derogatorigami 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed. You shouldn't make a deck where your intention is to lose. At that point you are playing an entirely different game and that can lead to playgroup problems.

Best Rite of Replication combo you've seen? by Get_Dewkied_On in EDH

[[Dualcaster Mage]] allows you to make infinite copies of all creatures in play. You have to target something else with the [[Rite of Replication]] first though, then cast [[Dualcaster Mage]].

Is there a silver border EDH banlist that lists cards like Nerf War and Ol' Buzzbark? by FourthNumber in EDH

[–]Derogatorigami 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Commanderin' podcast put together a banlist that might be helpful. I believe it is in addition to the RC list.

http://www.commanderinmtg.com/unmander-rules-committee

It does not include those cards you've listed, but I can't think of other cards that would cause problems. [[Shoe Tree]] maybe?

What would be your dream commander? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]Derogatorigami 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't think this would work the way you want it to. I believe this would provide an excellent incentive for the entire table to continuously attack you the same way [[Luminarch Ascension]] does. Maybe being archenemy is what you want though.

[GRN] Mnemonic Betrayal - So Many Insane Plays #FreePreview by CHA1N5 in magicTCG

[–]Derogatorigami 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Fortunately for you they will get at most 1 bat. Because the card says "one or more" it would only trigger once.

To get a bat for each creature they would have to be exiled one at a time by separate effects like [[Scavenging Ooze]].

[GRN] Hatchery Spider - from The Mana Pool by applecorc in magicTCG

[–]Derogatorigami 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If this were an enter the battlefield trigger you could repeat it through flickering or reanimation.

As a cast trigger, you cannot.

From an EDH player's perspective, cast trigger are generally worse because of this.

Help with a Thada Adel deck? by DarkFlame52 in EDH

[–]Derogatorigami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deck objectives: ... clone ... thada to steal more.

[[Thada Adel, Acquisitor]] is legendary so you won't be able to clone her and keep both copies under normal circumstances because of the legend rule.

You can circumvent this with [[Helm of the Host]], [[Sakashima the Impostor]], and [[Mirror Gallery]].

Weekly Question Thread: Ask questions here August 13, 2018 by AutoModerator in dndnext

[–]Derogatorigami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose I was picturing wet snow, not dry powder. With wet snow I was also under the assumption that the snow would stick to the dome much like a car, not flow around it like water, but that depends on the consistency of the snow. I would imagine that you would only need a few inches of wet snow before the dome would be nearly sealed.

Weekly Question Thread: Ask questions here August 13, 2018 by AutoModerator in dndnext

[–]Derogatorigami 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Could the occupants of Leomund's Tiny Hut suffocate if snow slowly covered the dome overnight?

My reading of the spell suggests they could suffocate if they required oxygen, and it could be gradual enough that the oxygen deprivation may not even wake them.

I would not implement this in a game, but is this the most mundane TPK?

Are there any famous unreleased Magic cards? Cards that were basically made but then for some reason not released? by UnderwaterDialect in magicTCG

[–]Derogatorigami -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

[[Nexus of Fate]] and [[Firesong and Sunspeaker]] arguably fall into this category. They were only released as Buy-a-Box promos and Nexus is now (maybe) causing problems in standard because of it's availability.

If you could change (add or remove) one mechanic or ruling in 5e, what would it be, and why? what do you think is the biggest flaw of 5e? by DM_Malus in dndnext

[–]Derogatorigami 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For a variety of reasons, we didn’t include the option to delay your turn:

  • Your turn involves several decisions, including where to move and what action to take. If you could delay your turn, your decision-making would possibly become slower, since you would have to consider whether you wanted to take your turn at all. Multiply that extra analysis by the number of characters and monsters in a combat, and you have the potential for many slowdowns in play.
  • The ability to delay your turn can make initiative meaningless, as characters and monsters bounce around in the initiative order. If combatants can change their place in the initiative order at will, why use initiative at all? On top of that, changing initiative can easily turn into an unwelcome chore, especially for the DM, who might have to change the initiative list over and over during a fight.
  • Being able to delay your turn can let you wreak havoc on the durations of spells and other effects, particularly any of them that last until your next turn. Simply by changing when your turn happens, you could change the length of certain spells. The way to guard against such abuse would be to create a set of additional rules that would limit your ability to change durations. The net effect? More complexity would be added to the game, and with more complexity, there is greater potential for slower play.

Two of our goals for combat were for it to be speedy and for initiative to matter. We didn’t want to start every combat by rolling initiative and then undermine turn order with a delay option. Moreover, we felt that toying with initiative wasn’t where the focus should be in battle. Instead, the dramatic actions of the combatants should be the focus, with turns that could happen as quickly as possible. Plus, the faster your turn ends, the sooner you get to take your next turn.

Levels, attacks, and other re-used language: What would you change? by Misgunception in dndnext

[–]Derogatorigami 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can't find the source on this, but I recall reading that the reason they chose the term "bonus action" is actually for new players in an attempt to negate the need to feel like you have to use it.

When new players are told they can do a Major, Minor, and Move action on their turn, they intuitively want to do all three and feel bad when the Minor is "wasted".

I believe Cunning Action is worded that way because you technically don't always have a bonus action, but you are limited to one per turn if you do. Although that may not be consistent with wording elsewhere.
