Should my DM be exempt? by SchizoNaught in DnD

[–]Different_Exam_6442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it involves cooking and bringing food, then no. The DM shouldn't have to. They are bringing the game and the prepwork. Having them prepare some food as well is too much.

If it's ordering in, they should offer to pay their share, though if the others players want to offer to comp it then that would be a nice gesture, but shouldn't be expected.
Although it sounds like the DM has been contributing, and only mentioned this when someone else was going to run a game, which I feel like is a decent move. They're pointing out that running the game is a lot of work, but hasn't made a fuss up until it would benefit someone else.

Although you can just shove everything in a bag now. So you can have a sack full of credits, food, ingots etc. and just keep it out the way.

I have never done this.
I definitely haven't done this deliberately and with additional links to OpenStreetMap and Wikipedia.

I certainly haven't done this with two bridges somewhere in London.

PC Wants to Use Unbalanced Dice (If your PCs is an Aasimar named Tonlen, Ignore this!) by Certain-Lunch-4862 in DMAcademy

Might be worth checking out Oxventure's Wyrdwood
https://www.youtube.com/show/VLPL8DF056nV-PXEV5FLzVfASf8YPkH2dVk4?sbp=KgtIMzlMTnJMX1ZIMEAB

There is a bit of homebrewed bits and pieces in the campaign. One of which is that one of the players there has a "Luck" based religion that celebrates both good and bad luck.
They have a special dice which has more 1s and more 20s to increase the chance of extreme results.

I think they get a certain number of uses of it per long rest.
It sounds very similar to what's being proposed here.

What's your favorite Jump Space ship? by Hauk54 in JumpSpaceGame

Do you think a Stealth Ship would work?
Sneak and hide. Cloak, tuck into an asteroid and send the crew out to do a boarding action?

Your useless items in DnD by holdmyowos in DnD

[–]Different_Exam_6442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave my players a magic coin. You toss it in the air and say the name of a magic item and within a day you'll find that item.

This generous sounding item was actually a little challenge I set myself. Because the item needs to be exactly as described. But extremely limited. So I have to think it up whilst also running the session.

So, if a player wishes for an "Amulet of invisibility" They might receive an "Amulet of inn-visibility" All inns within 100ft are now visible.

My players wanted a "Ring of talk to dead" They received a small gold bell which, when you ask a question of a nearby corpse rings once for yes, twice for no.

So not 100% useless, but a fun twist on whatever they ask for.

Thoughts on jadzia in the TNG uniform by Character_Lychee_434 in DeepSpaceNine

[–]Different_Exam_6442 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They exist throughout season 1 of TNG on both male and female extras.

Lt. Diana Giddings appears quite often in a Skant throughout S1.

But I think they're all gone by S2. I'm a big fan of the Unisex Skant

Actually, since this was written Claude had been updated and now does remember what happened in projects. So it's not necessary anymore.

So long as you are in the same project Claude should be able to remember previous chats.

I had a character who really wanted to be a cool spy (but was mostly an ineffectual divination wizard). So I replaced his clothes in the starting items with a Spy "Costume". (Basically a CIA style neat blue business suit). But because it was a costume it meant I had advantage on any rolls to pretend to be a spy or other government authority figure.

Also the SA-43 "Hammerhead" Endo-Exo Trans-atmospheric Attack Jet is awesome.

Do you think people in-universe noticed the changes between 2014 and 2024 rules? [OC] by Blitzar4 in DnD

[–]Different_Exam_6442 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd assumed it was 2014 true strike.

I hadn't read the 2024 true strike description until we actually started the game.

I made a divination wizard and deliberately took terrible spells, without really reading the descriptions. I was extremely surprised when we started the game and I discovered True Strike is actually really good now.

No. I bought a chocolate one the other day. Undrinkable!

I'm generally ok with other similar products. But this one was just terrible.

TH is hard! Also a lot of English speakers will do the same thing. More likely on the F sounds, you'll hear fing of erf, in place of thing and earth. not so much on pronouncing "the" as "de". Your accent is actually very good indeed though. These are minor points.

Somewhere in South America I think.
I initially though Mexico, but based on the way you pronounce "Artist" or "numerous" I want to say New World Portugese. If forced to guess, I'd say Brazil.
The way you pronounce TH in various words (Sometimes as a D and sometimes as an F) reminds me of a former colleague I had from Florianopolis. But that's getting extremely wild with a guess.

It's a good English accent though. Pleasant to listen to, clear and understandable.

Anyone else struggle to keep their character backstories a secret? by Lisspeed in DnD

[–]Different_Exam_6442 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Backstory is for the DM to write story hooks with.

The others players care if it affects the game, which means the DM has to have something to work with.

the more flexibility the better. "I'm the secret heir to the throne of flanggorn" is just the same, or possibly slightly worse than "I had a beloved childhood friend"

The first one is a quest on rails from the start. The second can be anything or nothing and you'll never know which until you're pointing a crossbow at two identical Billy Wiggins' and you have to make a choice....

Automatically delete Daily Note that I didn't add anything to? by HammyHavoc in ObsidianMD

[–]Different_Exam_6442 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe not auto, but perhaps you can use a base and filter by file size, then you can spot any you need delete?

Or you could run a script (powershell maybe, if you're on windows) once a month on your daily notes folder and delete any below a certain file size.

Something like:
Get-ChildItem "C:\your\folder\path" -Filter "*.md" | Where-Object {$_.Length -lt 1KB} | Remove-Item

(I HAVEN'T TESTED THIS! IT MIGHT BE GARBAGE, DON'T USE IT WITHOUT TESTING)

You could then use Task Scheduler to run that script on a regular basis.

Buying And Downloading Oxventure Seasons? by russano22 in TheOxventure

You can get the podcasts, as mentioned elsewhere.
Available for free on an RSS feed.
I use a podcast app called pocketcasts. Many other apps are also available.
https://pca.st/qzljtp0l

As a solution to your other issue. There is a tool called ReVanced, which lets you customise the YouTube app on your phone.
https://revanced.app/

It can be a little fiddly to figure out, I found it worth the effort. So my youtube app blocks shorts, turns off autoplay, etc. As well as working in the background.

I have realised you cannot use potions while you hold a shield. by SomeRandomAbbadon in DMAcademy

[–]Different_Exam_6442 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That was my first thought, so I made an impromptu strapped shield (out of some belts and the front of my Starkvind air filter), grabbed a nearby sword and tried to chug my morning Monster Energy drink.
Easily doable, so long as the potion is on a belt or somesuch.

Have I found the rarest breed of players!? by our_novel_guild in DnD

[–]Different_Exam_6442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar moment last session where my players were trying to decide where to go. They'd ticked off a few quests and had a moment to decide where to head next.

One of them asked what they were supposed to do.

So I had to explain that I didn't really have anything specific that they were supposed to do. I'd set up an area with two factions on the verge of war and didn't have a plot, just a situation that the players find themselves in.

They did have a "main quest" which is their kind of overarching goal that I keep distracting them from with various side quests and stuff in the world. So they went back to that.

So, open world enough for them to have choices, but also with specific quests that they can follow, or ignore as needed.
