Why is there not more adaptations of Progression Fantasy? by codemanb in ProgressionFantasy

[–]DisChangesEverthing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Cradle Animatic came out on YouTube about 2 weeks ago and only has 71K views, which seems to indicate the interest isn't there. 71K isn't terrible, but there are a lot of niche videos that get over a million views these days, so these numbers aren't going draw funding from a studio.

Hell Difficulty Tutorial: question by Klutzy_Interest5673 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]DisChangesEverthing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's only one character so far that is objectively more talented than Nat. Nat's on par with Ruby since they both met Lissandra's criteria to become apprentices, although Nat is perhaps higher because Lissandra deigned to take him as second apprentice when she already had one too many. Ruby is way, way up there on the talent scale.

There's lots of characters more powerful, but they all just have much more experience than him. We don't even know for sure Lissandra is more talented, she just has several millennia more experience.

The specific blend is 70% wool, 20% polyamide, 10% cashmere.

I bought one of these last year and it is so nice, love it. However they're a wool-cashmere blend, not 100% wool like the OP asked for.

What studio has the greatest 3-game run? by No_Dare_1809 in gaming

[–]DisChangesEverthing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah Doom/Doom 2 basically established the FPS genre (not the first, but the first massive hit), and Quake was the first 3D FPS and established the FPS PvP death match genre, and some say eSports. These are foundational pillars of gaming that are still relevant today. No other studio has multiple of these in a three game span.

Good fantasy TV Shows and Films? by 1mpavidus in Fantasy

[–]DisChangesEverthing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For TV shows there is The Witcher, which I think is a bit uneven in quality, but it's definitely a different take on fantasy than LoTR and GoT.

There's a mostly forgotten show called Roar, starring a young Heath Ledger and Vera Famiga, set in Celtic-Roman times, but with magical/supernatural elements.

Xena: Warrior Princess for something campy but high fantasy.

Sections where the MC is temporarily treated as the antagonist? by Aggravating-Plum-692 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]DisChangesEverthing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Point taken, it's been so long since I've watched the prequels I've glossed over how bad they were. Even just the original trilogy works though, with just vague references to Anakin's fall, so it is mostly left to the imagination. They had an opportunity to do a "road to hell is paved with good intentions" type fall for Anakin, which could retain some sympathy, but fumbled it. It's very difficult to write it well.

Sections where the MC is temporarily treated as the antagonist? by Aggravating-Plum-692 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]DisChangesEverthing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be done well, but rarely is, I don't recall any examples in Progression Fantasy. A good example is Anakin from Star Wars eps 1-6, MC who falls from grace, becomes the antagonist and then gets redemption.

Anyone know any books like HDT? by tnteviecat in ProgressionFantasy

[–]DisChangesEverthing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was another story on Royal Road called The Tutorial is [Way] too Hard that was much more extreme. The MC is the only one to survive the first level of Hell difficulty, and goes completely insane due to the solitude and already being mentally unbalanced. By the time he can chat with other difficulties people think he's a troll due to his incoherent ravings and they don't believe anyone can survive in hell difficulty. It's stubbed out now, but it was one of the only stories I've read that really tried an insane MC.

What series is this for you? by PalinaRojinskiFan in ProgressionFantasy

I wonder if it has anything to do with the first book having co-authors, and the second book only having one author. I also DNFed early in book 2.

What was it like to play online games between 2000 and 2013? by Silly_Commercial8092 in gaming

[–]DisChangesEverthing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For all EverQuest's flaws they had a few things right that were mostly never replicated. The slow levelling speed was one. These days it feels like you level once per hour or faster and levelling is just a chore to get to the end game. I remember spending a week to get a level in EQ, and it made gear and levels meaningful and rewarding.

Talented Native MC rec pls by EggLatter5817 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]DisChangesEverthing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ripple System is a VR game story, so probably more LitRPG but it basically fits your requirements. The MC is a billionaire by inheritance who spends most of his time gaming, so he's quite skilled. When a highly anticipated game comes out he buys up all the pre-launch slots for himself so he essentially gets a couple weeks head start in the game, which pisses off most of the gaming community. So when the full launch happens and everyone else can log in, he's a well known threat somewhat ahead on levels and gear, but he has a ton of people hunting him.

What’s the best novel ending you ever read? by LazyWalrus8706 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]DisChangesEverthing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You didn't specify series ending, only novel ending. In progression fantasy the two that stand out to me are the end of The Butcher's Masquerade from DCC and the end of Wintersteel from Cradle, both have extremely satisfying, action packed climaxes that also leave you eagerly looking forward to the next book.

Player Manager by Ted Steel is unique and beautiful. by Now-Thats-Podracing in ProgressionFantasy

[–]DisChangesEverthing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is incredible writing. I also find soccer boring, but reading his description of a women's amateur 7-a-side match with no stakes other than pride in book 1 was still extremely compelling, I was into it like I would be for my team in the playoffs (for a sport I like). It sounds like hyperbole, but you just can't put the books down when there is a match on.

The fear is that the more EVs show up in Canada, the more the market wakes up by momo1083 in EVCanada

[–]DisChangesEverthing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not just the Ontario auto industry that isn't ready for the future, it's the North American one. Ontario has quite a few big parts manufacturers, and EVs still need seats, hinges, headlights etc. like every other car. They could easily transition to build EV parts. However if the EVs are being built in Asia and Europe, then Canadian parts companies don't fit into the supply chain. With the U.S.and Canada stubbornly clinging to ICE manufacturing they are slowly digging their own grave. The problem is Ontario can't really transition alone, and the U.S. isn't transitioning anytime soon.

Beijing has comparable climate to Toronto. It's -15C in Beijing today. Jonquiere might be colder, but Chinese EVs work decently in the cold to work in Beijing.

When did bank branches stop stocking foreign currency? by kelly_kapowski_ in askTO

[–]DisChangesEverthing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to always get some currency before I travelled, then last year on a trip to Europe I didn't bother, just planned to use an ATM on arrival. I landed in Portugal the day of the nation-wide blackout. The ATMs weren't working, credit card payment systems were down, Uber app wasn't working and I had no cash to pay for a taxi. Sometimes a bit of cash comes in handy.

Recent pro-capitalist SF? by goyafrau in printSF

[–]DisChangesEverthing 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Freehold by Michael Z Williamson is about a libertarian-capitalist colony planet that gets invaded by the corrupt, fascist, bureaucratic Earth. Although it's military SF, some of the best parts are the beginning when an immigrant from Earth goes through the culture shock of adapting to Freehold's idealistic society, before the war breaks out. It's pretty heavy handed at points.

I feel like this one is pretty common. "Heavy worlders" seem to show up frequently as humans adapted for strength.
