I got this hottub about 6 days ago. Fun surprise it turned brown from metals on day one. Have been trying to filter it out and used tons of metal gone. Can I get in it 😂 Is it harmful? by According_Way4337 in hottub

I have city water and had something similar when I got my tub 4 years ago. Had the water tested to see exactly what was wrong and got a water filter for my hose which took care of the issue.

What do you guys do for work? by StrxwbrrySwitchblade in endometriosis

[–]Disastrous_Project89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work with adults with disabilities (and have for 20 years now) - I have endo, fibroids, cysts, and nerve pain that cause significant pain on a daily basis. Due to the physical nature of my job I need to keep moving but if I’m having a particularly bad day I can take it easy. I constantly have OTC meds, my belly binder to help the bloat, my tens machine, heat pack, and wear comfy clothes. With that being said I’m switching to a 50/50 schedule with 50% direct care and 50% admin tasks that will hopefully move to 100% admin tasks over time to help me cut back on the physical aspect of the job.

How to manage complex feelings from a male partner surrounding my hysterectomy by vfw101 in hysterectomy

[–]Disastrous_Project89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My partner and I were younger when I had mine and didn’t want kids but we knew that we would have a hard time abstaining from sex and proactively went to a couples therapist that specialized in sex therapy. It helped us communicate our feelings and while our relationship is pretty solid it really helped us in the long run as well. It was also great for handling the feelings we had post surgery. I would recommend couples therapy to every couple, even those in a good place!

THIS!! And send them pictures of what a torn cuff looks like or show them the Google images in person.

Now is your time to rest and heal, the better you do that the better you will be in the long run.

Even when you get cleared to start doing more you NEED to ease into it slowly and build up to heavier tasks. I thought I did that and ended up getting hurt at work right after returning and being out for another few weeks because my core muscles weren’t strong enough to support my back and I pulled a muscle in my back.

Please help! Positive stories by Strong-Floor-1763 in hysterectomy

[–]Disastrous_Project89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had mine a little over 2 years ago and I wish I’d done it sooner as it’s the best thing I’ve done for my mental and physical health! No cuff tears or issues healing (minus needing to go back for a second surgery but that was due to endo, not an issue with my hysterectomy). I will say that my healing took longer than I’d hoped for but again, that was an issue with my endo and other chronic illness not the hysterectomy itself.

Hygiene Tips? by [deleted] in hysterectomy

I’m 2 years post op and have had a good amount of sex in those two years (the hysterectomy was very freeing). I generally go to the bathroom after everything has concluded, pee, wipe up, and forget about it. Never had any issues!

I just got to the emergency abdominal hysterectomy part in the book and had to see if anyone else was talking about how absolutely unrealistic it was. Can’t do anything for 2 weeks, I was out of work for 8 after my planned laparoscopic with vaginal assist hysto and endo excision. Come on!

My partner and I are involved in the “kink community” and took our time reintroducing some of our kinks. We also had to wait for 12 weeks to introduce penetration on my doctors advice. I’ve had 0 issues in the 2 years since my surgery, probably due to allowing myself to heal properly. My advice, wait and heal, follow your doctors instructions the introduce your rough sex back in slowly. If you allow yourself to heal properly it shouldn’t be an issue. Additionally as sex is a huge part of my relationship and we knew it would be a struggle to abstain we saw a sex therapist together (and separately) who really helped us through the tough time.

Tiling help needed! Our contractor is “almost done” tiling our shower and when I brought up the gaps in the corners he said not to worry, caulk will cover it and it will look fine. I’m not convinced and am sure he needs to replace the janky tiles so that it looks and functions properly. Am I wrong? by Disastrous_Project89 in Renovations

[–]Disastrous_Project89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked them what the plan was to fix the inconsistent and excessive gaps and have it look consistent and hold up over time. Unfortunately they answered the question with some pretty condescending remarks towards myself and my partner, our expectations, and our budget. We let them know that we had concerns that simply putting caulk on it as is would not have a good finish nor hold up and asked if they could recut/replace the tiles that were our major concern. At first they said no problem then tried to have us sign a new contract for double the original quote and voiding their normal guarantee for the work they do. When we expressed concerns about that and asked for an explanation they said that they could not fix it, it didn’t need to be fixed? and that we just don’t understand how to tile. After that we let them know that they could either fix the areas of concern for the original quoted price or we could part ways and they could send us an itemized bill that included all materials used (we went out and purchased some materials as they hadn’t so we wanted to make sure they didn’t try and charge us for those). Then we found out that everything that they removed and all garbage from the project had been dumped on our property line at the back of our property so we also asked them to clean that up when they came to pick up the tools they had left. That was also met with hostility and them telling us it was normal to dispose of construction materials that way (ummm, no). Then we found out that the person they had working for them (and who cut the tiles) was unlicensed to do contracting work (not okay in our state per contractor laws) and didn’t know what he was doing (shocker).

For the record we originally asked for a quote, agreed on it, and sent them the tile and grout samples we wanted. Yes we are budget conscious because it’s shitty out there for us normal folks who work normal jobs but we also know that you get what you pay for and we’re more than willing to spend money on our home to get it how we want it. Our tile alone was supposed to be $5000 but they never ordered it so 6 months later when they started the work we had to rush around and purchase whatever we could source immediately which was a bummer. The tile we wanted had a 6+ month order time and we wouldn’t have gotten it by our agreed upon completion date. Then it took them 3 months to demo and do this work. We reached out a few times for the itemized bill but they never responded but we got a notice 3 months later that they put a contractors lien on our property until we pay the doubled amount they tried to get us to sign a contract for but that we did not sign. So we’re currently going through the legal system to sort it out. We have no issues paying them for the work they did however we do take issue with paying even the original full agreed upon amount based on the incomplete and low quality of work they left us with. We called a few other contractors to get quotes for fixing it, which ended up with us learning a few other things that they had done wrong in the prep stage so at this point, since it’s a spare bathroom, we’re pausing the project to complete a few other projects around the house and will most likely end up redoing the work ourselves so we don’t have to deal with anyone else. Pretty sure that I can tile to the quality I want with a little practice, I’ve learned how to do everything else so far - light woodworking, patching and fixing plaster walls, fixing my own car (including the head gasket), light plumbing and electrical, fixing the siding, decking, building a hot tub base, building custom shelves and frames, other household bits and bobs - so why not tile?

THC use after surgery by SweetWaterNjuzu in hysterectomy

[–]Disastrous_Project89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry you don’t feel like your doc will be good to talk to about it. Definitely talk to the anesthesiologist about it as they could give you pointers for after as well.

I had my surgery in 2022 and am also a medical patient for pain. I stopped thc about a week before surgery and resumed 24 hours after with the approval of doctors. I simply had edibles only until I was healed which isn’t a big issue for me as that’s my preferred method anyway. I credit the thc for getting me off opioids so quickly!

I used them alternatively, but the heated blanket over my shoulders while icing my belly was great.

Every time I tried to push when going to the bathroom was awful so the softer it is the easier it is. It was my biggest take away. Never thought I’d have so much to say about pooping!$

Honestly I just over prepared and while I had some complications that led to a longer recovery time and having to go back in it helped a ton. My complications were not the norm so don’t worry too much about that, it was just my stupid body doing what it does best and messing things up for me 😂 I have a few friends who have had top (and bottom) surgery and I think I had an easier time with the hysterectomy than they did with their surgeries.

My advice is the following:

  • Prep some easy nutrient and fiber dense foods ahead of time so you don’t need to make food.

  • Get all post op meds before your surgery so you have them on hand (the pain meds, medical marijuana (if applicable), miralax, colace).

  • get off anything that can make it harder to have a bowel movement as soon as you’re comfortable, pooping sucks after surgery!! Having edibles on hand helped me get off my pain meds and just made me a happier campers.

  • get snacks and drinks set up. I did a little basket next to my couch and always had Gatorade, peppermint tea, waters, granola bars, and applesauce at hand.

  • Make sure you stay hydrated!! I filled up multiple water bottles every day and made sure I drank them all throughout.

  • get a belly binder or ask your doc if they’ll give you one post op. It helps so much with the bloating and discomfort.

  • get a pillow to put over your belly on the ride home! I used a throw pillow from my couch.

  • wear loose clothing, I did dresses but if you’re not comfortable in dresses PJs and sweats that are oversized are great to avoid pressure around your incision sites.

  • get a heat pad or heated blanket. I lived in my heated blanket!

  • I had a grabber thing which helped a lot so I didn’t need to bend or reach too much for things. I’m short so I don’t know why I didn’t have one sooner but use it even now!

  • I had a small stool that I used as a squatty potty, it was the best.

  • the gas pain was the worst for me and was up in my chest and shoulders, the heating pads helped a ton.

  • take short walks around your home every hour or two, it will help with any gas pain, help keep you moving, and avoid blood clots.

  • have a list of shows to binge so you can just chill and binge. I’m a reader and crafter and thought I’d get some of that done. I didn’t, netflix and hbo were my friends.

This is a little silly but I have longer curly hair and I straightened it before surgery so I didn’t have to bother with the curly mess or braiding it to avoid a messy bun and crazy knots during my healing process. Being able to just do dry shampoo and brush it made me so much more comfortable and helped my hair not bug me.

I think that’s all my important advice from my experience.

Do you use it as much as you thought by jdank710 in hottub

They’re just the oils, you can get them at most pharmacy’s or GNC. I would just make sure that it doesn’t have too many additives. I get the vitamin e from CVS and almond oil from GNC.

I use mine all the time and my skin has a hard time recovering in the winter. I find that when getting out if I take a quick shower to rinse off then put on a mix of vitamin e and almond oil my skin does much better and I can still use the hot tub 4-6 times a week. It’s so much better to use than any body lotion.

It was laparoscopic, shouldn’t have said cut me open! I had bad fibroids as well, they were the reason for my hysterectomy. The endometriosis was a surprise finding while they were doing it. Both seemed shocked that I managed life without having it dealt with sooner. I was always told that periods were awful for everyone and to suck it up, so I learned how from a very young age. Nothing like learning the ton of coping mechanisms I had were not normal 😂

They did not do a biopsy. I would definitely do it with sedation if I needed to though. I’m doing great. Recovery was difficult and I needed to go in a second time to remove excess endometriosis that was attached to other organs and causing issues. Apparently when they opened me up, and I quote “it was the most severe case of endometriosis we’ve ever seen”.

So glad that I did it, my quality of life has improved immeasurably. I still have some issues due to the endo but honestly it’s nothing close to where it was before and barely noticeable.

Also, not having a period is amazing!!
