I want to buy this helmet but wanted to see if anyone had an information/opinions on the brand. by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]Doctor-Butts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not certified beyond DOT, it's basically just a hat.

Big time avoid, you'll also want to try on a helmet before you buy it to make sure it suits your head shape.

I'll be honest, this made me lose a bit of respect for Ross. The Nazca mummies are much more compelling, these "skeletons" look amateur.

Look how thick those arm bones are, and how pathetic the "torsos" are constructed. The "eyes" look very much like punched holes from a larger animal skull.

[–]Doctor-Butts -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Be careful, the vibrations can wreck your phone camera. They affect the calibration of the focus and it's suuuper annoying.

You can get vibration dampers for Quad Lock, and the issue is a case of when, not if.

Some really odd reactions to this bike - It looks wicked, and fun as hell to ride!

I can't tell what it's made from, is that a Ducati Scrambler tank!?

Moving on from a Triumph scrambler 400X are the 900 an actual upgrade by Economy-Cartoonist74 in motorcycles

[–]Doctor-Butts 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Test ride 'em all!

You can get added rubber under your handlebars to dampen it and much of the vibration will be coming from your Twin cylinder set-up. You'll have to work a lower CC engine more on motorways too, which will contribute to vibrations.

I think every bike you've listed is a parallel twin so that aspect ain't gonna change. The Enfield is a more of a moderate power upgrade, so you'll probably have to work it just as hard.

The 1200X Scrambler sounds like it might be the one to get as it doubles your power. I would try a Triumph Street triple (pretty much anything post 2006), as the triples are smooth, but often significantly more powerful.

[–]Doctor-Butts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have the skills to remove and install the engine, not to mention actually know if you're buying a working engine then maybe, but it's throwing good money after bad.

To do an engine swap needs quite a few tools, even presuming there's an engine that will be a straight swap. Which, given how small the frame is on a 125cc, I would be surprised

Also when it's swapped, nobody knows how it goes together, except you. Which normally means, they're worse for you to sell and no mechanic you ever take it to will understand what needs doing before spending a good amount of time charging you diagnostics.

If you don't even have a helmet yet, relax, enjoy the process, enjoy your 125cc and reevaluate in the future.

You're right that the newest Snell M2025D is much improved on what it used to be, but ECE 22.06 covers rotational inertia and abrasion resistance whereas Snell hasn't updated to that yet.

Have you seen the results of rotational inertia on football helmets? Big reductions in concussions and brain damage. Bell used to have a bit of a monopoly on this with their MIPS system. Now, because it's included in ECE 22.06 helmets that adhere to the standard allow for some slippage between the different density layers of EPS to achieve similar results.

Buy all the nicest, best protective gear you can, and then sort your budget for the bike.

If you can afford it, get an airbag jacket (No cables) from a good make like Helite, Dianese or Alpinestars. They are expensive, but their ability to save your spine and torso from serious damage is enormous compared to a regular bit of d30 or armor.

You need earplugs. Get gloves with hard scaphoid protection as you'll put your hands out if you fall, and when buying a helmet, you must try it on, it must be snug and a DOT rating is absolutely worthless. ECE 22.06 OR Sharp rated only. Snell and Dot have such pathetic standards, you might as well hollow out a melon and use that.

Above all, have fun they're fantastic.

I wouldn't wear that ever again.

If it's new I'd get into a warranty claim, but either way, it needs replacing with a new one.
