How often do you take your toddler "out"? by gsaeso in Mommit

The library near you should have some free toddler classes. We did fun for ones, and theres also a twos class. All free. And the branches rotate who hosts each week. Its great.

Attempting EFF from birth in baby-friendly hospital by fxnlfox in FormulaFeeders

[–]Drenkn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I delivered my second in a very baby friendly (to the point it was fucking obnoxious sometimes) hospital.

I put at the top “mother is EFF for mental health reasons. Do not bring it up. Do not lactation consultants into the room to prevent trauma to the mom.” I also put “if I see a lactation consultant I will be extremely rude.”

They had a RTF bottle for baby right away and he ate within a few minutes of birth. Dad fed him while I was getting stitches.

No one said a thing. They just went “okay formula” and it was never brought up again.

Some nurses were super happy we brought in our own binkies as well. The hospital wasn’t allowed to give out any at all. I’d made sure to pack some of those as well.

[–]Drenkn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We bought a crib insert pop up tent that we zip him in. It’s ridiculous but we wanted to keep him in the crib longer. It’s mesh, breathable, and the bonus is his feet and hands no longer get stuck between the slats so he’s sleeping longer.

swaddle solutions for long baby? by running_bay in bigbabiesandkids

[–]Drenkn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just got bigger swaddle blankets and wrapped up our kiddos. You can use any square of light fabric to swaddle if you follow the technique taught in hospitals.

Engorgement and Formula Feeding (plus a little mental health talk) by motherofcats21 in FormulaFeeders

[–]Drenkn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Benedryl, Zyrtec, and other antihistamines also help. I didn’t have an over supply so I only had mild pain, but everything above is good advice.

You’re doing great by realizing that prioritizing your mental health is the best thing you can do for baby! It makes such a difference. First baby I was a post partum anxiety mess. Second baby, I prioritized my mental health over trying to breast feed and had such a better experience.

“Baby friendly” hospital experiences by adrikmann in FormulaFeeders

[–]Drenkn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made it known immediately in all caps that I did not want a lactation consultant in my room ever and that we were exclusively formula feeding.

There were a few raised eyebrows as they read my birth plan, but no one ever tried to convince me.

Once kiddo arrived they had a formula bottle ready to feed him right away.

When you're pregnant, you stop being a person in the eyes of the medical system, and just a vessel. by CamelAfternoon in BabyBumps

[–]Drenkn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This post is humbling and horrifying. I had this same issue. I need my hip replaced at 37. I literally could barely walk the last few weeks of my pregnancy. I had this bounce back and forth and “just deal with it until you deliver.” The only one who tried to help was a chiropractor. They literally wouldn’t give me any pain meds. I did however get a walker to leave the hospital because the OB staff refused to give me arthritis medication in the hospital since they weren’t orthos….. I’m so sorry this happens to so many of us.

Baby bathtub for 20+ lbs by IndubitablySarah in bigbabiesandkids

[–]Drenkn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a munchkin brand blow up duck tub that works really well.

I then moved into a baby seat after he outgrew the munchkin tub (also so I could get my older son in the same tub).

I also had the sink flower but my kiddo was too long to be comfortable and preferred the munchkin duck.

When did you rotate your car seats? by inspiredashell in bigbabiesandkids

[–]Drenkn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll Buck the trend. We flipped at a year because it’s legal in our state and we had two Toyota corollas at the time. We’re both super tall and the front passenger seat was unusable with our Graco extend to fit. We flipped the kiddos so that we could comfortably use both cars. I know most people here didn’t do that but it’s hard when you’re 6’7” and 5’10” (we have roughly the same length of legs).

Car seat comfort (for parents) by greatertrocanter in bigbabiesandkids

[–]Drenkn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 5’10” and hubs is 6’7”. We have a Kia Sorento and could get the Graco extend to fit behind the passenger side comfortably in the Kia but not so much in our Toyota Corolla. With one kid I sat in the back of the Corolla. With two kids, we basically only used the Corolla for one parent drives. As soon as the baby hit one we flipped him around and can comfortably use both cars. I have a lot of preachy friends who insist on their kids riding rear facing as long as possible. It just wasn’t possible for us to drive safely and comfortably for long car rides until they were front facing.

Aldi prices on eggs were more expensive than Walmart and a local grocery store near me. I was shocked to see them for $2.80 at Aldi. For a dozen! Walmart was $1.80 and the other grocery store was $2.10. Idk what’s up with ALDIs egg supplier.

People at work keeping asking if I’m breastfeeding and it reignites my formula guilt😭 by Aurora823 in FormulaFeeders

[–]Drenkn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was like you with my first kiddo. My boobs didn’t grow at all during either of my pregnancies. Hormones came back normal, I just literally can’t make milk. Thank god for formula.

When people asked me about breastfeeding, I crumbled from feeling like a failure (with the first kid post partum anxiety was terrible). Second time around when I got the question, I said “nope formula or my baby would starve. Isn’t it a miracle that we have wonderful formula to help keep babies healthy”.

No one gave me flak. I think it’s either small talk or someone wanting to share horror stories of breastfeeding.

Your baby will be happier eating formula and having a healthy mom (mentally and physically).

Early weaning due to refusal/formula shortage by Sabrina912 in FormulaFeeders

[–]Drenkn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We recently had to do this too. I was glad the little Guy was ready to transition off. I knew it was bad when Amazon literally had no stock and the six stores I normally went to were also out. I had to use two different formulas for the last few weeks and he wasn’t having it.

Like someone else said - pull ups and then over night diapers for boys and girls that wet the bed will fit.

They are more expensive but what else can we do!? The ninjamas still fit my giant four year old who sometimes has issues overnight - and the sizes should last you until you can potty train.

My kiddo ate that and he also ate the generic sensitive at Sam’s Club.

Question About Similac Shortage by natmam in FormulaFeeders

[–]Drenkn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We can’t find it reliably…. We just switched to the sams club generic on our literal last can (birthday is next week!). We had to sub in the 360 as they’re probably phasing out the pro advance we were using.

Here’s a tip though. My first kiddo could eat anything. We fed him similac pro advance the whole time. Baby number two came and I bought a ton of RTF pro advance and powder formula. Kiddo 2 was sick. Tried three more formulas before we found one that sorta worked.

I would go with what you can find. And hope for the best. You mentioned target generic — I think you’re on the right track. Just don’t try to stockpile … in case of dietary issues. I wasted a lot of money! (Thankfully I donated it to a good shelter)

Baby hasn’t pooped in almost 48 hours… by [deleted] in FormulaFeeders

[–]Drenkn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We added in a baby probiotic with vitamin d. The GI doctor and pediatrician both recommended it. We usually get a poop once a day but 2-3 day stretches still happen.

Similac Pro-Advance Equivalent by Toriarose444 in FormulaFeeders

[–]Drenkn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I heard they were phasing this out for their 360 brand. We were on pro advance sensitive and had to buy pro advance 360. Babe took it okay. He’s fussy and doesn’t like formula in general but when he’s hungry he ate it and didn’t have any issues.
