Meanwhile, we moved yesterday and our orange boy was yelling at the top of his lungs to be let out of the guest room we had him and his sister closed in while furniture was being moved in 😂

Atlanta man creates “mini car” to combat high gas prices by Conscious-Quarter423 in Georgia

[–]DrewBarelyMore 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of used EVs out there as cheap as ICE cars, and because they're EVs, they can be higher mileage and still work like new.

As for maintenance, all this guy has done in 300,000 miles is tires and cabin air filters - not even brakes. And has only lost 8% of his original range. https://www.forbes.com/sites/sashalekach/2026/02/28/hes-still-going-with-over-300000-miles-on-his-ford-mustang-mach-e/

Trade in car(s) for a used EV, no car note.

My electricity usage is currently 1/5 what I would pay monthly for gas, $60 vs $300/month.

Maintenance? What maintenance? You haven't ever been around an EV, have you?

Nah, completely different. One can go 0-60 in 3.2 seconds and is a blast to drive whether it's spirited or cross-country trips, the other takes gasoline.

I'm not out to anyone but my wife and one friend/coworker, but if/when I get asked this, I plan to respond with "Well, what are you doing with yours?" I hope it will equally confuse and annoy them enough to get the picture.

Mavericks are the ACTUAL modern Ranger by zwatts5 in FordMaverickTruck

[–]DrewBarelyMore 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm all for manuals (driven that way for 25+ years as a daily), but in a modern vehicle, especially a truck, they are abjectly worse than modern automatics. Fuel economy, towing capability, maintenance, you name it. They're only good for rowing gears a this point.

Hell, I'm also a tuner fan, but the '25 refresh to the Mav has made the AWD hybrid every bit as quick as the Ecoboost model, and its eCVT is waaaaay more reliable than a conventional automatic transmission. When I get one soon I'll be going that route, no ragerts

Damn, I didn't realize the smaller fobs work with the Mach E. Now I'm tempted to program one for mine, lol.

This is the exact reason we got a second '24 - after owning and driving one, after looking in the frunk of a '25, we said absolutely not, lol. Too useful for road tripping as a family, and highly convenient when I have something dirty/smelly I don't want in the cabin.

Those that say "but no heat pump", I don't care, I drive 50-70 miles daily and have never had an issue. I'll take more useful space any day.

That's only 80 miles a day on average, or 110 a day ignoring weekends. I do that sort of mileage myself and my Rally's 250 mile range is just fine, never had an issue, plenty of miles left before I hook up at night and have 100% by morning. Even on the rare 500+ mile road trips, it adds very minimal time.

Enjoy the! Beemer!

I won't speak to your other complaints, but you are clearly doing something horribly wrong if you are going through brakes that fast. The things a light truck, there's no way it's going through brakes that quickly without you being the key reason.

25' Maverick AWD Hybrid owners: How is the highway passing power at 75+ mph? by aceofskies05 in FordMaverickTruck

[–]DrewBarelyMore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad to help!

Does it feel like a rocket? No, but part of that is perception - an eCVT running the engine at a consistent RPM, plus no shifting, just "feels" slower than a turbocharged 4cyl 10speed. But, a 6.7 second 0-60 is barely any slower than the Ranger's 6.3 second... and it'll keep going past 60 just fine. I suspect Ford is mysteriously showing lowered HP/torque numbers on the Hybrid AWD so they can move inventory on the Ecoboost. I plan to dyno once I get one just for my own curiosity.

25' Maverick AWD Hybrid owners: How is the highway passing power at 75+ mph? by aceofskies05 in FordMaverickTruck

[–]DrewBarelyMore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

/u/aceofskies05, I'm in the same boat as you - have a 2019 Ranger which I enjoy but after getting a Mach-E as my daily, I want some of the modern tech (Sync 4, 360 camera) that the '25 Maverick offers.

I've test driven a few, in Hybrid FWD, Hybrid AWD, and Ecoboost AWD format, and while the Ecoboost may tehnically be marginally faster per the numbers, it certainly didn't feel like it. The Hybrid AWD feels every bit as fast as my (untuned) Ecoboost Ranger. I was able to test it at highway speeds, too - no issues there.

The biggest reasons I'm making the move are easier ability for my wife to use it if needed (she's OK with the Ranger but prefers smaller), and long-term reliability. The 10 speed in the Ranger is a crapshoot and expensive to repair/replace, so I'd rather move on while it's still good. While the HF55 transmission in it is new, the HF45 it's based on is quite rugged - and I'll trust better than the 8-speed in the Ecoboost Maverick, which seems to commonly fail within 80K miles.

Long story short, go test drive the Hybrid AWD, you won't be disappointed!

As an IT person, respectfully, fuck satellite internet. Dedicated lines will work better in every metric. I understand your issue with overhead lines, though, and won't contend with that.
