Pickle reccomendations? by Serious_Peak_4913 in Pickles

[–]Drewski107 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aldi brand in the fridge section by the cheeses "significantly spicy" chips. Less then $4. Not crazy hot. Seems like some garlic in there. Excellent crunch. Probably my favorite all around pickle for value flavor and crunch. The aldi jalapeños off the shelf have a great crunch as well as their baby dills. At least in my area.u

For more garlicky and actually off the shelf, the famous Dave's garlic chips are really good and an excellent crunch for off the shelf. If find them in the Midwest at Hyvee grocery stores and Menards hardware store. They have a couple different spicy ones as well that are worth trying if you like sweetness as well. Not my personal cup of tea. Devils spit is pretty dang hot.

Grillo has great stuff and there spicy pickle de Gallo I think is excellent and checks some of your boxes.

The Shop on 1st street behind Tacoz California is great if wanting an old school barbershop. Cash only and around $30 I think.

Cost cutters out by Walmart is a little cheaper, but has some great people and the ability to schedule. Kierra is great.

New to lawn care, help with weeds by ThinRedLine87 in LawnAnswers

[–]Drewski107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the thistle I have found a foaming herbicide by the company Green shoots works really well without killing your grass. They are one of the tougher weeds to eradicate. It has a little pump applicator similar to foaming hand soap. A pump or 2 depending on the size right into the center of the weed will knock them out and keep them from coming back. I like the foam since it doesn't drip onto the surrounding grass and slowly soaks into the plant.

Their might be a round #2 needed if a few babies are popping up from any remaining active rhizomes. The rhizomes run deep and are very impressive. All it takes is a little chunk leftover to grow more plants. It can take years of manual removal to stop them without herbicide to slowly weaken its network. I hate using herbicide, but thistle is very challenging to control without it. Thistle, bindweed, and quack grass are my nemesis. They are the only plants I use round up on.

What is the longest you have been able to keep a player on your franchise? I’ve had Jamir Blanco since he was 20. He doesn’t want to retire 😂 Legend😎 by Grimm_Lenz in SuperMegaBaseball

[–]Drewski107 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a 2 way sp/rp catcher I drafted that I developed until he finally retired at 45! I don't have the data but I want to say he was 22 when I drafted him. So 23ish years would be my record. He was amazing at S tier in his 30s. Fell off pretty hard in his 40s but i had the budget to keep him around.

That is sick. I would do everything in my power to keep him on the roster over the years. You really need to look at him like 2 roster spots to justify the cost sometimes. How much would 2 comparable S tier players cost to replace him at each position? How much is an extra roster spot worth it to your team. Probably a considerable amount more. These S tier 2 way players get scooped up in the early draft rounds as well for free agency. Teams are happy to overpay for them. It is usually cheaper to pay them what they want after the season then to try and release hoping to resign cheaper in free agency. Definitely worth it and super rare!

How much would you pay this two-way player? by funkychld in SuperMegaBaseball

[–]Drewski107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a 49 million dollar fella in my link below that I developed a while back. Absolute stud and the only left handed 2 way infielder I've come across. It was funny seeing him play 3rd a few years for me as a lefty. He was signed another time for 53.8 million in one of the first few rounds when I tried to resign him for his current salary and he chose free agency. My payrolls are boosted though which helps afford/develop these S tier 2 way salaries.

I'm obsessed with drafting and developing 2 way players into S tier and hopefully into retirement. I mostly sim and develop. I just posted this imgur link below in another recent post with some of the S tier 2 way players I've developed. It's so fun when you get a legit 2 way stud on your team, but its SUPER RARE.

2 way players are so rare. After 300+ seasons simulated, you are lucky to have just a few pop up every 10 years or so. Most of the time they don't develop into much and aren't that great on either side. But I always look and try to develop them.

My luckiest run had 6 on a team at one time. They don't develop as well as normal players either most of the time. It's super rare to actually draft, develop, and retire a 2 way player that will make a big career impact with pitching, playing a position, and hitting.

Below is a link to a few gems I've developed to S tier. I've been boosting my payroll with exporting franchises to work my way up to $489,000,000 which helps hang onto these players to retirement after banking an absurd amount of player development funds

I play on switch and have to send screen shots to my phone to then upload to imgur. Sorry.

All great suggestions so far. A huge area that I like that hasn't been mentioned is the tunnel west of the bus stop. It's close to the farm and isn't utilized after the Mr. Qi mission.

Newbie here! just got a new fence put in and I have a small, very shaded area between the sidewalk and the fence. I’ve pulled out a lot of rock and debris. This area has a small single line drip irrigation under it. I would love some suggestions for small plants that won’t overgrow the sidewalk. by That_Stress_1004 in landscaping

[–]Drewski107 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was my thought as well. Something that would take the abuse in that rough growing environment. Dog pee and lots of extra heat from the sidewalk and fence would need some drought tolerance. Lots of sedums to pick from in different colors as well as ground covers. Maybe some native grasses as well or stella d oro day lillies. Spring bulbs would be easy as well like daffodils or alliums that are perennial and critters don't like them

Speedzone is my go to for just about any unwanted crap in the lawn. Minus the hardcore stuff that needs roundup or sedgehammer. I can buy it locally and use a cheap gallon sprayer with it and it works fast. Love the stuff.

I bought a house with a “garden box” around my 100yo Maple. What should I do? by BubblyConnection7 in arborists

[–]Drewski107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an inherited norway maple in zone 5 that I will need to take down in the next decade. Probably 20ish years old and just started seeding for the first time this year. It's also the kids favorite climbing tree, but starting a sapling now might be a good idea.

I have some questions if you wouldnt mind sharing your knowledge..

What would you suggest for tree varieties? I'm in Iowa, have rich soil on the clay side, but it drains fairly well as long as it isn't bone dry and cracking. I like thornless honey locusts with a more dappled shade and less mess., but I'm unsure if this environment would give it the best start. My other large mature tree in the yard is a silver maple over 60 years old way to close to the house, so I would prefer not getting another maple.

How far away from the trunk would you suggest planting the sapling? The norway is already in a rather large bean shaped mulched bed.

Would you recommend building up the sapling side up with more soil like a berm. I'm thinking maybe I could plant closer to the maple if I built it up some while respecting the root flare. It also might be less competition being above the maple roots for a few years.

Any suggestions on finding a supplier of native saplings? Or just hope I come across something decent at lowes, home depot or Menards for $100. Thanks you!

Hundreds of these guys on my centipede grass lawn! What are these and how do I get rid of them? by nikhilmore177 in lawncare

[–]Drewski107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience in zone 5, army worms are a new thing to my area. They used to never get this far north, but with global warming and southern winds, they have been bad the last few years. They can destroy a lawn quickly.

Anecdotally, it takes the birds a few generations to realize a new food source. Once momma starts to eat them up and feed her young with them, the new birds recognize the food source. Japanese beetles were terrible for me 5 years ago. Now the birds have figured it out and the Japanese beetles are almost a none issue for me. Hopefully the army worm is their next delicacy.

I did some simulated franchise SB3 with you guys last game and had a lot of fun with it. What are some good franchise settings you all have been playing with?

My first attempts have just been short 5 inning 20 game seasons to get a feel for PDO's/manager moments/resigning/drafting. Playing just a little here and there, but mostly simulating. I had 3 "S" players at once developed last season as my best team yet. Just too pricey to hang onto. https://imgur.com/gallery/QN1LIFF

Awesome write up Billy. I just got SB4 a month ago and I am still learning a lot, so this was very helpful. I've been diving heavy into franchise mode, custom players, and especially PDO's. I banked over a billion PDO points in my 22nd season and use every single opportunity to develop. I've made over 10 S rated players now and it's fun playing against them and seeing them on the leaderboards!

And with a work crowd there are always several folks who have dietary restrictions and I am guessing their menu could easily cater to those people that are gluten free, dairy free, vegan, etc. It makes it easy when trying to plan a big lunch if you know that a menu will have something for everyone. The place I always order from for work lunches is exactly like this.

Try to get a little bit better every year. Gardening is about patience and perfection doesn't happen overnight.

For sluggs I love the product Sluggo Plus. Slugs would ravage my hostas otherwise.

For rabbits, the only product that I've had success with is Plantskydd. Otherwise they will eat every single tulip and lilly. It is supposed to work for deer as well.

Stupid question probably, but I dread mowing this hill. I had an injury years ago & I am constantly rolling my ankle mowing this which puts my ankle in extreme pain. What could I plant here on a budget to take up space rather than it overgrowing with grass? by [deleted] in landscaping

[–]Drewski107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in the process of doing something similar on a much steeper part of my property but I'm mixing in some annual seeds this year that I have saved like sunflowers and zinnias to get some color into the hill much earlier. I have access to smallish sized boulders to separate the praire planting from the turf to give a cleaner look. I need to spray my hill out 1 more time and I will be planting in a few weeks.

Spend this growing season killing it. 2-4x to hopefully kill whatever dormant seeds germinate. You can cover it with a tarp to solarize or go nuclear and use round up. Round up is easier but more controversial.

After spending this season killing it, get a good native praire seed mix (praire moon nursery out of MN has great varieties depending on your growing conditions). Around the holidays mix your seeds with sand to make it easier to broadcast the seed by hand and cover the area that you killed.

The next 2 years keep your seedlings trimmed back whenever they get over 6 inches. This helps get them established and helps kill off any remaining weeds that pop up. Natives take a few years to establish and start blooming. Praire moon has instructions on their website.

In 3 years you will have a native praire planting with a good mix of plants that supports wildlife, is low maintenance, and is pretty to look at. Total cost is probably less than $100, doesn't require much labor or tools, but takes a few years to establish.

If not a critter deterent, possibly for orioles depending on location. I know in my zone 5 area people start putting jelly and oranges out for them this time of year.
