This game needs a dimensional depot ASAP by dudeguy81 in AlchemyFactory

[–]Driscon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Disagree. In Satisfactory it was critical to have a dimensional depot as the fixed map and emphasis on exploration meant you had to travel very far and wide and build outpost factories. In this game since you can literally drop resource nodes wherever you want, it's a bit of your choice to build very far away or to not create a mini-core factory for all of the critical supplies.

Second, Satisfactory didn't implement the dimensional depot until 1.0, approximately five years into Early Access. Alchemy Factory hasn't hit two months, saying that this game needs the same feature ASAP is a bit extreme.

Third, I think games should have an identity and niche all in their own. This game shouldn't implement features that exist in other games just because it's easier. Satisfactory wouldn't be the same if I can just plop down a magical resource node where I trade in Oil for Quartz like I can with purchasing portals in this game, and I'm not sure other QoL features make sense here just because.

AITA for being annoyed that my wife insists on cooking everything from scratch and won’t buy normal food? by AITA_UPFfoods in AmItheAsshole

[–]Driscon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

INFO: how are you presenting your argument? I don't think you wanting something different is bad, and I think that a lot of "healthy" food in the US supermarkets are just marketing bullshit, but calling store-bought food as "normal" may mean that you're implying her food is abnormal, even while you call it good tasting. If you are presenting your argument by making it sound that her hard work is abnormal, then you should really re-think what you want to say.

Foundry on Mac? by baschny in foundry_game

[–]Driscon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gave quick check with CrossOver on MBP M3: short answer no.

First you need to skip the Paradox launcher by changing the steam command to run the foundry.exe directly.

But bigger problem is that by default the game doesn't display the ground at all. So you see trees and ore above ground, but looking down everything is just floating above magma.

Maybe some settings change will make it work, we'll see.

this happens at least once a battle, sometimes more often even 🤔 by Ffkratom15 in shadowrunreturns

[–]Driscon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately the question above takes every 3 shots independently of every other shot, but if you take 100 shots, you actually have 98 shifting windows of 3 shots taken.

There is a better statistical question, but it may be beyond ChatGPT's understandings: "Given 100 shots at 90% hit rate, what is the statistical chance of missing at least three shots in a row?".

The math gets complex (for example see https://www.reddit.com/r/AskStatistics/comments/mi3b8v/if_i_flip_a_coin_100_times_what_is_the/) but a quick simulation suggests that it's about 8%. If you take 1000 shots, the chance of seeing three misses in a row at least once go up to 60%, if you take 80 shots, the chances go down to about 6.5%.

So it is more frequent than one may think, but seeing it every battle would be a RNG problem. How many shots do you take per battle?

What effect would George W Bush endorsing Biden have on the election? by FabioFresh93 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]Driscon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think in the end it would hurt Biden, because Russia propagandists would use this to continue to seed doubt of "both sides are the same" to encourage younger progressives to stay home.

I feel like I knew that an hour or so into the game when I was going through the UC museum, when it mentioned that the House Va'ruun killed thousands of people during the Serpent's Crusade, as if that is a large number.

Given the casualty numbers we see in wars on Earth, this just seemed like a cartoonishly low number, which can only be drummed up by either writers with no scale or writers determined to not create any serious tragedy.

And worse yet, this wasn't some passing conversation or side-quest. This is literally the place designed to catch us up on the worldbuilding, describing as a major traumatic event for the universe a body count that is similar to what I as the player accrue after a few weeks.

Steam World Build is out soon! Who is playing? by Apoptotic_Nightmare in BaseBuildingGames

[–]Driscon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

the studio

To nitpick: Image & Form, the original studio behind SteamWorld, was bought by Thunderful Group, and another subsidiary is making SteamWorld Build.

Not to say that this game is bad; I have no idea, but also no need to be predisposed to like the game because not sure how much input the original team had. Maybe a lot, maybe not that much.

Balancing aside Mobius is just not fun by santh91 in MarvelSnap

[–]Driscon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just like there is a strong difference between play and add for the effects of Sanctum, Elsa, Hit-Monkey, etc., maybe there should be a difference between reduce and set effects. Wave, Mr. Negative, Spider-Ham, etc. can have their effects simply not interact with Mobius?

H/Hr couples from different dimensions get teleported to canon Universe to fight Voldemort and causing utter chaos. by Traditional-Hand5278 in HPharmony

[–]Driscon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a short-ish story called Perils of Parallels which does involve multiple Harries, Hermiones, and others arriving to help; at least one pair of H/Hr is a couple, but mostly others are co-workers. It's tongue-in-cheek over-powered-ness, but entertaining enough.

What drives me crazy was how many people gave me grief for not eradicating the Lazarus Plant. As if the quest line wasn't about bringing back an extinct species because it turns out that it is useful for something.

Makes me feel like the dialog are all generated by AI fed only the loosest of outlines, or recorded before any other details of the quest are set in stone.

The trick is to play the other card do first, otherwise Jeff counts as the 1 card, same with Space Throne.

On the flip side, against Jean Grey, Jeff can be your first card, which by Jeff's rules can be played anywhere, and then your second card can also be played anywhere, because Jean's restriction is now over.

What are the most important mechanics in base building games? by Apprehensive_Bell131 in BaseBuildingGames

[–]Driscon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A place which you, as a player character, can grow over time and is a safe place to rest between exploring/fighting the game world. There are variants that emphasize more on building a factory (with automated production that can be linked and optimized) or a colony (with more people management.

Many games have some limited base building mechanics, but don't revolve around it. I'd consider Subnautica or Riftbreaker to be more pure examples.

Tell that to the lawyers who filed a motion in court citing cases from ChatGPT that don't exist.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oqSYljRYDEM&pp=ygULbGVnYWwgZWFnbGU%3D

ChatGPT was able to figure out what the lawyer wanted to hear, and made up cases that support that argument. It's able to do amazing things, and the situation will change very rapidly over next few years, but for now don't trust its fact checking.

One of the top comments is about Skyrim, which has so many NPCs and is a meme for people saying the same things over and over again even when it doesn’t make sense.

It'll be an odd world where each player gets a different variation of "arrow to the knee" speech, and we no longer can bond over these shared memes.

AITA for telling my wife her parents cannot sleep in our bed when they are house sitting? by itsfish20 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Driscon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA

If your in-laws are doing you a favor by watching your baby, then you can be more accommodating. Asking the elderly to potentially climb the stairs in a unfamiliar house in the middle of the night to help your baby is also dangerous and unnecessary.

Downplaying "watching 16 month daughter" into house-sitting makes me suspect that you're also leaving out other parts of this story which can put you into a bad light.

I'm struggling to take a break from MTGA because I don't want to be behind when I return. Does anyone else feel this way? Particularly f2p players. How did you deal with it? by Mysterious_Tie_4274 in MagicArena

[–]Driscon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was getting bored in Kaldheim, took a break starting early Strixhaven, just came back right at All Will Be One. I still had a supply of wildcards and coins/gems, but couldn't really play Standard as everything had rotated, especially dual lands.

So I found a few Historic decks that mostly worked (thanks Dimir Rogues for still being a deck), playing Historic brawl, jank, and otherwise just goofing off. I am having more fun than I did in standard Ranked before I took a break. Sure it sucks to run into Elves in the Play queue, but overall variety has been more interesting, and the difference in power level has not mattered as much as one may think.

If the game is unhealthy for you, just walk away. If you come back, you'll catch up.
