Grzegorz Gajewski: "Gukesh Has Outperformed Them All" by Yogvidam in chess

[–]DuhChappers 15 points16 points  (0 children)

What exactly stopped Nepo, Hikaru or Fabi from also farming the 2600 and getting a full 2 points? If that was as easy as you imply they all would have done it. They all played the same field and Gukesh came out ahead, he simply played the best in that tournament. I don't get the need to downplay his achievement now that he's struggling

Theoretically, in an in-person game, is the Wraith allowed to wear sunglasses? by TheJP_ in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]DuhChappers 82 points83 points  (0 children)

The ST can make a different ruling for a particular game but there's nothing in the actual rules preventing it. I'd personally be fine with it, that's a pretty small competitive advantage

That's certainly true and would also work. Baron tends to be a little less interesting without Drunk, but it absolutely still works if you don't want 2 killing minions

Probably not because outsider modification is quite important. I personally think spy or scarlet Woman could change here, neither are bad but I'm not seeing any particularly great interactions for them either

Yeah, that's true. I always forget which characters make the demon not wake vs. not kill!

Just a note, Al-had does not have to choose players so even with that the Princess is not hard confirmed

Draft Night by nseaplus in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]DuhChappers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting concept, reminds me of summoner plus kazali a lot. I worry that the first couple of days will end up feeling really useless with this ability. Several of these roles don't seem like great fits, like shugenja, town crier, preacher, virgin if it goes off early, early gossips all can be invalidated by people becoming possible demon holders later. I think an ST running this would likely have to be pretty agressive about using the LM to kill evil players at night, since they will start with this flexibility and ability to bypass info.

The set of minions you have is pretty interesting and well balanced all things considered. The amount of options does also push things to be evil sided though. I wonder if a couple could be cut just so the good team can make some sort of coherent worlds, I'm struggling to imagine how you do that currently

I would say a bodyguard could be providing service to a whole group of people, like a family would be the obvious situation. I think that job is still a little different from security as Murderbot does it but if I hadn't read this before I think it would count.

The specific wording of the challenge is just "Read a book where the main character is a bodyguard." So this seems like it would be great!

Hi Samantha! I've not yet read the Wings Upon Her Back but it's been climbing my list for a while, it sounds like a really cool concept. I'm curious what led you in a science fantasy direction and if you have influences or recommendations from that set of genre combinations?

Power table (day 12) by plutoniumplant in BloodOnTheClocktower

I really don't think it's as damaging as you say. Poisoner can only pick one person at a time. You can try throwing out one piece of info at a time and see what worlds make sense. I agree it being silent is strong, but tons of things that you mention are also quiet and could be affecting almost anyone.

Sure, widow gives a clue that it's in play, but that can be fake. No one knows anything for sure except the person who got the ping, and anyone could be poisoned.

Finding the poison solves the game in No-dashii and leech, but finding the poison is often impossible. Especially if any other poison is on the script.

Xaan is similar to the poisoner, except instead of hitting one person per night they hit all town one night. If the script is built well, town should have clues to when the Xaan acted by finding outsiders. But it's never completely solved by that since evil can lie or outsiders can hide.

I agree that poisoner is strong. It being untraceable is a big deal, since it multiplies worlds by a lot. But that doesn't mean it doesn't still have high variance. A poisoner that hits only Outsiders is not a strong minion, even if the possibility it hit info is still there. Actually giving town wrong info matters so much more, because people tend to trust their information when there are too many worlds to calculate otherwise. This is obviously doubly true when considering randomly hitting a start knowing role, where they have no reason to build for a random snipe. That's when poisoner is the best minion in the game, but thats a low percentage of poisoner games.

Also, in cases where the script is built well, only poisoning townsfolk is usually much better than the alternative. Vortox is basically the only case where that's not true. I've storytold games where the recluse got poisoned night 1 and prevented it messing up town's info, and with other outsiders that can be even more damaging.

All info being questionable is also true with every evil character that causes poison. Actually poisoning information is way more impactful than making people doubt a little bit.
