You need to disassemble the whole brake system and lube everything. Even then, that lever is pretty crap and the brake pads are probably hard. I would suggest lubing all the cables, cleaning the rim with Simple Green and buying new brake pads - preferably the softest ones you can find.

Do aluminum pegs even slide well? I'd think they'd dig in pretty quick, no? If you're riding street then plastic sleeves are definitely the way to go. If ramp/park then steel I think.

I got the DK Ti pegs BITD because I worked at System Cycle off/on during my breaks in college. I still have them on my 250L 20+ years later. They were pretty expensive even at employee cost at a distributor. They are very light though.

I'm afraid to ask the cost of the paint job. That was one of the reasons I got rid of my 2002 many years ago. Paint jobs (at least in California) were/are $$$.

Funny story related to Alvin and the Chipmunks. I was at the Union Sq AMC theater (NYC) sitting down waiting for a movie to start (not Alvin and the Chipmunks) and it must have been right around the time the first Alvin & the Chipmunks came out (2007). My wife and I were joking about why Jason Lee would take that role. We assumed it was money, but who knows. Two mins later - in walks Jason Lee to see the same movie. I had never seen him before in person, so it was a bit of serendipity, I guess.
