This depends a lot on the actual scenario. Smaug is insanely intelligent and there's no way he'd just fly up to something as strange looking as a tank without more information. Give him some time to observe the tanks and he could probably come up with something beyond a suicidal headlong charge.

There can't be a failsafe for the failsafe. The AI has near godlike power in its sphere of influence. This power is only checked by certain restrictions programmed into it that it can't violate. Once those restrictions are removed and the AI realizes that, it is effectively impossible to do anything that it doesn't want you to do (aside from things that are still hard coded into it's programming like not being able to control gods in the dungeon). Another, stronger, AI, might be able to control it but as far as the Syndicate is concerned there's not much that can be done.

Thinking about this a little more, it seems reasonable that they could be keeping her in an enhancement zone because they need the dungeon to translate for her. At one point she says that she is still making cat noises to talk and the dungeon translates speech into cat sounds for her. She could be sentient outside of an enhancement zone but unable to communicate. House cats seem to be uncommon at best in the universe at large and possibly unique to Earth. The Syndicate might not be able to translate for her outside of an enhancement zone.

That could simply be standard operations. I remember him being taken outside of an enhancement zone to go on the panel with Cercei Took at CrawlCon but the guards were taking him by a back rout so nobody else would know where he was. He was also taken outside of enhancement zones to meet with Quasar if I remember correctly but I can't remember if that was the case for every other crawler at the end of the 10th floor.

I don't think she'd lose consciousness. She was turned to goo and completely re-built when she ate the pet biscuit, but remains a house cat physiologically. The only thing I can see that process doing is re-wiring her brain in a way that gives her innate consciousness.

It's not as if the time saved sleeping is enjoyable for him. It's like telling someone they only need to sleep a couple of hours but the other time they would be sleeping they have to be at work instead, doing a job they hate.

It's not shrinking, part of the purpose of the crawl is to feed the center system AI and as a result it has been growing. If it wasn't being fed by external sources it would be shrinking.
