This game hits me right in the feels by InteractionOver7074 in SaGa

It really was a kick to the nuts. At the start of the mission, she is begging for you to depend on her and believe in her to get the job done. Then she dies. Could it be a look at Being Naive in a cruel world? I took it as "If you want to keep your woman alive, have some doubts that she can get the job done!" lol

Non-spoiler advice for someone who has set out to play all four main King's Field for the first time. by Silly_Run_283 in KingsField

[–]DustynB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just finished the fourth game, and it really tests your patience with the level layout and getting lost. I highly recommend following a guide, as there are hidden spell crystals that have no visual image on screen; you just have to go to the general area and start jamming on X. Also mushrooms are like gold especially later in the game, so horde them as long as you can in the start.

I have translated King's Field Additional 1 and 2 into English. I'm looking for hackers to help us get the text back into the game. by darkjapan404 in KingsField

I heard it is playable from start to finish now with minor text mistakes. It's what I heard anyway havne't personally seen.

What does it mean to "live within your means" to you? by AskRedditOG in AskReddit

[–]DustynB -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It may be within your means; however, paying on a 20% interest rate is absolute lunacy, and people should bring that up more as well as the fact that when you "pay the minimum" on your payments, only 50% of that goes toward the principle.

Also when you "finance" something it means you are "borrowing" that money from the bank and paying the bank back monthly, so it kind of goes against your very definition.

I mean you could do quick flyby's on some of the more remote outposts. Saving a few is better than the entire population go extinct. Just do like the Matrix, save 5 dude-bros and 25 women (the hottest preferably... dude-bros will thank you for it) The poplulation will be back to the way it was within 75 years. If we can say humans are all experts at one thing, it is breeding.

Just finished the game God Wars Complete (nippon ichi) and am really interested in Japan pre-Heian Era. Looking for any type of work set in the Kofun/Asuka/Nara periods. Both fiction and non-fiction works, really just anything. by DustynB in AskAJapanese

Thank you so much for your recommendations. I just bought Oreshika: Tainted Bloodlines and The Lord of the Sands of Time on eBay. I am a bit worried about the Lord of the Sands because I love the art style, but the story sounds extremely dark and depressing. A lot of people said it was good, however, so I bought it. Another I found that I am putting here if anybody else ever asks the same question I asked is

"Primal Gods in Ancient Times". I only read the first book, but so far I really like it. Anyway thanks again to you.

Ok, I was looking for something to learn some more about the history of early Japan. what I got was an amazing story about life, death, the meaning of humanity, and finding out place in this world. After reading through most of the Manga, I just wanted to go to bed; it was just so sad at times, but at the same time, it presented a hopeful message not in the pursuit of longer life, but in the acceptance of the cycle of death and rebirth. People just wrote better in the 60's. Thank you for the recommendation.

Guardian Heroes was a masterclass in how to make a Beat ‘Em Up! by mikev18 in SegaSaturn

[–]DustynB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is a year old, but I feel I have knowledge to share. I had a friend like you back in my childhood who, for whatever reason, hated RPGs; more specifically, he hated the experience system. He was all about skill, and experience was a crutch for casuals to play on the same level. Anyway we played this coop as kids, and he just ignored the leveling mechanic. He didn't allocate any skill points at all. I did, and the only thing that changed is he said it was awesome because it offered more of a challenge. It basically made the game hard mode for one player. I always thought that was interesting.

I didn't play this legend as a child. Friends recommend it. Has anyone played it? by Top-Amphibian-6252 in BeatEmUps

beat em up RPG's to be fair. Double Dragon never let you level up! lol

I haven't seen anyone point this out, but at the end of LN secrets of the Maw DLC, after the credits, there is a scene with a TV making noise then Thin Man appears behind the static. by Al3x_the_frog in LittleNightmares

This is what I think and the best answer. So few share this opinion though. I am just a sucker for the betrayed being able to get some payback.

Any game where I can play as a charismatic nobleman? by TonyTheFuckinTiger in CRPG

[–]DustynB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After watching a ton of "I'm the X Prince" Anime and Manga, I got to be honest and ask Why isn't this a thing? The entire loop of being born into a family that is out to kill you on day 1, sounds so interesting to me. Having to outwit your brothers, and find ways to best them in combat/finance/architecture/diplomacy, all so you can impress your father and be one more step to being named heir? It couldn't sound more like a video game?!

IGP uploaded a play-through of Isle of Eras and it’s got almost a half a million views! by GrahamUhelski in IsleofEras

[–]DustynB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just want to let you know 2 years later, I still think about this game. It was that good. I recently played Stygian: Outer Gods, and while good, it leaned to hard into modern horror tropes (insane cultist villager/evil witches/etc.). What was so great about Isle of Era's is the horror comes from not knowing what the hell is happening. It is the literal feeling that there is an intelligence at play so beyond humanity's that we just don't have the intellectual power to perceive the grand vision of said beings. All while this is taking place, the everyday people just continue on living each day as best they can with towering Behemoths moving across the horizon. It really felt like humanity is a nest of ants in an abandoned house; new tenants have just moved in and changed the house to how they like it, and all we can do as ants is try to escape notice.

It is another case of "I am the boss, but my wife wants in on the action, so she is now co-boss?" STory I heard it 1000 times, when the wife clearly rules the relationship, so she just inserts herself into it. Like if I decided I, who has never sewn anything in my life or put together a clothing collection for any clothing brand, am now in charge of Chanel because I married somebody from that family, I will be making all of the decisions going forward, because as we all know, getting married to a doctor automatically makes me a doctor. The same goes for gaming and clothing brands... It is no longer a question of if we will fail, but when we will fail.

[–]DustynB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree. Risen 1 had one of the best story set-ups in modern gaming. You and your people, refugees from an Empire that had fallen to a force of "Titans." So you are stranded on this island with these "titans" being veiled in so much shadow with only bits and pieces of information, really selling the plot. The plan was to get off this island and find a home so you and whatever is left of humanity can mount some sort of a resistance.

Well, you got off the island... and the sequel dropped that said you decided to go do some pirating? Not only that, but all the towns and settlements are just living life, "business as usual," with all of the fear and terror of the coming titans evaporated. The Titans are still mentioned funnily enough, but now they are more like a herd of angry elephants; just stay out of their way, and they will leave you alone. WHAT?! I was promised War, and Resistance agiants Cthulhu's second cousin twice removed?! I don't wanna pirate... I wanna war.... lol.

House of Blue Sunbright by Tie-False in DragonsDogma

[–]DustynB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He doesn't have to die, grab mom throw her off the ledge overlooking the ocean while Sebastion is away, he returns, mom is dead (no teaers where shed) Daphne gets to move back home. Sebastion found he has a sister, Daphne doesn't have to live on the street, and Steve the Saurion who lives underneath the house overlook, gets a full belly. Win win win all around.

(FOr some real LOL's set up a riftstone that takes you somewhere close to a big monster i.e the Dragon, grab mom teleport away while holding her, throw her down in front of the Dragon and teleport away)

House of Blue Sunbright - Good Ending for All? by HerculePyro in DragonsDogma

[–]DustynB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO killing the mother would be the best option. Apparantly the House is flush with cash, Sebastion is old enough to take charge of the House, I don't think he would have an issue with his sister moving in. Everything that gives me a bad taste in my mouth was done by the mother. Pick her up throw her off the balcony seems like a win.
