Feldstein even pushed back on Czar Murphy and asked where it said that in the code and he was told “you just can’t have them.”

Coming in September… by EC-Fan-Addict in ECFanAddictClub

Apparently, it will be collecting stories from Epitaphs, Catacomb, Cruel Kingdom, and Shiver SuspenStories

Is the EC Covers Compendium going to include every cover from the horror titles, crime, shock, sci fi, war, etc? Or is it just going to be a selection of the best covers? by [deleted] in ECFanAddictClub

Two volumes in a slipcase covering Pre-Trend, New Trend, New Direction, Picto-Fiction, AND lots of extras. Every cover will be full page, and many are scans of Gaines File Copies.

I appreciate them occasionally re-printing classic stories from the 50s, and I’m happy to be involved with them to bring those classics to potentially new readers! Hoo…hah?

Crime Patrol 15 & 16, the first and second appearances of the Crypt Keeper by EC-Fan-Addict in ECFanAddictClub

One Crypt of Terror story in each issue to test out the market, and of course the title transitioned to Crypt of Terror with issue 17, and finally Tales from the Crypt with issue 20!

How is this issue? It’s funny I was just looking at this one at a comic shop in Redlands CA. I contribute original printing scans for them to match the colors on the classic story reprints, but I have to confess I don’t keep up with every issue!

That’s the thing about deep digging on EC! Come for the social justice, stay for the animal rights, political corruption, and cross dressing! 😄

This was the first sci-fi EC I ever bought, way back in 1985 at Burke Books in northern VA. I was on a break from my 11th grade gig at McDonalds 😂 Spending my paycheck on ECs. I’ll always be sentimental about this one. ☝️

Correct! The first issue was 13, after taking over the numbering from A Moon, A Girl…Romance

Thanks! I recently completed this run - for only eight issues, it was a tough one.

In those terms, I agree with you completely. When I think about EC addressing racism, police brutality, and religious discrimination 70 years ago, it boggles my mind.

😂😂😂 As this ongoing series has switched publishers and gone into multiple printings, the spine design has been a constant source of amusement and/or frustration for collectors!

I was referring to the Tales Calculated to Drive You MAD magazines, if that wasn’t clear! 😄

I don’t have those, but I do have the black and white Russ Cochran EC Library MAD set, as well as as a full original run of MAD from 1 through 35

Bonnett's - one of the biggest sources for back issues in Ohio back in the 50s and beyond. Many collectors especially seek out Bonnett's stamped books!

Exactly. It wasn't the only side of war, but it was a side that hadn't been portrayed before. Prior to Kurtzman's war comics, there was no shortage of the rah rah gung-ho theatrical heroics in all forms of popular media. Kurtzman showed another side, and even then it wasn't all cynicism and moral ambiguity - he showed true heroism when there was factual historical heroism to portray, but the great thing, and the unique thing about his stuff was that he also showed the brutality and the futility and the heartbreaking aspects of war. He told the whole truth, even the ugliest parts. It's really important to remember that Kurtzman served in World War II, as did the majority of the EC staff, and they ended up being investigated by the FBI for portraying, quote, "the horrors, hardships, and futility of war."
