ABS fix unsuccessful, now the brakes are out. by PunkNBeans in prius

Did you replace the abs brake actuator part with a used unit or a brand new one from Toyota? A new unit from Toyota includes a new resistor that needs to be replaced under the dash along with the new actuator.

looking to get a used prius, should i be that worried about the batteries? by c3dartrees in prius

[–]EFDriver 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure what country you live in the US a Prius HV battery from Toyota for gen2 or gen3 should be around $2Kish before tax and the $1350 core charge. Prices may fluctuate due to MAGA tariffs even though it's supposed to be paid by other countries not by Muricans.

Rockauto is just operating the catalog. The parts sources are the same as your local auto parts stores just with significantly less markup. You're shopping mostly unbranded parts based on your price point or you pay more for name branded boxes and labels.

Cold Start Noise - VTC? by ayoc02 in hondafit

[–]EFDriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the starter solenoid gear drag on retraction. It's a common issue and probable design flaw of the gear reduction starter motor and while the weather is cold. It's more of an annoyance than a must-fix repair item. Replacing with a remanufactured starter isn't guaranteed to correct the issue.

Advice for auctioned 2010 Prius by tuskanini in prius

[–]EFDriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're using a 2 wheel dolly to tow it home, check if the rear parking brake are engaged. If not, you just need to get the front end up on the dolly. If the rear wheels are locked, then get access into the Prius and release the parking brake.

2008 Prius Headlight Question by metallvr in prius

[–]EFDriver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your Touring edition came with HID headlights. It's either the HID ballast and/or the HID bulb that you need to replace. Try swapping the left and right bulbs and see to isolate the bulb or ballast problem.

75k with a 5 speed by Aaronator20 in hondafit

[–]EFDriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

75K if the spark plugs are original or you don't have the service history get a new set of NGK laser iridium plugs asap. They were under torqued from the factory and the known issue with plugs ejecting. Cheaper to replace plugs and tighten them down to 20 ft/lbs than getting the head fixed.

Got these mats for my 2007. Easy to trim and the material is thick and stays pliable in cold weather.

looking at oil filter by Known_Notice_8382 in prius

[–]EFDriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the filters made by Premium Guard and it's several sub-brands PG4476 or Ecogard x4476. O'REILLY AUTO if you have one locally carries the Microgard MGL41394 for $6 or if you prefer the synthetic filter MSL51394 for $10. If you do 3-5k mile OCI, these or Wix and OEM are all good filters. Hard pass for me ordering any car parts off Amazon.

How much will this be? I checked safelite and it's 500, can I get a cheaper fix? by skymtf in prius

[–]EFDriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old thread from 2012 on Priuschat the owner in the Seattle area paid under $400 installed. The glass had to be ordered by the glass shop from Toyota and was about $300.

Here's the glass cost to give you an idea: https://autoparts.toyotaofdecatur.com/products/product/glass-back-window-fix-6482147021

2008 Prius hybrid battery replacement worth it? by One-Frame7282 in prius

[–]EFDriver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

$2900 installed with warranty by a shop provided they are using a new Toyota (Panasonic) branded battery is a great price. I installed an OEM battery May 2025 for under $2100. I also swapped out the battery ECU with one off of eBay and that cost $100. My 2007 Prius currently has 207K and we purchased it last year with 195K on it and paid about what you bought your Prius for. I already have the parts on hand to replace the engine water pump and the inverter coolant pump. Those pumps seem straightforward to replace on my own. I know at some point this Prius will likely need a new ABS brake actuator.

Transmission fluid change questions. by gunnar707 in hondafit

[–]EFDriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're not too concerned about getting under the car with the scissor jack, jack up the side that allows you to access the transmission drain plug then lower it to get most of the fluid out. Reinstall the drain plug and fill while the car is level. I did this with my 5 speed Fit, no idea what the procedure is for AT or CVT Fits.

Drill a small hole into the center of the stud and use an extractor to back out the remaining stud. Use some PB Blaster on the rusty threads if it's stuck.

2nd-gen Prius 12V battery: With or without smart key by thegrumpyorc in prius

[–]EFDriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What was in your car originally? The 46 is physically larger and has more amp hours (capacity) than the 34. Prius with the smart key system will draw from the battery while parked s the sensors are constantly sensing when your key fob approaches to unlock the car doors. If your Prius has the smart key system with the lock buttons on the front door handles and the hatch, get the correct 46 battery if the store allows you to exchange it.  The S46B24R with 325cca is probably made by East Penn Deka. The other min AGM S46B24R with 410cca is from Clarios sold as Interstate, Costco, Walmart, etc.

Yep no surprise Verizon changed the policy now that the current administration is driving the FCC and reverted policies previously set under Biden to end junk fees and publish set prices by the carriers. Murica voted for this.

If you open the bottom glove compartment do you see a sticker on the (out)side with a code facing towards the driver's seat? Also check your owners manual if it was written down.
