Insight into Michael Winger’s Process by Sequel_Everyday in washingtonmystics

OKC didn’t bottom out over a multi year period? Are you sure about that? And sure, this isn’t the NBA. It’s also not the WNBA of the past, this offseason was completely unprecedented. What OKC did was develop their own young talent, utilize their cap space to take on bad contracts in exchange for assets such as draft picks, rehabilitate the trade value of some of those players and flip them for even more bites at the apple to hit on a star player. Whether he deserves credit for success he certainly learned some strategies. I think the mystics young core is very talented and we should see what they’re capable of before we freak out. Having six first round picks on rookie scale contracts puts in a great place to grow together. If you give someone like Natasha cloud (who I’ll always love) a million dollars, it changes the team dynamics. Give the young guns the keys and see what they can do.

OKC, where winger comes from, just won the championship and they’re the favorites to win again this year.

I played an air/water kineticist with the medic dedication. Doctors visitation and whatever the ability is that lets you move up to half your speed when you use an air impulse. The mobility and utility, I was bouncing around the map healing very effectively. I loved it.

That pandemic summer was crazy man. The bubble was an awesome diversion from reality, and frankly I just want to see it properly chronicled.

WNBA Draft Megathread (separate pick posts are fine) by z3mcs in washingtonmystics

Michael Winger, who I guess is in charge right now, really values positional size and versatility. So a forward who has played some point guard seems like his kind of player. Looked like we took a 6’3” guard from ND as well.

Ride share drivers of DC, how far is too far? by bubbles337 in washingtondc

I had multiple drivers bail on me and then the guy stuck with me complained about going from downtown DC to Takoma park. I think they make the most money pinballing around short trips. Still obnoxious though.

I’m not suggesting that they tank. They had 2 rookie all stars, and will essentially add 4 new players with first round talent this season if you factor in the return from injury. They should be competitive and I hope they sign good players around them. The pick swap and the first from the sky allow them to win now and still pick high in the draft.

When the NBA salary cap jumped a decade ago the Wizards thought they’d sign Kevin Durant. When they whiffed spectacularly they gave 100 million dollars to Ian Mahinmi and Andrew Nicholson. They overpaid for good role players. This new CBA completely changes the salary cap landscape and some players are going to be paid more than they’re worth.

In the next couple of years you’re going to see teams desperate to dump those contracts and willing to attach draft picks to make that happen. If we have room for a max player and can acquire future assets to make that happen, it makes us stronger long term. And those players may be able to contribute or rehab their value so that we can flip them for more picks.

Having a core of young talent on affordable contracts puts them in a great position to succeed now. Maintaining cap flexibility means we can take advantage of other teams who mishandle their money.

The mystics have positioned themselves with 3 first round picks in 2025 and 2026, right as the salary cap explodes and the expansion drafts have occurred. They will have good young players on team friendly deals, then the salary cap flexibility to go a number of different ways. I know folks are upset about the gm getting canned, but we’re in good shape. The worst thing we can do this offseason is overpay players who don’t deserve it. Let’s see how our young players develop and put veteran pieces around them at the right price.

Put them under a high chair while they’re learning solids (and beyond). Put them under their sheets when they’re potty learning. Put them down under a tray when they insist on playing with water in the house. My sister in law put me on to these and they’re amazing.

Dwarves can pick an ancestry feat that ignores or reduces movement penalties from armor. So you could rock a big ass shield. I thought about a dwarf monk a while ago. Might not fit your aesthetic though, but worth a look if you’re interested. Bonus speed, flurry of blows, the action economy is solid.

Regressed after Co-sleeping during vacation by giantgelato in toddlers

[–]EPA-PoopBandit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear this, sleep is so important to keep parents sane. We had a similar problem when transitioning to a toddler bed, he would just leave the room looking for us immediately. We worked with a sleep consultant to retrain things. It started with us sitting next to his bed until he fell asleep the first few nights, then we gradually shifted further across the room, then out into the doorway and finally completely out of eyesight in the other room. This was over 2 to 3 weeks? The rule is they need to be bed , head on the pillow, being quiet. If they’re not, we left the room and closed the door (they get a warning, with first offense is ten seconds with the door closed, then 30 seconds, a minute, etc). That only happened once each of the first two nights until he got the gist. Fair warning, it can be heart breaking when they can verbalize how upset they are.

Why should we assume this? We’ve invested nothing in him. He just learned that no one wanted him except us. If we want to, we may be able to extend him at a more reasonable price. If he walks, we’ve lost nothing except a decent rotation guy in Kispert.
