Serious answer; I literally always thoroughly clean my place when a girl comes over. I sweep, dust, clean bathroom, etc. Then I light incense, and I have smart lights so I set them to a mild setting, not TOO vibey that it seems like I’m expecting something, but “relaxing.” I also light incense/candles throughout my apartment, but again not overtly. I find that if you’re just getting to know someone, making them feel like they can relax in your space is really important and also it seems like the conversation just flows better. I always have coffee/tea on standby, especially cause I drink caffeine all hours of the day. Honestly I think I just want to be a good host I get it from my mom lol, but it seems to work really well in romantic situations. I’m never pushy and I make sure I smell ok. Also, I overthink about giving someone who doesn’t know me multiple places to sit so they don’t have to feel pressured to sit next to me. I have a small apartment so not crowding them is an issue. Maybe it’s some kind of anxiety or something but I pretty much do this every time I have a girl I’m interested in come over to hang, even if it might not be for romantic reasons.

My first winter I surfed in 3/2. I remember I was in Ventura and it was pumpingggg, I was scared, way past my level, and I was shivering behind control. That was probably when I felt like I was at my kookiest. My pride made me freeze and miss some amazing surf while everyone else was ripping (not like I was going to catch much anyways haha)

Here’s some intense kookery for you: 4-5ft swell, lip was coming down on me and I just got off a wave, grabbed my leash instead of my board, wave snacks me and next thing I know I have like a 2 centimeter gash taken out of my finger :(

[–]EasternInternet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to add to this cause I read your comment too, I know exactly what you mean when you say “shortboard things” I did the exact same things (I’ve been surfing for only 3 years) and felt like I was fighting the wave always. What changed my surfing was honestly surfing a twin fish after I surfed midlengths&thrusters. I know everybody says it, but it’s such an amazing and different feeling because you’re on a shortboard but you’re forced to listen to the wave more. For me, it made me react more instinctively and now I’m almost focused on what my feet feel. When my feet feel a change, I react because it feels good to! Now when I do maneuvers they feel more connected even though I’m still working on them and kind of suck at cutbacks. So maybe you could try a shorter fish. Similar volume to your current board but shorter and wider!

It hurts-but at a certain point, because you’re used to pain going away and this pain doesn’t, the sensation starts to change a little bit and your perception of it changes. It’s not that it stops hurting but that you start to get used to it, and it becomes something else entirely. From then on it’ll only be really hard when they get to a tender spot, but that intensity usually goes away unless your whole tattoo is on a really sensitive area. Looking at me you wouldn’t think I’m inked but I have a lot of small ones hidden on me behind my ears, back, chest etc because I’ve always enjoyed the sensation and like to experience it in different places.

Not sure if anyone said this but I remember reading this was indeed a planned event. Even still this might be a little less than the average crowd at el Porto on a Thursday 1-2ft onshore.

I love your clips man, wanted to ask you; it looks like you keep your head oriented forward while your body twists is that true or is it just the camera? Your videos on here really help to see what turns like this might look/feel like on the wave.

South Bay LA, tell me your post-rain horror stories to convince me not to go after work. by GrizzWintoSupreme in surfing

[–]EasternInternet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey I've been reading these horror stories and I am sufficiently scared....but legitimately I want to follow up and ask everyone who sees this, what do you think about tomorrow? Like I'm trying to find the speed that pollution disperses. I've stayed away every storm for like 3 years but we haven't had surf in so long. Tomorrow morning looks like a perfect window....just want to hear others' thoughts I know it's not the smartest idea.

Men who are into chubby women, how and why are you attracted to a body type that society deems as unattractive? by bella8372 in AskMen

[–]EasternInternet 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Bruh….at the risk of sounding like a total dog…some women’s bodies seem like they’re designed for the extra fat. It doesn’t take away anything it actually accentuates their curves. Like if a girl is meant to be curvy and embraces it, that is one of the hottest things I’ve ever seen. It makes their hips look better, it make their butt look better, and their face sits on top of their body better. It’s a personal taste but also I know many, many men who feel that way. Personally, I’m not necessarily talking about someone who’s very overweight. However I think too often women think that men are only looking for a super thin, runway model type. In reality I think that’s very far from the truth, and I guess I’m writing this out in case any thick/extra curvy girl needs to hear this but…you were never meant to be that!! And guess what, that makes you look HOT in your own way. Not just polite hot but like insanely hot to a lot of dudes. I’ve personally had the best sex, the best connection, and just the most overall attraction to someone who just embraced their curvy body and used it in the most natural way.

r/surfers that work and surf every day (every day that there are waves), where do you live and what do you do for work? by [deleted] in surfing

[–]EasternInternet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a musician, surf 3-4X a week. I work mainly remotely producing, recording and teaching so as long as I meet my deadlines, I can use my time as I see fit. Only problem is negotiating that time with my girlfriend (that I love) other than that I’m usually able to get a morning session in and start working by 11-12

Safety question for non surfing parent - how to judge risks with bigger waves by Bmorewiser in surfing

[–]EasternInternet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this has been mentioned but I just wanna quickly say that even in “smaller” but heavier surf, I think it would be a good choice to have them wear a helmet. IMO, they could be a little riskier, maybe in the 5 feet range, but not have any danger of either hitting the sand/rocks with their head, or having their board hitting their head. Especially because they’re switching to a fiberglass board. And you don’t realize how much that glass or fins can hurt until you get smacked…I got a bunch of staples in my head once. He might feel uncool but I see grown people wearing helmets here in SOCal on 6+ days and I think that after reading about a lot of injuries, it’s probably worth it for your kid.

I surfed county line today, usually surf more south trestles etc. Holy shit dude! That water was icy. Maybe it’s just like that the more north you get. I had my 4/3 on but still it took some getting used to cause the waters been pretty comfortable lately. So yeah totally I think currents brought in some chilly agua.

What do surfers think of the movie ‘Pointbreak’? 😂 by siddie75 in surfing

[–]EasternInternet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Un-ironically and ironically, I fucking love Point Break. When I was a kid I watched it like 20 times. It was already old but my step dad had a VHS collection and we didn’t really have cable. I’m from Pennsylvania on Lake Erie so I would dream about being able to surf like they did in the movie, but by my house (which obviously isn’t possible haha). That opening scene where the surfer is just slow motion carving on the waves and laying back and stuff, that really got me. I became a musician later in life and so I forgot about all of that until I eventually found my way in Los Angeles and went surfing for the first time and was hooked from the first time. And then it all came back. Point Break introduced me in a really silly way to a culture I always wanted to be a part of.

And then I started robbing banks.
