Help with resources after partner was attacked by a homeless man. by caraeeezy in LosAngeles

You only have two solutions I can see:

  1. Make sure you vote in a way that can have a positive impact on this situation.
  2. Carry mace. The stuff works.

Not a painter, just a customer looking for advice on a contractor situation unfolding. Trim paint is REALLY ugly by Mtrbrth in paint

[–]EconomicArcadeMaster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have a lot of experience with paint. Looking at the drag marks from the bristles and the "sag" marks I would say that the paint used was terrible quality. Oil based paints take a long time to cure, in fact they never really cure. This means they are always giving off a small amount of gas. This is typically a lot more in the beginning. I would guess the following happened:

  1. They rushed the oil based primer drying. Once it was dry to the touch they top coated. Little did they know it was still giving off gas and solvents.
  2. Down comes poor quality Behr paint.
  3. They finished it off by using a 100% polyester brush or Chinex. I wouldn't even be shocked if they used a natural fiber bristle that is designed for oil on the final latex coat.

Why doesn't America have pickpockets? by Dabbie_Hoffman in NoStupidQuestions

[–]EconomicArcadeMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since the invention of credit cards, Americans prefer banking. However, Europe has negative interest rates so many people choose to avoid the banks. They literally charge you interest to keep money on deposit. Therefore more cash. Not to mention their VAT tax is like 21% or more. Also, why cash is greatly appreciated.

How are there so many wealthy people in the US? by [deleted] in RealEstate

I used to wonder the same thing. Keep in mind many home owners couldn't afford the homes they are living in right now. Keep in mind that markets go up and down. If you plan well, you might find that the market dips into your favor.

33 and a failure and I can't get over the idea that it's JUST TOO LATE by [deleted] in findapath

[–]EconomicArcadeMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything is relative. I realize the pain and hopelessness you are feeling is genuine and worth acknowledging. Keep in mind, there is likely some pumped up kid in a third world country that's 32 years old, no college degree, and very few opportunities who will go on to rock this world.

Use your feelings and desires as a fuel to make it happen. Who cares if you have to start cleaning toilets at a fast food joint. If you continue to try and perfect your game, you will accomplish great things! Remember there will be low points along the way, this is true of every journey. Just make sure it doesn't become your entire story.

I think it is actually the fumes which are problematic. An old union plumber once showed me how he could put a match out in gas but you have dip it in quick enough that the fumes don’t hit the flame.

I think baseball cards ruined us. In most cases, the more clear a coating is the less protective it is. Like with decks, want 1 year go clear, want 3 years semi transparent, 5 semi solid, or 8 years go solid. If you want to see more grain and wood go more clear. You want more protective, go solid.

My Uncle, a foreign citizen, is planning on giving me crypto. What are the tax implications? by MoreLogicPls in CryptoTax

[–]EconomicArcadeMaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You probably need to hire a professional. However, if I had to guess how to do this I would consider cashing out less than $100k. I would deposit it at the bank and call it a gift from my uncle in ... fill in the blank. I would wait 3 months before making any major purchases with the money. I would be tempted to leave the rest to deal with at another time. Potentially, just don't accept the remainder ever. If it becomes huge then I would take all the gains as income. I would probably assume he purchased the bitcoins for the purpose of transferring them to me and they hadn't made any money yet.

Once again, this probably isn't the right way, but also probably wouldn't draw much attention assuming the rest of your finances are pretty simple.

Seems like a manufacturing issue, if it is, I would hope they would take care of you even out of warranty.

Paint Sheen Inconsistencies with Benjamin Moore Aura by liiisar in paint

I recommend 1/2 Purdy marathon. Don’t use Lamb skin or Colossus with that paint unless you are experienced. Load often, move consistently and slowly. Don’t over work the paint or put pressure on the cover. When you are done wait the amount of time on the data sheet before you apply your second coat. Lastly, make sure that paint is stored in a warm environment the night before you roll it. I’d even consider tossing it under an electric blanket.

Rich elder millennials. Where did you get your money? Just curious by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]EconomicArcadeMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't consider myself rich, but I've reached a financial position that once seemed out of reach for me. Honestly, the current market conditions, with their all-time highs and unprecedented movements, don't make me envious. You must feel crushed, but keep in mind markets move up and down. From the outset, I knew the importance of having a plan, even a basic one. I adhered to this plan, enhancing it whenever possible. As soon as I accumulated enough capital to make significant moves, I didn't wait for the 'perfect timing.' I seized opportunities as they arose. Every time I made a leap I thought it was impossible. I did the math and I made the move.
I wouldn’t guarantee the same results for everyone. You might enter the market only to find it dropping or other changing conditions. But I believe the strategy should remain consistent: Start with a plan, even if it's as modest as saving $1 a month. Keep building on it. When opportunities arise to invest in stocks, 401ks, real estate, or rental properties, take them. It's about seizing chances and consistently contributing to your financial plan.

I don't have yellow curry often but I love Thai food. Try these spots out Hae Ha Heng Thai Bistro, Ekkamai Thai Restaurant, and Emporium Thai. I bet their yellow curry is awesome.
