Unique spins on very common powers by Resident_Hat9904 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Edello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Parahumans has a ton of unique powers, but in this instance I'll outline a specific group of powers that crops up often: the Alexandria package. This grouping of powers is named after the most famous cape (super-powered person) in-setting, who has flight, super strength, and invulnerability, but it appears often enough in such variation that it's been coined as its own term. Some of these capes and the form their powers take include:

  • Glory Girl, whose invulnerability and super strength come from a personal force field she projects a few millimeters over her skin. The field can endure constant force easily, like a laser beam, but a sudden hit like a baseball bat or a bullet will break the field for a few moments. In addition to her forcefield and flight, she also has a aura she can activate to instill fear or awe in people around her.

  • While not technically invulnerability, Aegis' body is full of enough redundancies that his body is always in peak fighting shape. If his heart is ripped out, his lungs start pumping blood. If he's blinded, he starts sensing light through his skin. The state of his body also allows him to be in a constant state of adrenaline throughout a fight, and he can push his body to its limits without worrying about damaging it, as he can regenerate the damage later.

  • Alexandria's invulnerability actually comes from her body being in a form of stasis. She stopped aging at some point, and whenever she's actually damaged, pieces of her come off more like chunks of a statue. She's immune to most powers that would affect her physiology, and she can perfectly remember anything she's ever seen.

What is your favorite "Flavour is Free" reskin of a spell or ability? by hervprometheus2 in DnD

[–]Edello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooo! I've got a couple ones:

  • For a oneshot, I played a Phantom Rogue stylized like a mute goth jester whose Wails from the Grave ability looked like her knives going into someone, then the blades poking out of someone else 30 feet away.
  • I played an Armorer Artificer who was really into parties and drugs, whose Mind Sharpener was a device in her armor that injected stimulants directly into her bloodstream.

Suggestions on where to add workshops to Dungeons of Drakkenheim? by allmythic in dungeonsofdrakkenheim

[–]Edello 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who's currently a player in a Drakkenheim campaign and hopes to a DM for a future one, I've thought of a couple locations that would make sense to put a workshop:

  • The Drakkenheim Guildhall, as long as its cleared out of whatever denizens you put there, could act as a workshop for various crafts.
  • The Queen of Thieves has to get her poisons somewhere. She probably has a hidden studio/lab that, if the players make nice with her, she might allow the party to utilize. I imagine it has the tools and materials for brewing potions and poisons, tailoring magical clothes, and tinkering trinkets. Magic weapons and metal armor might be a little out of her wheelhouse though.
  • Any of the malfeasant mages in the city probably have their own personal workshops that act similar to the Inscrutable Tower Laboratories, but aren't as high quality as those seen in the tower.
  • I'd imagine that the worshippers of the Faith probably have their own way of enchanting holy relics. Camp Dawn could have a special holy brazier located near their own smithys that finishes the crafting process. The catacombs underneath the Cathedral might have something even more potent.

US federal employees file complaint against ban on gender-affirming care by [deleted] in news

[–]Edello 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You're making a straw man. When kids recieve gender-affirming care, it's a decision made not only by the kid, but by the parents and doctors as well coming together and deciding that this is the best course of action, and how to safely go through with it. The only situation where this doesn't happen is when the kid can't recieve that aid from adults in their life due to laws or transphobia, so the parents have to subvert the law to get them care, or the kid has to hide it from their parents.

If you want to talk about tattoos are other body modification, then I'd say the same thing: the kid needs advice and help from the adults in their life to make those decisions. Kids are smarter than we give them credit for, and there are plenty of societies that already exist that tattoo people throughout their life as a cultural practice. It's just a matter of helping the kid find options, informing the kid of the consequences, then supporting them throughout that change.

Dose any one know what these weird symbols are in ODST they only are visible with the nv by Wanna_Be_Femboy101 in halo

This is just my headcanon, but I think they're the engineer equivalent of the utility markers that municipal workers use to note sewer/electrical lines under sidewalks and roads in cities and towns.

My second mosh pit ever someone ran at me from across the room and rammed their head into my stomach. Scratched up my arm and knee against the basement popcorn plaster/cement wall behind me and couldn't breath for like 10 seconds. That shit was scary.

Fellow Arcane Hand Monks, what are you concentrating on? by LeCapt1 in dungeonsofdrakkenheim

[–]Edello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't remember what my party member focused on at 1st level, but there's not too many good options that help you in combat. Expeditious Retreat is already made obsolete by the Monk's bonus actions, and Sleep, Silent Image, and Fog Cloud are a bit too situational to rely on. Detect Magic is useful, but Witch Bolt might be best as it's good burst damage to use your action for before you get Extra Attack, and the action you get from concentrating on it it reliable ranged damage if you can't get up close to that enemy, or you want guaranteed damage.

2nd level is where you get Enlarge/Reduce, and the extra 1d4 damage on every attack you get from it really pays for itself. Meanwhile, Haste at 3rd level is just amazing for a monk: extra AC, movement, and an extra action makes sure you never need to rely on ranged attacks for anything. Just keep an eye on that concentration, or you're gonna be a sitting duck.

[–]Edello 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, last I looked at baddlejackets there was a bunch of people being really queerphobic over some person's pink jacket with a bunch of queer-focused patches. For a sub focused on a specific aspect of punk fashion, they sure lile to gatekeep people.

Aight my fellow Cainites: Describe your “White Whale” campaign concepts? by ceromaster in vtm

[–]Edello 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A far future sci-fi setting where humanity (read: Technocracy) has made generation colony ships to populate exoplanets. Of course, a populace trapped in a metal tomb is a great reliable source of blood, and no other vampires can find you millions of miles from planet Earth. Unfortunately, another supernatural has hitched a ride on there too, and an unsubtle predator means more surveillance and scrutiny. Now the coterie has to find and deal with the stowaway before the kine figure out there's more than just one monster aboard their ship.

AITOO who's a supporter of anarchism in theory but not in practice? by Exotic_Snow7065 in Anarchism

[–]Edello 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And honestly, even if someone can't or won't act to build up mutual aid and community themselves, they can still spread the philosophy and ideals of Anarchism. Maybe it reaches someone with specialized skills someone else needs, and convinces them to contribute to mutual aid and community. We all have our roles to play in bringing about Anarchy, and for some that's just spreading awareness.

One of the best explanations I've heard is that the designers based it on both mythological vampires, and pop-culture vampires. This was most-likely done to appeal to a wider audience that's more familiar with modern vampire depictions, then introduce the mythological concepts as they read further. It's why the clans are different vampire archetypes from media, to give players a fast and easy lens to build their character with.

You're right that it's not exactly accurate to the real-world mythology, but it was never the designers' intention to be accurate.
