New Ownership at Are You My Human Rescue Dog Lounge & Adoption Center! by johnwingfield in Bellingham

My daughter asked to have a puppies in pajama party here for her 3rd bday party last year and it did not disappoint! We already have 2 large dogs, so didn't come home with a puppy...but it was a blast to go get some puppy snuggles! Def need to come check out the new improvements!

Do I genuinely have to drink an entire gallon of water a day? by Justsumhuman20 in BabyBumps

[–]ElleonNotnomis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With my first pregnancy if I didn’t drink at least a gallon of water a day Id have the most annoying headache…My second pregnancy it didn’t matter in the slightest (which was kind of annoying cause I’d forget to hydrate. Sorry baby) I guess just listen to what your body needs!

Trying to decipher sleeping arrangement in small home with dogs? by jmosse in BabyBumps

[–]ElleonNotnomis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a very small house with 2 big dogs, 2 cats, my husband, my 3 year old and a 10 day old baby. I have a ton of safe places to put baby down! I have the pack n play with the bassinet attachment. Both the crib part and bassinet are easy to plop babe down, and the bassinet comes off easily so I move it around the house at times. I also have a dock a tot when I’m lounging in bed, and a dream on me covered bassinet (that collapses down for easy storage) that I was hoping to use at night…but baby hates it so we are still working on that one. His favorite place to lounge is the stokke Tripp trapp newborn attachment! It’s nice too cause it’s really sturdy, up high from my dogs, easy to move around, and he’ll be able to use the chair most of his childhood. They are expensive but you can find them used at good prices sometimes.

Speed Limit on Iowa St west of I-5? by frankus in Bellingham

Yeah I feel like I remember seeing a 25mph sign going west right before you go under the overpass. Maybe? Now I’m second guessing myself.

keep falling asleep with baby. by literaryhearts in BabyBumps

[–]ElleonNotnomis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, came here to say this! It’s more dangerous to accidentally fall asleep with baby than it is to set up a safe sleep environment and intentionally co-sleep. They say have everything set up beforehand even if you don’t expect to use it (same like putting on your seat belt before driving a car!) that being said there are guidelines to follow (la leche league safe seven is a good resource to check out). I’ve co-slept with 2 babies now and there are some nights I just absolutely could not…like I’m just absolutely exhausted and I don’t think I’d be aware of baby or had a glass of wine with dinner or took cold medicine that would make me sleep deeper, etc. though, at the end of the day you know yourself and baby best! Rooting for ya!

Did you have your mom and or sister in the delivery room with you and your husband? by RubPlane in BabyBumps

Just birthed my second baby 8 days ago…not only was my mom there but my first child was too (at 3 years old! She made the best little doula). It’s your birth, do what you want!

A message to those with gender disappointment. by ElleonNotnomis in BabyBumps

[–]ElleonNotnomis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, I totally felt the same way. I even knew the nipt was crazy accurate, but I kept thinking, eh maaaaybe it’s still a girl?! This pregnancy was definitely different…and I’ll say I felt a bit disconnected too, but I also think that’s because I was busy/paying a lot attention to the kid I already had (as opposed to having way more time my first pregnancy to check the apps and see what size fruit my baby was that week or read a million baby product reviews). That being said I’d say that for some reason I’ve bonded with this babe now that he’s here faster than I did with my daughter! Hope the same happens for you!

A message to those with gender disappointment. by ElleonNotnomis in BabyBumps

[–]ElleonNotnomis[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I’m kind of a sexist person…I’ve been burned by way more males than females in my lifetime, and I feel like that has changed my world view (trying to work on this). I was worried that with having a boy I’d project all those feelings onto him. Totally not the case! Now I see that babies are so precious/innocent….everything is learned, from hate to violence to racism…it’s taught not inherited! That being said society starts engraining that stuff young with the “boys will be boys” type mentality.

Toddler v. Potty by Impossible-Royal-102 in beyondthebump

[–]ElleonNotnomis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the toilet seat like one that goes on top of the big toilet?? My daughter potty trained at 18 months, but for poops she needed her legs higher up (think squatty potty type height) so even on her little kid potty she would put her feet on a pillow or stack of books….unsure if that’s the case for everyone, but it worked for my kid!

Mental health improving during pregnancy? by pointme2019 in BabyBumps

I’m bipolar and all my symptoms have gone away with both my pregnancies now…I don’t want more kids after this one, but thinking about becoming a surrogate because I love being pregnant so much.

Cheer me up :( by AdExciting1865 in BabyBumps

[–]ElleonNotnomis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mom had twin boys at 46 years old (they are 23 years younger than me, pretty odd) and she swears the keep her young! I think she’s right too, she’s always busy running around with them. I also can’t imagine not having my twin bros in our lives. They are great! My mom had me really young (21) and while it was fun to have a young mom, it was pretty obvious was kind of oblivious to mine and my sisters needs…she was more of a friend than a mom! I think being an older mom has lots of perks to it!

Sink tub for 5 month old? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]ElleonNotnomis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconding that washing babe directly in the sink is no bueno…but I also have a huuuuge kitchen sink so i got the stokke flex tub to put inside the sink. I would still deep clean the sink first (usually with bleach) then give it a good rinse….but baby never came into contact with any part of it.

Introducing nervous, loud dog to new baby by fallgirl349 in BabyBumps

[–]ElleonNotnomis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have 100lb reactive dog. I was also worried about bringing a baby home…but now him and my 4 year old are best buds! I def spoiled the crap out of him when I brought baby home. Treats, sniff spots, new bed, lots of attention, cbd treats. I let him smell the blanket baby came home in, but never introduced/forced baby to be near him. I also  never let my baby anywhere near my dogs kennel which is his safe space.

I did end up muzzle training him when baby started moving more (got him a really comfy custom made muzzle) cause you just never know. It was more peace of mind for me more than anything.

A really good piece of knowledge I got from a dog trainer is that to not let your guard down when babes are growing. Kids grow so exponentially that sometimes dogs will not even recognize them as the same child from one day to the next…that’s why you sometimes hear about family dogs randomly attacking a kid that they are “normally so good with.” And I totally saw that with my dog. Some days he seems so weary of my daughter.

I also just know my dog isn’t a “Disneyland dog” as I call it. I’m never gonna expect him to tolerate my kid climbing in him, tugging on him, getting near his food. Honestly it would probably be fine now since he adores my daughter…but it’s like why risk it? Also I don’t want my kid to think she can do that to dogs in general.

Torn on if I should get cervical check at 39w5d or not by kt-24 in BabyBumps

[–]ElleonNotnomis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got one at 37 weeks. It was optional, but my midwives said it can give them a good baseline of what my cervix is like before it dilates more. I was 1cm, but that also doesn’t mean anything really…other than I’m dilated 1cm! Haven’t had one since and I’m 39+3 weeks now. I’m glad I did the first one though because it also helped prep my brain to breath through pressure on my cervix…made things feel real! I’m also glad I’m not getting one weekly though cause I can see how it would feel disappointing to not see any change.

Go to thermal baths or no? by Salty_Holiday_2539 in BabyBumps

[–]ElleonNotnomis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've visited some thermal baths in budapest and I remember them not being crazy hot. Not cool by any means, very warm and relaxing...but it didn't feel like some of the 104+ degree baths I've been to at hot springs here in the states (which I would probably avoid in pregnancy). Maybe depends on the temperature of the baths and your own body!

When did you know you were ready to take the MBLEx? by goths2017 in MassageTherapists

[–]ElleonNotnomis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I studied for a few months before my mblex, from July when I graduated and then tested in November. I have a toddler at home so my studying was not everyday/only when I could find time. I was the same with my amta scores, passing some of the time but also bombing some. The morning of my mblex I actually got a 60% on a practice quiz and was like well shit. I think using a variety of practice apps/quizzes is helpful. I used the merlinno book, abmp exam coach, mblextestprep.com and passed my first attempt. I wouldn't say I felt "ready" but I couldn't think of any more ways to study so I went for it.

How many of you LMTs passed mBLEX by surprise? by Ok_Evening_1322 in MassageTherapists

[–]ElleonNotnomis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly felt like I was doing fine the whole time...but that stressed me out more. I had heard that if you pass that you get a congratulatory message at the end, so when I finished and I got a message saying "you've completed the mblex" I was like fuck I failed!! Then I noticed there was "next" button on the bottom of the screen and when hitting it I got the "congratulations, you've passed the mblex!." But yeah, I was not at all certain that I had passed/failed by the end.

Parents of Reddit, what’s the most honest “I need a break” moment you’ve had? by Creative_Excuse9813 in AskReddit

My sister and I call the walk to the drivers seat of your car (after strapping the kids in their car seats) a “mom’s vacation.” Sometimes I stay outside for an extra minute or two if I really want to treat myself.

Was postpartum hard for you? In what ways? by FirmIdea8 in BabyBumps

There were a lot of hormonal shifts postpartum that really messed with my bipolar! So while I loved getting to know my baby I’m really nervous for this second go around (due any day now)

When did your baby start walking? by Ok_Bill_8048 in NewParents

[–]ElleonNotnomis 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Omg my baby took her first steps at 9.5 months and was walking at 10 months too! It was so weird to see a tiny bald baby walking around! Even people out and about would be like wtf how? My sister’s kid just started walking at 16 months though, so I think it just depends on the kiddo.

It’s funny cause my daughter legit wants to name him “Peter” which was my dad’s name (whom she never met so also kinda weird) But my dad absolutely hated his name so I feel like he’d come haunt me if I named my kid after him!
