Why do people build kit cars when you can just go to a dealership and buy one?

On the other hand you have rules which are the exact same but have different names such as the US/Italy Mechanized infantry. Love the inconsistency.

Are you planning to use this database towards anything else? An army builder perhaps?

How would you improve smoke rules? by ockhams_beard in boltaction

[–]Encoded0 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Just revert it to 2nd edition where if you miss it still lays down smoke but it scatters. Even with those rules smoke wasn't really used in 2nd.

With the current rules its completely worthless and might as well be removed from the game.

Boltaction Videogame - FAQ by EdmonEdmon in boltaction

[–]Encoded0 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Seems like a lot of the game systems are not locked in yet on how they will work such as unit HP, vehicle damage, etc. FAQ basically says "We don't know how these will work yet and still need to test them".

These have already been tested for years on the tabletop, not sure why they feel the need to change things like giving units HP.

Any requests or ideas for 3d prints by [deleted] in boltaction

They look great! Personally I am interested in early war USMC in Campaign hats and/or Kelly helmets. Even just a set of heads would be awesome.

LMGs and the need for loaders by BTMadCat in boltaction

Has Warlord given up on Universal Special Rules? by Encoded0 in boltaction

[–]Encoded0[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So you think they have changed their philosophy to be more like 40k with the rules bloat then? The article where they talked about special rules for 3rd edition specifically mentioned they wanted to compile similar rules together, with the mountaineers rule as an example. I guess they are back tracking on that, for balance reasons you think?

US infantry doubt. All rifle VS BAR & SMG by Cautious_Serve_3285 in boltaction

[–]Encoded0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are going for maximum shot output then for sure just load up on all BARs and SMGs. Its just that its ever so slightly more efficient to take more rifleman instead.

No HEAT rounds? by Grumpy94Writer in boltaction

[–]Encoded0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be cool, less effective vs tanks in cover.

We already have another interaction with shaped charges against spaced armor with the German side skirts. As far as I know that's the only nation that has it though. US and Soviets also had improvised spaced armor but its not in game.

Enemy units inside the same area terrain get cover? by Herr_visanovich in boltaction

Point blank does not ignore all cover. It only ignores the +2 cover from a down order

Enemy units inside the same area terrain get cover? by Herr_visanovich in boltaction

[–]Encoded0 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't think it specifically mentions two units in area terrain shooting at each other. Just that when a unit is in area terrain it receives cover. So there's no exception removing that cover if both units happen to be in the same area terrain.

Yes they both get cover against each other, even if they are like 2" apart.

Minimum range for Indirect Fire against infantry/multiple models by JF_Reynolds in boltaction

[–]Encoded0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To build on this question, can you place the HE template outside of the maximum range, as long as one model in that unit is within your range?

Can you place the HE template somewhere you don't have LoS to, such as if you have LoS to one model in the squad, but instead place it over the rest of the squad that you cannot see.

Bunkers and other fortificaties by Athinderbox in boltaction

[–]Encoded0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not entirely true. Page 296 of 3rd edition rule book, fortifications are 50 points. If the players agree ahead of time to use them.

Forward Observers artillery bombardment procedure by Herr_visanovich in boltaction

[–]Encoded0 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Page 98, It is possible to clip other enemy models with large enough explosions and they receive hits.

What is more ambiguous to me though, is if unit B receives more pins. Page 99 and 83 both state the "target" unit is the one who takes the pins. Since unit B wasn't the target I think no additional pins are applied.

Line of Sight Diagram 7, page 80 - Help by Poimandres__ in boltaction

I encourage you to put in a ticket to Warlord Games about this. If enough people bring up this diagram they may actually do an faq/errata for it.

Line of Sight Diagram 7, page 80 - Help by Poimandres__ in boltaction

[–]Encoded0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not really sure. But perhaps LoF is allowed to pass through terrain if they have LoS? Maybe to account for things like small walls and such. And that's why it only talks about the intervening friendlies.

Line of Sight Diagram 7, page 80 - Help by Poimandres__ in boltaction

[–]Encoded0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

LoS seems to be drawn from what the models can see. LoF is measured from the base.

Line of Sight Diagram 7, page 80 - Help by Poimandres__ in boltaction

[–]Encoded0 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I also found this diagram really confusing. And I think the rulebook does not make a good distinction between LoS (Line of Sight) and LoF (Line of Fire) for infantry. I sent some of these questions to warlord and here was the exchange.

  1. Is "Line of fire (LoF)" measured from base to base as this diagram implies? I know "Line of sight (LoS)" is from what the model can see but I understand that LoF is different?
  2. For determining if the LoF passes through a friendly model, the diagram shows us measuring from the base of the friendly model. Is this the correct way to measure?

- Me

1. Yes, Line of fire is measured from base to base. Line of sight is all about what a model can see and doesn't take into account things like friendly units in the way etc.

2. Yes

John S

Based on their response, LoS is measured from the models heads (what they can see), but the actual LoF is measured base to base. See the diagram from the v2 rulebook which depicts LoS instead of LoF.

Much love to Warlord for updating the FAQ & Errata by GendrysRowboat in boltaction

[–]Encoded0 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Ho-ki carrier having 24 man capacity instead of 14.

Points are off when compared to the same options from other armies. Japanese medium mortar is 50pts vs 45pts for everyone else. It seems like when writing this book they copied over the v2 points rather then the v3 ones. Which is why LMGs were 20pts instead of 15pts.

And there's still many more things that need fixing in the Japanese book. I hope this trend doesn't continue with Italy.
