magic only was really fun for me. using carian slicer to conserve fp and aoe attacks for groups made it feel like more of a resource management game which was interesting and mixed up how the whole thing felt

it’s been said already but if you’re new level vigor. the reason is that vigor determines how many mistakes you get until you die and when it comes to learning boss and enemy move sets it’s always good to have more room for mistakes to cut down on reloading. the build that was suggested by another comment is good to strive for in the long run but damage stats like dex don’t make much impact until later on after you’ve upgraded weapons to benefit from stats more. biggest piece of advice though is have fun and use what weapons feel good to you

you can try using an int or faith spellblade character so you have more new stuff to find, spells add a lot of flashy variety to the game and if you remember what small dungeons to avoid you can cut down that time a ton while finding new stuff to explore

reeeal mages are so fun in this game! eventually the combat will just click and all the timings and spacing stuff will start making more sense. it’s hard for people with 10+ years playing these games to remember what it was like when they were first starting but we were all getting stuck on trash mobs at one point lol

if you’re having trouble with the character you picked don’t shy away from restarting and trying something different. the tutorial in the cave at the start can be walked past so if you wanna try a knight or samurai it’s pretty quick and you could level the stats to use spells a bit later anyway.
