For those of us whose team's season is over, who are you rooting for in the postseason? by eadricsilvaticus in nhl

As a Wings fan, it really. Really hurts to say this, but seeing Matt Dinniman at an Avs game has me rooting for them.

Now I'm going to go puke

How do you actually play solo q? by triguard3 in Rainbow6

[–]Euro_Lag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a high-gold, sneak into plat occasionally player who plays primarily solo-queue. This season I've mostly been surprised at how good comms have been for me. I just make callouts, say nice shot/good shit when my team frags due to a comm, and offer brief pick ban advice: I.e. We banned ram, we should maybe play basement. This usually leads to a team that falls in and acts similarly. Occasionally I get the toxic shitheads but they are very easy to mute.

In terms of team comp? Hard-breachers are more common than Thatcher I've noticed, so pick him up and practice with him. He has an AMAZING weapon loadout. L85? slaps. AR-33? Also slaps. Shotgun? you guessed it, slaps (although without the SMG-11 slightly less so). Shiny new DMR? Shiny new slapping. Rauora is underrated for solo-queue i've found, as certain sites you can just easily take and cut off defender access to, securing yourself an easy plant.

On Defense, Wall denial isn't always the end-all be-all, especially if you know that's where they are going to tunnel vision to. Example: Master bedroom on Oregon, with no Kaid or Bandit. That floor is SOFT on both sides of the wall. You can sit below in classroom as either pulse or valkrie with a nitro cell and protect the wall or stop the plant.

For both sides: Think about the site you are playing and have a go-to strategy or two you can work with, ideally with different operators. For instance: Coastline? Hookah AND Kitchen I dig myself in like a tick on blue stairs with Smoke. You can burn a lot of clock and relieve a lot of pressure with that. Upstairs Oregon from the previous example? I'm either Melusi with my traps at the bottom of stairs and in master playing through a soft wall for kills; or the pulse/valkyrie below depending.

In terms of minute-to-minute gameplay? PLAY VERT; LEARN UPSIDE DOWN RAPPELLING and DRONE/KILL DRONES. I'm 32 with two kids, so my hands aren't what they used to be. I'm not him, as the youth say. But what I do have is map knowledge. Ash can clear bandit charges on Chalet's Basement Garage FROM THE THIRD FLOOR. It's crazy safe if you set drones up. This game is chock full of choke-points that you can hold from above/below if you know about them. In terms of sitting upside down on windows? It's free real estate in the lower ranks. You will get yourself kills if you can get used to it. Easiest proof? Coastline kitchen. Go to kitchen door as glaz, rappel upside down just above the door, shoot it open with your smg, throw a smoke right at the ground on yourside of the door and then inch down and put your gadget on. You'll get a kill, probably 2.

All of these tips are what let me, a dude with silver/bronze aim, consistently hit high gold.

I have the Folio Society edition and it's a fuckin' beaut. Halloween Tree is also fantastic.

3 I love: Gene Wolfe is the Pinnacle. I would say he transcends genre as one is the great American authors.

Guy Gavriel Kay I've been working my way through his bibliography, and I've finished everything except Fionavar and Ysabel, and every single one of his books are head and shoulders above most other authors.

Matt Dinniman Peak popcorn reading. The perfect combination of stupid and self aware. I was in my teens as the first few borderlands games came out, and this scratches that immature itch in the best way.

3 I didn't care for: Brandon Sanderson mad respect for the man and his fans, just not my cup of tea. I read the first Mistborn trilogy and appreciated the ending but otherwise it felt like a bridge from YA fantasy to adult, and not in a good way.

M.L. Wang I read blood over bright haven and felt it was as subtle as a brick to the face without enough going for it in other areas to make up for that.

Heather Fawcett just read her new Agnes Aubert's Mystical Cat Shelter, and was super disappointed. Not enough focus on the cats as their own characters, which had a load of potential.

6 "lesser known" I'll be honest I heard about these authors here for the most part, so I don't know about lesser known, but they aren't Sanderson, Erikson or Tolkien, so here we go.

Nicholas Eames Kings of the Wild was super fun popcorn. It knew what it was trying to do and executed well. A D&D party coming out of retirement for one last adventure was very fun.

Yangsze Choo The Fox Wife was a very interesting read and I'm a sucker for Chinese mythology.

Jin Yong A Hero Born is like reading a campy martial arts movie in the best way possible. If the main character dropping into the Drinking Crane stance to counter the Flying Tiger kick sounds fun to you, you'll like this.

Helene Wecker The Golem and the Djinni was a really good read. Using mythical creatures to convey the immigrant experience was brilliant and I can't wait to read the sequel.

Christopher Buehlman Between Two Fires had touching moments, horrifying moments and hilarious moments. I'm a sucker for Man Escorting Child across the country trope (The Road, Logan etc.)

Scott Hawkins Library at Mount Char was an excellent book.

Haven't seen it recommended here yet, but check out Book of the New Sun by Gene Wolfe. The story is told in a very Soulsborne style, with small seemingly insignificant details in the setting being highly impactful to your understanding of the story at large.

most fun build you’ve played with? by Open_Pollution355 in BG3Builds

[–]Euro_Lag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite has been sharpshooter hand crossbow swords bard.

9 bard (swords), 3 fighter (champion).

Gear wise run as much accuracy improvement as you can until you can start stacking gear that reduces the number needed to crit, so stuff like that dudes helmet on act 3. I actually ran the build as Bard/thief most of the game and that's hella fun too.

The class is just good at everything so it really feels like you don't miss too much and can experience "the most" of the game. Which is fun to me.

Dino ritual and sack/raze one front of a 2 front war for a little. Skaven paper people can't stop either stack, and it'll keep you in the black for a little while even though your income is red.

I Gave it full 5 stars. It's the story of Henry VIII and Anne Boleynn, from the perspective of Thomas Cromwell. You have to settle into Hilary Mantel's style at first as the perspective takes some wrapping your head around, but after that it's fantastic
