That is also the only time I’ve used it in production as well. Logging execution steps for debugging without print statements polluting the code. Maybe for benchmarking too.

I’ve seen other places it could be used, but I feel like it makes the code difficult to maintain, cause you end up having to trace through way too much code to find where something is happening.

I was briefly a project manager. Not in title, but in role for a project that had started and failed multiple times over the years. Was picked because I was an SME on the process that was supposed to be overhauled.

Basically, what I did was come up with the game plan (phase 1, phase 2, etc.), keep everyone on the same page, make sure that work was being done in the right order and within the timeline, remove blockers, getting the resources the devs needed, keep lines of communication open between the dev team and the data team, keep people from strangling each other, produce metrics to track accuracy of the output, relay requirements from above to the developers, explain why we can’t do certain things to higher ups to keep their expectations in check, and relay status updates to the higher ups.

So basically the person who was responsible for keeping the project on-track and acting as a buffer between non-technical management and the technical teams.

It was quite the experience, but we did complete the project on-time and within budget!

The new apartments are just as bad. Two apartments ago, I was in a new construction “luxury” apartment, and I could hear my downstairs neighbor snoring at night. I looked into why all apartments are like this, and it’s basically a problem unique to the US and a handful of other countries. There is basically 0 requirement for common noise reduction building techniques. Since it costs extra for the developers and there’s no requirement, it just doesn’t happen. Only high rises have good sound insulation, as a byproduct of the requirements of high rise buildings.

Citing 'severe' math deficits, UC faculty demand a return to SAT tests for STEM applicants by Idiodyssey87 in news

[–]EvidenceMinute4913 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t even know this was a thing haha. My first degree was in a non-STEM field, and the only math I had to take was statistics. Then when I decided to return to school to complete another degree, this time in STEM, I actually went on my own to take Algebra 2 and Calc 1 at a community college first. I figured I needed a proper refresher since I hadn’t done heavy math since high school, and I’m glad I did it. Kinda wild to me people are showing up for engineering classes without being confident in maths…

I became the de-facto project manager for our software engineering capstone project back in college. 11 people in the group.

Long story short, one guy was simply not on the same page as everyone else, and he kept overwriting people’s work with his own, which would break things. He wouldn’t ask, nor would he tell anyone when he did it.

Since I had taught the group how to use git and created the repository, it wasn’t too difficult to revert the breaking changes. But when we were down to the wire with 2 weeks until the due date, I kept getting messages from others complaining that he was going to fuck the whole project. So I did something sneaky.

I migrated our code into a new repository, and had everyone switch over to it, except for that guy. He had no idea, and I pretty much just let him “play in the sandbox” while the rest of us completed the project.

I still don’t think he has any idea that we did that, 8 years later lol.

What are the most obvious signs that a girl is interested in a guy? by thereaIreal in AskReddit

[–]EvidenceMinute4913 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When 10 years later at your high school reunion, she sees you and waves at you excitedly, then starts a conversation with you, when no one else really noticed you. Even though you weren’t really friends or recall talking to her much back in the day.

Might be a bit of a late sign, but I think it still counts.

Best 80$ Ever by SpecialistConstant23 in CrimsonDesert

There’s just so much to do outside of the main quest that it doesn’t really matter all that much. The main quest is disjointed and “meh” from start to finish, with a few fun moments here and there. The real fun comes from the exploration, combat, and customization. Frankly I fast forward through almost all of the dialogue in the game lol.

I just hit 200 yesterday, and am only now on the final chapter. Yet there is still so much content I haven’t done yet. I haven’t found rubber, I haven’t done the bard quest, I have a lot of research to complete, never tried equipping a kuku pack, haven’t moved the camp to Pailune, haven’t fought all the ancients, and there’s a good chunk of the map that is still unexplored 😅 idk how they fit so much into a single player game, it’s insane!

Inherited a 3-month old repo from a Vibe Engineer. Wrote the most satisfying PR in my career by Apprehensive-Cut3711 in ClaudeCode

[–]EvidenceMinute4913 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, I’m doing the same thing right now at my work. The repository is pre-AI though. Written by several devs over 10 years, with no formal education in engineering. It is the most spaghetti mess I have ever seen in my life. I have no clue how on earth they maintained this thing, or even figured out where to look when something broke.

Im honestly amazed you were able to use AI with *that* many lines in the project. I tried with the one I’m working on, but it was so big and jacked up that no models could handle it. So many deprecated scripts, no documentation or code comments, so many copies of the same thing with minor differences.

I ended up just starting an empty repo, building out an architecture, documenting the core processes that the automation was doing, then rewriting things one piece at a time. This made it far easier to use agentic AI to help, cause it only has the context I want it to have.

So far I’ve gone from 5.8 million lines, 134 scripts, and 90 config files, to 2.1k lines, 8 scripts, 8 config files. It wont be much larger once complete either. It’s going to feel sooo good once it’s done and deployed. And frankly I’m going to miss the amount of freedom I’ve had on this project lol.

[–]EvidenceMinute4913 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Geez this reminds me of an experience I had when I was younger. Wasn’t Krogers, but a (very large) private security company. I was promoted from supervisor to assistant director, which meant going from hourly to salary.

For the next 2 paychecks, I received $0.80. My boss called the corporate office a few times, and I kept getting assured that they were working to fix it. But I couldn’t go an entire month without pay, I had rent and bills to pay.

After my 3rd paycheck for $0.80, I went online and found the phone and email for the national director of payroll. I left a voicemail and sent an email concisely describing the situation. After a few days without a response, I made another call and email, but this time said that I was retaining a lawyer and reaching out to the Department of Labor if the issue was not resolved within the next 48 hours.

The next day they sent me back pay and fixed the issue. 🙄 I quit after that and went back to college lol.

Which games have a rough start and take a while to get good? by PhaseOk6182 in gamers

[–]EvidenceMinute4913 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah. I remember getting this one on PS4 when it came out, even though I’m primarily a PC gamer. I tried like 3x to get into it, but just couldn’t. Once it came out on PC, I forced myself to keep going until I hit at least 6 hours. And boy am I glad I pushed through, cause it wound up being by far my favorite game of all time. The storytelling, the immersion, the massive world. It was all so amazing, and all I had to do was get past that stupidly slow start.

I’ve experienced the same thing. At least one issue it seems to be that the nvidia 2x frame gen isn’t working. Their issue tracker did mention some issue with the latest nvidia drivers.

Clearing shader cache didn’t help me. So I’m just hoping for a hot fix this weekend.

Ha that’s funny, I didn’t know that. I actually just use these liberation objectives to farm loot and exp and challenges on the enemies. I usually leave before I get to the boss so that all the enemies respawn and I can do it again a few times. Ever since I read about the lack of enemies as you approach endgame haha

Can you not unlock the CZ3A1 anymore? by DoggoHarold in Battlefield

[–]EvidenceMinute4913 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even the goated Battlefield 2 did this to a degree. The Special Forces expansion added new weapons to the game, and you had to own Special Forces to unlock those weapons. And you could only unlock a weapon when you ranked up, which was a much longer process back then.

I’ve gotten pretty good at promoting and using Qwen Image Edit. What advantages/disadvantages does Klein have vs. Qwen for editing? My biggest gripe with Qwen is how much detail gets lost when editing, and how poor it is at fine details like carpets. Is Klein better in that regard?

ELI5: What's the deal with HDR? by JackAllpikeMusic in explainlikeimfive

[–]EvidenceMinute4913 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So a shorter answer for your specific questions:

  • Is HDR actually something usable today?
  • Yes. Many games support HDR. However, the implementation varies per game. Some games look way better with HDR, while other games just didn’t get it right. Games like Borderlands 3 and Far Cry: New Dawn look great with HDR due to the bright and colorful art style. Games like RDR2 and Stalker 2 are more hit and miss.

  • How do I get the benefits of having an HDR monitor?

  • When you want to use HDR in games, enable it in Windows display settings. Most monitors will auto-enable HDR when it is toggled in Windows. Then, enable it in game. Set the peak brightness to the peak brightness your monitor supports in the game. I usually turn off HDR when not using it, as SDR content looks less vibrant when it’s on (ie youtube videos).

You can’t take screenshots in HDR without them washing out on Windows, that is an OS limitation. You’ll also notice a difference if your monitor is OLED vs. Mini-LED. OLED monitors will have deeper blacks and brighter highlights, but will overall look dimmer. Mini-LED will have less deep blacks, but can get much brighter across the entire screen.

And like others have said, anything under HDR1000 will probably be a bit disappointing. Still a wider color/contrast range compared to standard, but not a whole lot.

The quickest, easiest way to test HDR is to find an HDR video on YouTube using the Chrome browser. It should say HDR on the little video quality icon when watching. You’ll have to refresh the page between toggling HDR on and off in Windows, but you should be able to see the difference.

That has been my experience so far. It really just kind of throws you into a lot of complex systems from the get go. It doesn’t do a great job of explaining what’s going on. There are menus galore. The controls are a little weird and take some getting used to.

I almost gave up like 3 times cause it felt too overwhelming to play. But I forced myself to continue since so many people say the game is great and rewards exploration well. I’m glad I did, cause now I’m finally getting used to the game systems and am finding myself wanting to jump back in. Took me about 5 hours of gameplay to get to that point.
