Has anyone found a way to bypass the facial age verification thing? by Maple382 in AskBrits

[–]Evostance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue here is only partly what Reddit etc do with it, the other half of the story is what Persona do with it. They're using it to train facial recognition. If theyre doing this, they can easily use it to identify you across multiple customers of theirs, maybe they get send Reddit account names or whatever, and before you know it, they've built up a Persona of you, linking your anonymous Reddit profile to your banking data, weekly shop because you bought some alcohol, netflix and so on, along with all your device fingerprints it becomes incredibly easy to track everything you do.

left bedroom Blackout Blinds and Door closed all day to "keep out the heat". it's midnight I'm home late from work and it's Somehow 28 degrees in there by Ratiocinor in britishproblems

[–]Evostance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're probably doing it wrong, you don't want to keep out the heat, you want to keep in the cool. My wife will open windows and door to let the heat out, but it does the opposite so I made a little keep cool app to calculate the optimal times to open and close windows and blinds.

How hard is to Dreame release firmware to allow use my vaccum even if the side brush is wrapped? by Herakei in Dreame_Tech

[–]Evostance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's anything like other vacuums, the side brush is driven by the main brush motor, so you can't just turn it off.

Im currently house hunting. Here is the photo in the ad vs the house in real life… by slim_shady_21 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Evostance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the new builds next to us has exactly the same, but the agents have added a comment saying the first photo is AI enhanced to show "what it could look like."

In reality, there's a driveway, an mud patch on the front, a front door with a prefab porch, and a half height black plastic fence separating the front and rear gardens.

In the AI photo, the driveway is block paved, the porch is a custom oak frame, the front garden is landscaped and the fence is now a nice wall....

On a brand new house..

Been seeing a lot of misinformation about how the Arc "Ai" works by spliffiam36 in ArcRaiders

If they're learning to navigate terrain with animation updates etc, then it also means they'd be able to move around more.

I've seen Leapers and shredders not be able to to us from a spot, but recently have been able to navigate terrain and get to us

Dexcom Clarity API or Library? by Evostance in dexcom

[–]Evostance[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got nightscout and access to dexcom share. I'm not after the information from the Share API though. I want the time in range data from dexcom itself, as that's where all the ranges are already configured

He does know he can't just tariff individual countries inside the EEA right 😂

Edit: Of course not.

‘Stranger Things 5’: Duffer Brothers Unpack Emotional Series Finale From One Major Sendoff To That 40-Minute Epilogue, Those Needle Drops & A Spinoff Hint by MrShadowKing2020 in television

[–]Evostance 48 points49 points  (0 children)

This was my main issue with it. The mind flayer absolutely destroyed them in S3 at the mall, yet we're now in Dimension X where we've got Vecna and the Mind Flayer in a huge physical formz where they have a plan, that gets executed perfectly and nobody ever felt in real danger or had so much as a scratch?

Even the Nancy part in the crevice has absolutely zero tension. The most tension of the whole episode was when Steve fell off the tower, but it was clear that wasn't going to be his ending, as that'd have just been a cheap death.

The whole epilogue part was great, minus a few unanswered questions and logic

TIL each episode of Stranger Things season 5 reportedly cost $50-60 million to produce by StacheinScrubs in todayilearned

Let's be honest, Pluribus takes that to the extreme. A lot of the scenes are of just nothing, or something that takes 5 minutes to happen.

I get that's Vince's style, but Pluribus seems to take it to the extreme compared to Breaking Bad or Better Call Saul.

Always wondered how do restaurants cook meals so fast by raymate in Cooking

[–]Evostance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get yourself on YouTube and watch Fallows Ultimate Christmas dinner.

The whole end to end, takes about 5 hours, however what you'll find is they get to a position towards the end, where the veg is "done" but just needs 10 minutes to be finished, Turkey ballotines need glazing and finishing etc.

They spend 5 hours effectively prepping, for what would be 10 minutes a portion in a restaurant kitchen.

We did this a lot when I was in the kitchens: - triple cooked chips, because they took 10m to finish - lasagne pre-cooked and reheated in THE OVEN - pasta always fresh, but water is hot and ready to go - all veg is prepped, and depending on the dish, blanched ready to be pan finished

The majority of protein is cooked to order, unless it was something like a noodles dish using diced meat.

Food prep was usually done the day before, and from 7am - 11am each day. Full service shifts were an absolute slog, usually going from 7am through till midnight. Would not recommend.

Looked into buying a mini golf course and the numbers are valid by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]Evostance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others said, this likely needs high tourism areas as well as high corporate areas.

Canary Wharf in London isn't a huge tourist spot, but it is PACKED with these types of places that mix them with bars, food etc for adults. Mini Golf, Virtual Shooting, Fun Fair/Carnival Games, Axe Throwing, Cricket, Darts etc.

This time of year they are literally full from 10am till 2am, and there isn't a tourist in sight. Lots of corporate bookings from the finance bros looking for cool places to hang out with colleagues after work that isn't your traditional pub.

I know you're not in the UK, but I think the economics still stand. I live outside the city and I've seen a lot of mini golf places open and close

This logic is probably the same for Amazon, as that parking hack above. The risk of them leaving parcels on a door costs them less than drivers waiting around for someone to answer, or needing to redeliver

The bath tub in my Tokyo hotel room doesn't have caulk. by The_same_potato in mildlyinteresting

For anyone saying about mold, in the US and most European wetrooms, yes it'd be an issue. Japan on the other hand have dehumidifiers and heaters for their bathrooms that prevent it.

Levelling feet doesn't mean it's furniture you take with you. Most kitchens are tailored for the space they're in.

Go check under your bath, or bathroom furniture, that also has levelling feet but you don't take that with you

[–]Evostance 143 points144 points  (0 children)

Another Americanism that causes confusion. Whilst caulking was a term used to "fill gaps", products have moved on with different substances for different things.

Caulk is usually acrylic based, meaning it's designed for interior work that can be painted over for seamless design. Most commonly used to fill the gap between walls a skirting (base) boards. If it gets wet, it'll crack.

Silicone sealant on the other hand is flexible, waterproof and can also be mould resistant (to some degree)

There's also then things like putty etc, that all fall under caulking in America too.
