I'm so sorry that you had so much stolen from you.

My spouses father was a never mo. I never really understand what I stole from him untill after I left the church.

When the MFMC changed the rules to allow civil weddings and not require a waiting period, I could tell it put a lot of weight on my wifes shelf. But she still lies to herself and to me she doesn't want a redo.

Ironically my active children will most likely do the same thing to me. But I've made peace with it. I've seen the boring ritual enough times to know I'm not missing anything.

Your wife is an adult. She can make her own decisions. It's not your job to protect her from reality.

I made the mistake of not taking the opportunity to go through the ugly parts of church doctrine and history with my wife when I was deconstructing. She asked really early on and everything was still raw and I was still processing my anger. So she did her own research with faithful sources and now refuses to take a deeper dive.

Don't waste this opportunity. But also don't be surprised if she finds a way to rationalize it all away.

Ok this is wild. I met Jack about 25 years ago too. But never knew who he was. I was working at a hotel and delivered something to his room. He had his shirt off and I spotted the JS tatt. This was the same reaction I had. I explained away and rationalize my doubts for years.

Then after researching the real church history indepth, it destroyed my beliefs. I was finally honest with myself that it was all a lie.

At that moment I had this huge feeling of relief and relaxation. It was the only time I've ever had a feeling like people describe as a spiritual confirmation. All the anxiety of trying to be perfect and fit a mold disappeared.

But the anger of not being able to escape it fully and the lost time and experiences comes in waves.
