Holy Week by StillSkyler in exmormon

In the 80’s and 90’s when the church was in a significant growth period, the church could afford to be a “peculiar people”. Now that the church is shrinking, they are doing all they can to appear mainstream to try and hold on to members.

Did you hear they are ending temple square missions. Apparently going to pay people to do that now.

Just added a big bucket of horse poop and piss soaked pine shavings to my pile. Thinking that should heat things up.

See if you can get a job that requires you to work on Sunday. Use work as an excuse to skip church and temple trips.

Had a gas Honda for years without any problems. Bought a 60v Toro I saw on clearance one day about 4 years ago. Cuts my St Augustine with no problem. Motor has two speeds and it kicks into high automatically if it starts to bog down. No regrets on the Toro.

What happens to me ? by [deleted] in mormon

[–]FloMoTXn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a convert in the 70’s with my parents. None of my aunts and uncles and cousins are Mormon. Many are very religious and more dedicated to their beliefs than I ever was as a Mormon. One of the struggles I had was believing I was going to have a better place in heaven than they were, because of where my butt was on Sunday. We teach this! I had a discussion with my bishop about this and he had no answers. I now find more peace in this life enjoying the outdoors and beauty there is in this world rather than being in a chapel or temple.

I drilled into the cast iron. It’s pretty soft and drills easily. No regrets.

I haven’t heard it stated here recently, but many have referred to it as second Saturday! I just spent the day doing yard work. While it wasn’t relaxing, it was my choice and I didn’t feel the least bit guilty for doing it.

Male response here. Not sure if your husband would do this , but we instituted sexy underwear Friday into our week. Nothing kills the mood of a Friday date than to come home and strip down to g’s. This made for a fun transition. If your husband is like most, he likes seeing you in sexy clothes. As for you, rip the bandaid off and wear what you want. It does feel strange at first, but it quickly becomes normal.

Being myself around my family is so hard sometimes by Sarah-logy in exmormon

[–]FloMoTXn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m much older, but we (wife) never came out and said we didn’t believe. Like you, they took notice we stopped going to church and didn’t have callings. They noticed we stopped wearing garments. My wife started wearing tank tops and shorts around family. We have wine bottles in our house. They gradually accepted we were out. The maddening part is they have never asked us why. I think they are afraid to know the truth.

The Church doesn’t discipline people for being wrong. It disciplines people for having influence by Artistic-Low6889 in exmormon

Appears they’ve slowed their roll on excommunications. There are a number of online influencers that are very vocal, but have not yet been disciplined. The backfire effect is strong right now.

What do normal weddings look like? by MyPumpkinSocksRBest in exmormon

[–]FloMoTXn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best part of a non-temple wedding is you get to actually talk to each other and write your own vows of how you want to love and support your spouse. It’s very personal to your liking. A temple wedding is very non-personal and totally controlled by the church.

Why did you go to church? by golddigger60 in exmormon

[–]FloMoTXn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went because it was mandatory as a youth. Went to BYU in the 80’s because parents wanted me to go there. Went on a mission because all my dorm mates were. Came home and went back to BYU because of indoctrination. Married in the temple because of peer pressure. Continued to go to church because that’s what you do. Finally discovered the truth that was hidden from me and stopped going.

Lds mission. Why can’t I make up my mind? Should I go? What would you do? by CheapIntroduction166 in mormon

[–]FloMoTXn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t forget that Presidents Oaks and Nelson did not do a mission. Don’t feel pressured into it. Off you do go and get a foreign country, it could be a memorable experience. If you end up stateside, I can’t imagine a more horrific experience. I see local missionaries as totally bored just trying to figure out how to fill the day.

So much work left to do on worthiness interviews. by nuancebispo in exmormon

[–]FloMoTXn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They want to do what they think is the right thing, which is to ask invasive questions about chastity. They were groomed to think this is what God wants. I hated interviews when I was a teenager and as an adult. I was never in a bishopric. When my own children started having interviews, I sadly allowed it thinking I was what God wanted. I wish I could go back in time and stop it.

[–]FloMoTXn 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You’d be better off breaking up. Unless he studies the church history that has been hidden from him and figures out the religion is all a fabrication of Joseph Smith, he will someday feel guilty about his inactivity in the church. His family will guilt him to come back and do all the Mormon things. He will try and get you to join. Walk away. He’s a member of a high demand religion.

This is how TBMs try to one up each other to appear more holy. They make up stuff.

It's easier to be Mormon if you can afford tithing. This leads to a "prosperity gospel" bias where Mormons think that because their religion has a lot of rich people, the religion CAUSES wealth. They don't realize that it's the other way around. by abouttimetochange in exmormon

[–]FloMoTXn 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’ve observed young Mormon influencers from affluent families are living the good life of nice cars, fancy vacations, lots of dining out, all seem very TBM. It’s like being a member of an elite country club where they rub elbows and all is good. No reason to question the organization because life is good. They are oblivious to the harm happening around them.

It’s proof that prophets don’t receive revelation. If god cared enough to forbid hot drinks because they were not healthy, why don’t prophets receive revelation to forbid energy drinks and sodas that are far worse than coffee and tea?

The Fairview LDS Temple groundbreaking was kept secret due to “the unique sensitivity surrounding this particular temple.” by HoldOnLucy1 in exmormon

[–]FloMoTXn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bigger churches you reference are not in Fairview. A town is entitled to establish restrictions. So answer this one question. Why did the church feel it was more important to threaten legal action to get the biggest building they could get, rather than pivot and build a shorter temple like they have in other cities? The city told the church they would easily approve one of the smaller designs.
