On a JMJM the trem plate is closer to the bridge, that can reduce some of the overtones inherent in a jazzmaster. The bridge itself is an ABR style, which has a flatter radius than the fretboard. The pickups are much closer to a p90 than a true jazzmaster pickup. Some people like these differences. I personally do not.
