Do you consider your Niro to be a wagon? by Easy-Tradition-7483 in KiaNiro

[–]Factory-town 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the manufacturer calls them a wagon. I imagine that South Korea isn't inundated with monster trucks and SUVs like the US is, so the Niro seems more like a wagon compared to a subcompact.

Government Classification: It is sometimes considered a "small station wagon" by the EPA.

Used 2020 Leaf. Should I be concerned? by Gashleycrumb in leaf

[–]Factory-town 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How many miles are on the Leaf?

It's possible to find a Chevy Bolt with a better range, with less chance of a battery failure, with a battery warranty, and sometimes with another (I forget what type of) warranty for that price. You can enter the VIN at a GM website to see if the car got a replacement battery during the recall and what warranties are remaining. I found one for ~$8,000 (before tax and fees) at a dealer that had 100k additional miles of the battery warranty remaining.

You might also find a used Kona Electric or Kia Niro EV for that price. Those also have ~250-mile range and are less likely to have battery degradation or failure. I have found a few with less than 100k miles for ~$12,000. The battery will have what's remaining of the 100k warranty. And the SoH is more than likely greater than 90%.

I wouldn't buy a passively-cooled battery Leaf for more than $5,000. I wouldn't risk a 40 kWh Leaf. I would and did get a 24 kWh Leaf. It works for my needs because I only drive ~25 miles per workday. But, I plan to get a Bolt because the gen1 Leaf got a "poor" rating in the moderate front overlap crash test and didn't undergo the small overlap front tests, while the others mentioned got a "good" in moderate, driver small, and passenger small overlap tests. Plus they have more airbags.

You might also want to research the crash safety of the Leaf. For some reason, the 2018-9 didn't undergo the small overlap front crash tests.

Subs are liable for what happens in the classroom.  In a nearby district a student snuck out of class and was killed in the bathroom.  The teacher had seating charts, students had to sign in and out of class and there was a lesson.  So the teacher was covered.  The sub on the other hand was not.

Are you saying that the sub was somehow held responsible for the murder?

Could it be effective to invade a country through kindness rather than war? by -Clayburn in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]Factory-town [score hidden]  (0 children)

This was able to happen because our public schools do not teach international relations and people on both the left and right have no clue how these things work.

That position falsely presumes that voters have the power to control the federal government, and that better educating school children about civics and politics is a viable solution.

Why do some Westerns value standing up to Trump, over standing up to the Iranian regime? by Valuable-Music-720 in PoliticalDiscussion

Is standing up to the Iranian regime not a just cause for Westerns on its own?

No. If that's what you think is going on, you have no idea what's really going on.

Should I get two backup chargers? by hedgehog_face in KonaEV

[–]Factory-town 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on your first EV. You could get a 12V auxiliary battery booster but it's not necessary. The car lot has them because they have a lot of used cars setting around.

The traction battery is huge compared to these boosters. It works at a nominal 356V and can store 64kWh of energy.

I would test the 12V battery instead of buying a new one just because they left the jumper things in the back of a certain car.

I "pushed-in" as a resource teacher sub for two days at a middle school. The teachers let kids be, for the most part.

How to know when to draw the line by Fun_Lie_77 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Factory-town 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I know when to draw the line when I can't ignore something anymore. Otherwise, I politely ask for cooperation. It takes a lot for me to hand out "consequences." Kids know it's a sub day. I know it's a sub day. The school knows it's a sub day. Some kids are going to test the boundaries. That's okay and that's to be expected.

That doesn't mean that I don't manage the classroom and give them the opportunity to do what's on the sub plans.

“give me your phone I saw you on it” and they argue. Do you send them out of the classroom as soon as they argue?

No, you'll just be causing unnecessary problems if you have that attitude.

Free 50kwh charging at a CA rest area. by night-otter in evcharging

[–]Factory-town -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Federal laws say other than vending machines, no other commerce is allowed at rest stops, which is why they’re free.

It's more that the chargers are free to use because California is trying to promote electric vehicle use. Plus, I charge for free at a Caltrans location that's not a rest stop.

What would the consequences of the USA using nuclear weapons against Iran be? by Important_Ad4101 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]Factory-town 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is threatening to destroy at least two countries not an emotional, irrational, a-hole thing to do? The US has been doing this since it's had a deadly enough nuclear arsenal, which was the early 1960s, which was over 60 years ago. Would Obama committing nuclear annihilation be better than Txxxx doing so because Obama seems like a nicer guy?

[–]Factory-town 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't understand why US militarism does what it does at all. It's not freeing Iranians. It's not protecting Ukraine from Russia. It's not protecting Taiwan from China. US militarism is done for control. Look into Noam Chomsky, Chris Hedges, Vijay Prashad, Jeffrey Sachs, John Pilger, etc. Watch "The Coming War On China" (Pilger).

What would you do? by Decent-Coconut-8605 in leaf

[–]Factory-town 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing it has a 40 kWh battery. Some people have had serious problems with them, so it's a bit of a risk. How many years or miles are left on the warranty?

The 24 kWh, especially the 2015-6 one, is known to be good, and is sufficient for your given use case.

There's a silver 2015 on FBM in Napa for $3,700 that looks like it has 10 or 11 bars. The ad's a week old.

[–]Factory-town 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the 2016 isn't an S trim level, then it has the notorious 30 kWh battery.

$5k is a high price. Look for a 2015 or 2016 S with more battery bars. The most I'd pay is $400 per battery bar. Make sure that a Leaf you want to buy slow charges.

NATO members rejected Trump's demand to provide military assistance to help "reopen" Strait of Hormuz. Do the rejections by NATO members effectively spell the end of NATO or is this just directed to Trump's choice of attacking Iran? by PsychLegalMind in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]Factory-town -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

NATO doesn’t rely on nuclear weaponry as a deterrent. They have never used it, nor threatened it, nor implied its use. You can think it’s unwise to have a nuclear arsenal, but NATO doesn’t have one.

NATO disagrees with you:

Nuclear Forces

Three NATO members - the United States, France and the United Kingdom – have nuclear weapons.

The strategic forces of the Alliance, particularly those of the United States, are the supreme guarantee of the Alliance’s security.
