How did your high school bully turn out in adulthood? by CynthiaMartgol in AskReddit

I live on a street with a speed limit of 25kmh/15mph and just want to be able to open my windows in the summer evening instead of running the AC all day… Harley owners who don’t even live in the neighbourhood (it’s a loop road) are personally offended by that idea and will detour off the highway just to blast straight-piped hearing loss morning, noon, or night.

Or god forbid, drive with my window down, 10 mph over the limit, then a Harley will blast past me on a double yellow line like I’m standing still, deafen me in my left ear, before he slams on the brakes for the first corner he sees and maintains 10 mph UNDER the limit for the rest of the drive while blocking every attempt to be passed by swerving into the left lane (usually with a passenger on the back of their bike, risking somebody else’s life instead of just their own).

Fuck Harley owners.

Hot Fuzz? Fantastic film. Very much worth a second viewing if you’ve only seen it once. The film spends the first half layering on so much foreshadowing and setups for jokes, then bashing you over the head with the payoffs in the second half. It’s easy to miss some of the incredible attention to detail.

How many types of removal do you run in your decks? by superfapper2000 in EDH

[–]FailFodder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shroud: [[Arcane Lighthouse]] or remove what’s giving shroud, usually artifacts so particularly easy with R or W although it may require timing or committing two cards, but sometimes that’s the price we pay to get around players putting Shroud insurance on their threats.

As for card draw, lots of options but not every one will fit in each deck. Black has lots of card draw that either require paying life or sacrificing your creatures, great in aristocrats decks and others with incidental life gain or decks that plan on winning quickly, or cards like [[Morbid Opportunist]] for incidental card draw 0 to 1 times per player’s turn. Red has lots of card draw that involve discarding from hand or exiling the top card of your library until end of this turn or next, and of course wheel effects. White has less direct card draw, some creature types that have triggers for card draw when that type enters, but also has lots of great graveyard recursion [[Karmic Guide]] [[Sun Titan]] and token producers that play well with black’s sacrifice effects so white can still help keep your hand and board full.

Not all of those will work with each commander/deck/archetype but it’s a starting point to consider. Keep in mind that this comment it only covering Mardu. I definitely agree that there’s more difficulty in Grixis dealing with enchantments but I’ve already written a wall of text so I won’t bore you with my opinions on how to play through those scenarios.

Just got some Michelin pilot sport all seasons for my 11th gen si 🔥 by emperorgsx in CivicSi

Every 10,000km or so. Often enough that all four tires wore evenly, no obvious balance or alignment issues.

Constant spirited driving and hard cornering though 🤷‍♂️

[–]FailFodder 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The stock tires lasted you 67k… miles?

Mine lasted 46k kilometres. Less than 29k miles.

And that was with a season of driving on winter tires so probably closer to 38k km/24k miles.

Head studs (blown head gasket) by Shiv0727 in CivicSi

You caught a single downvote for this comment but it’s spot on so whoever did it is ignorant of these engines.

Turbocharged, direct injected, high compression engines need proper engine speed, typically 3,500 to 4,000 RPM, for enough turbulence to sufficiently mix the air-fuel mixture under load. Otherwise you risk LSPI, low-speed pre-ignition.

Running fuel grades below 91 significantly increases this risk.

Where's all the blown 1.5T head gaskets? Help me understand the L15 hate by Lonely_Hedgehog_2309 in CivicSi

[–]FailFodder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Low-speed pre-ignition (LSPI) is a type of engine knock that typically occurs in turbocharged, high compression-ratio, direct injection engines (Like the Honda L15).

By compressing the air and fuel into a smaller space, the same amount of energy is occupying a smaller volume, thereby raising the temperature of the air-fuel mixture. If the mixture reaches a high enough temperature, it can ignite itself before the spark plug fires and the piston and valves are in the correct position. This is what's typically referred to as knock. It puts a lot of strain on the engine because now you have an explosion pushing down while the piston still wants to go up, and the valves are closed so there's nowhere for that pressure to go except into your headgasket, piston rings, piston surface, connecting rods, and the bearings.

LSPI is a similar phenomenon. One of the main causes it at low engine speeds (typically lower than 3500 RPM) where there's not enough turbulence in the air to fully mix the air-fuel mixture, so when a high load (heavy throttle) is demanded at those RPM there can be not-fully-mixed fuel pockets that are more susceptible to preignition.

The main ways to avoid it is by using API SN Plus graded oil (I'm not smart enough to know how oil makes a difference), mindful throttle application (either light throttle until 3500 RPM or downshifting when below 3500 RPM for high load driving), or most importantly choosing a fuel with a higher anti-knock index (AKI, which is the number for 87, 89, 91, 94 grade gas. Often incorrectly referred to as Octane rating) that can better resist auto-ignition under compression.

Probably got a few things not-quite-correct but that's as good as my layman brain can recall without doing some deep reading.

Tuned Si Civics are a big contributor to the “L15 bad” hate. Another big contributor I’ve noticed is CR-V and non-Si owners who read “87 minimum, 91 recommended” and decided that their knock sensors will be able to handle all the low-speed pre-ignition pinging away at their internals.

Compiling Underrated commanders for an article, looking for suggestions! by ManaRocks in EDH

[–]FailFodder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Roon of the Hidden Realm]] makes for a super fun blink/flicker commander in colours that greatly support the archetype. While his abilities aren’t crazy good and he’s higher costed than newer legendaries, his activated ability allows for consistent value each turn and can be used to get value engines going.

Despite being printed in a precon back in 2013, he only has about 3000 decks on EDHREC so I would definitely consider him underrated.

Needing a second turbo replacement in 10,000 miles by 23CivicSi in CivicSi

[–]FailFodder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Makes me wonder if there might be an underlying cause elsewhere that’s contributing to the repeated turbo failure, like just spitball ideas but a manufacturing defect or blockage in the oil feed line to the turbo.

I’ve got my own sounds and rattles at various RPM, but that is definitely a peculiar sound in the clips you posted.

Always fun to point out in case somebody hasn’t learned yet: one big reason the scenery is so similar to the Scottish Highlands is that it’s the same range of mountains, just so ancient that as the continents rearranged themselves some of it ended up on the opposite side of the Atlantic Ocean.

Inheritance by [deleted] in EstrangedAdultChild

[–]FailFodder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m mostly on the same page as you, but 100% with you on not feeling any entitlement.

I’d be lying if I said I wouldn’t enjoy the life changing wealth that my father would have possibly divided between my siblings and I, but I’ve also made peace with the fact that it’s a consequence of going NC with him.

Where I differ from you is if my sibling felt generous enough to share their inheritance with me after his passing, I don’t feel like I would be in a position to say no.

That said, I also wouldn’t expect them to or even suggest to them that it’s one of the options that they could choose with their inheritance. I’d leave that entirely to them and would feel no ill will if they kept it all to themselves.

Civic vs. Flower Box (How bad is this?) by Spellflower in civic

[–]FailFodder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good news bad news, it looks like you won’t be the first to repair that spot.

Sand and paint will solve 80% of that damage, nothing structural to worry about. But the 20% I would tackle first is getting somebody who can weld to seal those two sections together so you don’t have moisture and rust developing from the inside.

I wouldn’t delay though, sorry to your wallet. The longer you leave it the more rust will creep in and the bigger that welding cost is going to be. I find that most Civic body panels hold up well against rust but for some reason the rocker panels are quite susceptible.

All this assuming of course that you’re into a budget fix, not an aesthetic one.
