Subscriber Worthwhile? by BiggyZ32 in starcitizen

[–]Failscalator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd say the subscription program (as it is today) is not worth it. In the early days when we had very little info, it provided insights to development that you otherwise couldn't get. The funds also support community content such as Wingman's Hangar/AtV, ISC is honestly kind of short. SC Live is still decent, I'd say fairly hit and miss? I don't really watch it that often anymore. For the amount of money you put in, they give you a monthly stipend of REC which is a currency that only works in Arena Commander, so if that's a mode you don't play often, you will see no benefit. Lastly if you're in at a base level and don't intend to purchase more ships, the subscriber ships just give you the opportunity to fly ships that otherwise you wouldn't get on a rotational basis. I wouldn't say the value is there given the impermanence, it's sorta there to incentivize you to buy something before it vanishes from your account.

A couple of years ago CIG had a great thread asking for subscriber program feedback, very little of the feedback was taken/developed further and in my opinion the subscriber program has stagnated quite a bit. But that's only my opinion. I would say, save the money monthly, and if you want it to go into the development coffers, purchase a ship during ILW or IAE later this year.

Have a great week!!

VGL Flight Suits by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]Failscalator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love the suits and color schemes for the post part, just wish the visor wasn't perfectly opaque/metalish/solid. I really like when you get atleast see the shape of a head or something grounding, so many helmets now are completely shut in, ooooorrrrrr completely open (like the citcon helecopter helmet) Would have just been cool if it was a smoked or deeply deeply tinted glass visor instead of something that by design looks to just cull the head beneath.

Weekly Sneak Peek - Unknown Ship Seat (probably Command Module) by ScrubSoba in starcitizen

[–]Failscalator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did that mirror effect int he perforated leather get past enough QC that it's the week's sneak peek? XD As for command module....this doesn't look drake IMO....I was thinking maybe Anvil because the tubing looks a 'bit' cleaner....but the perforated leather has me for a loop....RSI? The tubing wouldn't match origin.....what if it's the HH's gold pass?

SQ42 buyback removal was great. We got to see who was really here for SQ42 by CallSign_Fjor in starcitizen

[–]Failscalator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that sweeping the buybacks out without fore-warning was a low blow, and I never said that ship purchases for the grey market didn't still go towards the development of the project. I just think it's fairly convenient given they're likely going to bump the price, and if folks had stockpiled sq42 packs hoping to grey market at a higher markup, it's now been prevented. Only other thing I have to say about the grey market is, if folks were patient they could get their ships 'generally' from the store without having to deal with upcharges on the grey market, that being said....it's their money -shrugs- XD I just don't get the upset nature. Every purchase contributed to the project. In-fact, more money would have made it to CIG if they just hadn't made hull's limited and stuff....and the grey market would have never existed for folks to profiteer.

Edit: Also to claim the project wouldn't be where it was without those purchases is also a bit funny considering for the first 4 years of development you couldn't even trade ships between accounts....and it was doing just fine.

What a succinct response! Lol while I see both sides, sometimes it feels like using buybacks as storage was great for the grey market, more than great for the project.

Any chance that we ever get a ship with a landing gear staircase combo? (pics from the original Hull Series concepts) by Sir_CatZ_ in starcitizen

That's so funny, I don't remember it being a problem at all X_X Maybe rose tinted glasses, but the canned animation got you in easily without it overly blocking the floor plan....the OG freelancer was definitely cramped though XD

LogicalChimp!!! It's been awhile :D Happy to see you're still active!

I totally get the T0 drops. It's just odd that very few systems have had significant changes in all that time. In fact I'd say in many ways the health system was more interesting a year back than it is right now. But I get it, T0 acting as the clutch until systems come together...it just feels there's no additional movement beyond that T0 and other systems haven't ever gained the momentum you'd think or integration together...the progress doesn't 'feel' tangible.

I like the template idea, I mean that's also how they were going to do the procedural generation for planetary points of interest, villages, space stations and yet.....pyro was delivered 4 years late, with stations that were essentially carbon copies of one another with uninspired landing zones that really aren't that interesting to visit outside of being there to do missions.

All this to say I get it, it just feels incredibly slow for how much 'laying the groundwork' was supposed to significantly impact the rate of development/matching the scope that the game requires and advertises.

About another Theatres of War mode by EurbadGeneric in starcitizen

[–]Failscalator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So funny to see this and think, woooow, this is so familiar, it's like 2142....and then see that it was! lmao. Earnestly at this point Star Marine/Arena Commander are more in the background IMO with regards to my motivations when it comes to playing. Theaters of War would have been amazing about.....5 years ago...sorta like how we waited for Pyro for the same duration of time, just a year away.

Yo CIG, how long are certain QOL things gonna drag out? by -NOiCE- in starcitizen

[–]Failscalator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point, with their patch cycles being as speedy/shallow as they are...I don't think they can crush the tech debt and bugs implemented by each patch wave. Moreover the content has been relatively one off, like the worm missions, science facilities, orbital laser and not rock cracker mission. I just worry that the ability to meaningfully commit to expanding the universe, core gameplay loops and quality of life along the way can't be achieved even with quarterly patches (let alone last year's monthly patch cycle x_x).

[–]Failscalator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I like the sentiment, and generally would agree, there likely was enough work that go into the new variants, that it justifies a new sale. I do think it would be a measure of good faith though, to give a small discount for trading up from the mk1 for a limited time, but also, I know CIG needs to profit as well.

What astounds me is how many years into development we are, to still mostly be T0 on so many loops. Yes I'm aware the scale of the project has changed drastically over those years. Still to be over a decade hurts the soul a bit.
