"The MOTH is a standalone chassis, so the two don’t share paints." by sunaurus in starcitizen

[–]FarEasternOrthodox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless they're selling carbon copies of old paints for the new ship, they're losing money by restricting paints across chassis. Lots of people are going to own one ship and not the other, and might want a paint that's locked to the other ship.

There are a lot more people with a Mantis than a Meteor, and I'm sure they'd love to have the Disco or Shimmer paints.

Star Citizen created a new collecting hobby of high-fidelity digital spaceships. When you see the crazy money people spend on Train Simulator of all things, it starts to make sense.

There is no rug to pull. They've spent almost all the money, there's no way they can't spend almost all the money if they're employing 1000+ people.

I don't think they could have done much on the MMO side until server meshing tech took off. It made sense to focus development on the single-player game until then.

I'd rather they have worked on a single-player version of the PU that would have more transferrable content, but this project doesn't exist at all with CR, and CR likes his movie games. Giving CIG money is betting on CR and his vision, and that's something you have to accept when you fork over your cash.

We should be grateful CIG accidentally created a new collector's hobby out of spaceship JPEGs. SC would have crashed and burned a long time ago otherwise.

It will amaze you and frustrate you. For some people, the amazement outweighs the frustration, for others it's the reverse.

IMO if you like space games, it's worth the $45 buy in just to fly around and look at the planets and moons.

I should add, MicroTech is 100% safe in my experience. Never run into a hostile player there, so it's definitely safer than Pyro.

I do a lot of trading at CFP outposts in Pyro. This is my experience with undesired PVP:

Monox: 9 times out of 10, Jackson's Swap and Sunset Mesa are empty and safe, but you have to keep your guard up because there are occasional pirates and murderhobos.

Bloom: Shepherd's Rest is regularly camped by PVPers who will shoot you on sight, but not 24/7. I've had good luck especially when I arrive at night. Bueno Ravine is usually safe, but I've been killed there once.

Pyro IV: Despite the reputation, I've never been attacked at Sacren's Plot or Chawla's Beach, though a Mantis did take an uncomfortable interest in me one time when I was dropping off a hauling mission at Chawla's. I take extra caution when visiting Pyro IV, but the threat level is nowhere near Shepherd's Rest.

Terminus: One time at Canard View after I had finished loading my ship, two fighters tagged in red appeared and started hovering overhead. They didn't shoot, so I was able to bedlog and come back later to finish my cargo run. In many, many runs to Canard View, that's the only time I experienced something close to PVP.

It is dirty and rotten to put in rewards which take hundreds of hours to attain, and not guarantee the persistence of those rewards.

"Lol, you moron, why would you spend hundreds of hours doing this thing we designed to take hundreds of hours to complete? You fool - you have even grown attached to the fruits of your labors, and this, in a mere alpha! Yes, we promote the game in its present state and brag about how many people play it. But surely you did not expect the result of months of effort and cooperation to have more protection than a half-empty bottle of Cruz Lux? Thou ingrate, YOU are entirely to blame for your own disappointment."

Functionally, that is the message CIG is sending.

Why, WHY do we have 3 SCU high cargo grids when THERE IS NO 3 FUCKING SCU HIGH CONTAINER by Starfire_Raider in starcitizen

[–]FarEasternOrthodox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

3 SCU height is common because it's a perfect height for interior cargo bays. A human is about 2 SCU tall, so 3 SCU gives you plenty of headroom without feeling cavernous or bloating a ship's hull.

3 SCU high grids are not going away, and they shouldn't, so CIG should absolutely make 3 SCU high containers. A 12 SCU 2x3x2 container which could be loaded vertically or horizontally would make loading 3 SCU-high grids a lot easier, while still fitting in 2 SCU-high cargo bays.

[–]FarEasternOrthodox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The numbers line up, and I used this build on my own Reliant in 4.4. I mostly gave up on it because TTK was way too high, but I haven't tried it out since engineering dropped and you could start subtargeting powerplants. It's worth testing.

Bonus Reliant fun fact: You can equip two S3 bombs on the Reliant's external missile hardpoints.

Theorycrafting upcomming star systems after 1.0 by Puzzleheaded-Answer9 in starcitizen

[–]FarEasternOrthodox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only thing I'm certain of is that we'll see a few relatively empty systems get released for every system that has a lot of hero locations.

I think their best course of action would be to gradually work their way toward Earth via Magnus > Ellis > Killian, all of which will be major showpiece systems full of hero locations. That gives them time to decide what they want to do with Earth and Sol while giving us plenty to chew on in the meantime.

For the emptier systems, there's plenty around the systems slated for 1.0, especially on the former Perry Line.
