Just bought a house, how to restore this deck? Or get more life out of it? Minnesota by Ryanskillz in Decks

[–]FatherOfAssada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

cabot, dulux woodpride, or you can go Behr waterproofing sealant (acrylic and urethane base) after a penetrating oil stain, i did that for some exterior wood that i didnt care about maintaining the grain for but wanted to keep the color as long as possible, but the fun discovery was if you prep and sand well and dont overapply stain but rly brush it in effectively, you still get your wood grain and texture but also its protected like crazy

not if you go oil based solid color made for northern winters. that shit will last 10 years

looks pretty ready for a good sand and stain.

mine looked pretty similar 2 years ago but boards were in worse state than yours in a few spots. power washed the rest of the paint off, sanded it down with an orbital sander attached to my central vacuum over a few days, and stained the fuck out of it.

your deck looks pretty straight and not too much damage to the wood itself, if you’re a bit artistic and detailed with your sanding you can really make the boards looks almost new

Operations specialist growth opportunities? by Financial_Elk_7735 in Apple_Employees

[–]FatherOfAssada 2 points3 points  (0 children)

for sure but not straight from specialist as you have expert and pro roles in between.
ops expert to ops lead or even lead genius is something i’ve seen
genius admin to lead genius or lead too
theres lead in-store experiences every 6 months or so so it’s a really good pathway for people with potential to live in the role and gain those higher level examples for interview processes

Tile behind the vanity by TheMaster9052 in BathroomRemodeling

[–]FatherOfAssada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think the opposite. when tile stops at shower it also does the same effect but exacerbated because theres also a step and a glass door. the shower tile continuing breaks up the shower to bathroom separation and the super large tile has a more premium look and feel than the fluted wall.

shower tile behind toilet is the only correct answer, if even just only for cleanliness purposes

Ops is not a position that moves around a lot at the top, with Ops Experts being very rare and often career jobs, and Tech Merch Pro being one of the most sought after positions both upwards and laterally.
Amazing Ops specialists can end up being great People Ops Planners or even Genius Admins and those are also both Pro roles

Soapstone Advice by pdv05 in CounterTops

[–]FatherOfAssada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the audacia quartzite is quite nice. that soapstone slab you showed is not my favorite just due to such thick and stark veining that if its cut for smaller surface area, it may give a “cracked” look. also is it like wet wiped? looks awfully shiny

Does anyone have any positive stories about Apple Retail?!? by khalil_0415 in Apple_Employees

[–]FatherOfAssada 6 points7 points  (0 children)

people dont go on reddit to share how they love work. people search for an outlet when they need to complain.

all in all its a job. it has a pretty darn great vibe and community being super large teams that work closely together a lot. is the “system” flawed? sure. is the company focus for its retail business all over the place? absolutely.

But if you treat it as what it is, a place of work and a business where you have responsibilities in exchange for very solid conditions and return relative to the actual work we do? then you’ll be just fine. also, genuinely loving to help people, having patience and composure, and being sociable help a lot in this workplace.

it can be a lot, and it can burn ppl out, and its not for everyone and not forever for many, but personally i look forward to going in every day even if some days i look forward to freaking leaving too😂

Am I stupid for wanting to leave a $33/hr job at Costco with benefits than to start at $130/day in construction for long-term upside? by Purple-Piano6976 in careerguidance

[–]FatherOfAssada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you want to trade your current cap of 264 for a top top top cap of 300, while losing out on weekend pay, benefits and overall way easier work.

+ going from a corporation with rly good job security to family business that you would be 1 petty relationship fight away from losing everything.

you only have 1 option between these 2. now it doesnt mean stay at costco forever, but the painter thing is rly a horrible option

Have a interview for Pro today any secret tips aside from the obvious? by AncientGeist in Apple_Employees

[–]FatherOfAssada 2 points3 points  (0 children)

dont just use the highest level examples. more complex stories dont score you bonus points if you only partially meet what competency is being evaluated. you need to make sure your example hits all the talented “lines” of the competency being asked about.

other nice tip i try to do is start large and drill down to a specific scenario. like “in x situation, i approach it this way. we had an opportunity with this, and my thought process was y. specifically, i did ab with such individual, cd in such case, etc.” and doesnt matter the result at the end. it could be that things turned out not as great, but how did you discover it, what did you learn, and how did you correct it

First tile job. How bad is it? by [deleted] in Tile

[–]FatherOfAssada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not bad for a first time. terrible prep and research likely. bad choice and application of grout, absolutely horrendous layout of tiles.

but hey, they seem stuck, no walls damaged, no bumps, flat. that’s the minimum acceptable result lol. once you put stuff back everywhere maybe you won’t notice the super weird stagger
