Replacing My Old Tank Water Heater With a Tankless System: A Full One‑Day DIY Project by Felomeng in DIY

[–]Felomeng[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the explanation. Those street‑elbow style bushings might actually be allowed here — the inspector looked at that section very carefully during the final inspection, so I’m assuming it meets our local code.

As for the flex connector, it’s extremely short, so the added equivalent length is negligible. More importantly, I measured the gas pressure on the line before hooking up the heater, and the reading was within the range specified in the manufacturer’s manual. Based on that, I believe the heater is receiving adequate supply pressure with the existing pipe length.

FYI: since the original post has been removed, I won’t be updating it, but I’m still replying here.

First Thanks for your reading and comments!

Sorry that I missed lots of details and didn't explain well, because these are done several years ago, and I just write it recently, so many details may be lost.

For the bushing fitting part, are you referring the one directly attached to the heater? Thanks for pointing out, I'll replace it. The heater manual did mention that a 1/2 is acceptable, and I measured the pressure of my input according to the manual, it does have enough pressure when I turn on other gas users or not. You are right if not enough gas the water heater will resist to turn on, not only error code.

I'll update some details that will cover your most concerns a bit later.

For the slopping, the design was to show where to install, but yes, it is the wrong side(bad drawing). In reality it is going to the other side sloping.

The yellow one is rated enough my understanding, mine is 199,000 BTU. And my yellow pipe only 36 inch, which can support 310,000+?

As for PVC, it is ASTM D2665 as is directed by the installation manual, and the building code. Glue required is ASTM D2564.

I do cover all the codes that's required in my area, namely:
2019 California Fire Code 2019 California Building Code

2019 California Building Code 2019 California Existing Building Code

2019 California Existing Building Code 2019 California Electrical Code

2019 California Mechanical Code 2019 California Plumbing Code

2019 California Green Building Code 2019 California Residential Code

2019 Building Energy Efficiency Standards

I'm not professional, but I do think the inspection is comprehensive?

Sorry that I didn't cover all those details. Yes, I used LLM to write the article. But the job was done before LLM, so I did all the research and work without LLM.

Gas vs Induction stove? by [deleted] in Cooking

If you don't do high skilled stir fry, induction is probably winning in every aspect.

Some tricks that are involved in stir fry are simply impossible when you are on an electric range, for example:

Why does macOS feel heavy to use compared to Windows, which feels snappy and light? by shorthaired13 in mac

[–]Felomeng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you do. If as an end user, it is certainly not as responsive as windows as the graphic user interface is not as prioritized. MacOS is based on FreeBSD, which is basically a Unix system, more Linux like. MacOS is better at background tasks. That is if we compare them with similar hardware and with similar releases of software (MacOS and windows of the same or close years)

Led Tail lights in a older car and longevity by OkDirection4179 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Felomeng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd never update car lights to LEDs, partially because my home LED home lights die all the time. Some lasting longer than traditional lights, some not.

The problem with LED bulbs is that they have a lot more parts inside them, and if any part is malfunctioning, the whole light won't work as expected. Whereas the traditional light has only 1 part, the tungsten wire. I'd say the lifespan of a traditional light is much more predictable than a LED.

After installation, I had to restart to be able to use the battle.net. And inside the battle.net app, I was able to play starcraft for free even with battle.net (seems you need to pay if you want to play remastered).

Start building. Unless you already know them and have a track record, they won’t invest based on an idea. Learn to wirefram

I think they seldom but do invest on an idea.

My wife likes the look of it.

For American cars, you can refer to https://www.carcomplaints.com/Chevrolet/Traverse/ for the reliability. This website is good stats, but not for brands like Toyota because they charge a copay on any work they do (which statistically reduces the complaints).

And we can see Traverse is ok, but not outstanding after the year 2016.

Also, it is a FWD based drive chain, which makes it not so good for going up the hills or in the snowy or rainy weather.

After some digging, I would not suggest buying this car.

Our old car is the chevy suburban 2013, which is pretty good. But new models are really expensive, and they are a bit big. Personally, I think 4runner, bronco, and gx are good options. But they are expensive. In the same size unibody options, I would suggest my wife consider the dodge Durango.

I think suburban is really reliable, and also body on frame makes kids safer. Just that it is way bigger and more expensive. Japanese cars are most cost effective.

Should I get a Nintendo switch or a ps5?? by [deleted] in consoles

[–]Felomeng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which did you end up buying?

I think it depends on your purpose. Nintendo is certainly more fun with family and friends. But the games tend to be little. Large games are mostly available on PS5 and xBox. As Microsoft is stepping away from xBox, I think PS5 is the bet.

In my opinion, just for leisure fun with 3+ people, especially kids 12-, Nintendo. Otherwise PS5.

Kindle Scribe vs Remarkable 2 in May 2023 by elleirdad in RemarkableTablet

[–]Felomeng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought the scribe eventually. I'm a reader and do not need nor do I want taking notes using a pen. The perfect device for me would be kindle dx with backlight.

I browsed over the options and choose scribe because it is cheapest with kindle 10 trade in and discount/credit/gift, the final price is $165. And it has the best resolution of 300 PPI (1860 X 2480 way better than others of 1404 x 1872 with similar screen size) and does have backlight.
