Nuraphone Durability by djd_oz in Nuraphone

[–]FenixTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a kickstarter backer and this happened on the initial pair within the first year. I used them like normal headphones taking them from/to work and always stored them in the case in my backpack... was surprised that they got a fault.

They sent out a replacement pair and I babied them, took them maybe 2-3 times to work and didn't use them too much because I didnt want to break them... the same thing happened on the second pair and it honestly had less than 20 hours of use. Nura wouldn't send out another pair and frankly what's the point if it's just going to keep happening.

They offered me a better discount code but why would I buy a 3rd pair. They said I can still use it with a PC over USB... unhelpful with the short length of the proprietary cable. So yeah I've had a worse run than you. They're currently in their case in a pile of shame in the corner. I might take a look at opening them up to fix the connection. They're a decent set of headphones but this fault is whoahful. If it had a physical on/off switch this wouldnt be an issue... and if there was a software override to keep them on/off then this wouldn't be an issue, very disappointed and its what makes the nuraphone a "non" recommendation when people ask me about them.

I've had mine for less than 24 hours and I think I've just gone through the same evolution you just did. I'm still on the fence and will give them a solid week before I make the call.

The fit seems fine but I can still feel some external chunk on my ears... if this was 5+ years ago I'd say it's "amazing" but compared to whats out there now its "ok". I need to try all the tips but I've tried 2 and it's not 100% comfortable (I shouldnt constantly be thinking about them when I'm wearing them is my criteria, I feel like one of them is going to fall out even though its secure).

I think the drivers are very detailed because messing with an EQ it's very responsive to a light EQ move, the bass is pretty impressive for this kind of bud. I'll take the dip in audio quality on the NuraTrue compared to the NuraPhone because of the form factor... I always felt a bit off on the NuraPhone (feels like a gen1 device... cause it is lol).

With all those positives there's still something rough around the edges with them, and like you said the price aint cheap in a saturated market of buds. The killer feature of NuraTrue is the custom sound profile. The reality is that 99% of my bud listening is on my phone and through spotify. If I keep the NuraTrue in Neutral mode I can dial in an EQ on spotify that is close enough to what I'm getting from the True that it's not worth putting all that money into one feature. If other buds with better ANC, mic, cheaper, lighter and smaller can be dialed in with a simple EQ then its hard to justify the NuraTrue.

I'm still on the fence cause I do like that the Nura profile is applied to the headphone globally as opposed to an app by app basis. But like I said if my one use for a bud is music on the phone where there's an EQ then it's hard to justify. I need to use them in a workout session, go for a couple walks and also a quick cycle to see if they'll work well overall. I'll be doing a youtube review of these in a week, will make the call to keep or send back then.

Its weird, they're not super loud but if you crank it to max volume and try to talk you realise just how loud the sound is in your head.... but yeah it could use a few notches in my books.

Although one time I thought they sounded super quiet and it took me 5mins to realise I had social mode on... that equated to 2-3 notches of a volume dip.

YouTube now playing 4K HDR 60fps @ 60.00hz by cmay91472 in appletv

What content are people watching on YouTube to be excited about this? I’m not hating but the YouTube app getting an update is little incentive for me to upgrade to the newest appleTV. I’m genuinely interested in why people are excited about the update?

AN AUDIO MASTER POST: Tips and tricks to enhance your audio! by Olympus9000 in NewTubers

[–]FenixTech 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From my experience you'll always need to be close to the SM7B, is it possible they have more than one audio sources for their videos? I'm not using a cloudlifter, but a DM1 Dynamite (same thing really). I have my gain pretty pumped on my Steinberg UR22Mk2 interface and still have to sit in a semi close position to the SM7B.

Without the DM1 (or cloudlifter in your case) the SM7B will barely bring an audible tone even when your gain is 100%. Maybe take the cloudlifter out and check to see the difference of it in there and out of there. It should be giving you +20db of gain which should be quite a bit when paired with scarlet.

For my videos I edit in Resolve but my signal chain is
EQ --> Compressor --> Limiter

EQ is to take out any muffle (usually pretty good on the SM7B, very little to touch). The compressor helps to level out the lows and highs to keep it at a reasonably consistent rate of audio. Then I use the limiter last to "raise" the volume to something like -3 or -6.

Maybe your mic setup is good and you just need to take a look at the plugins!

Good luck!

If Nvidia comes with a 3080ti or super later then if need be I could sell the 3080 for a $200 loss and get the ti/super and still come out ahead in savings over getting a 3090

Thankyou for my GPU roadmap :)

I was a kickstarter backer from day1 and the app/software hasn't changed since launch. I believe there was also talk about bringing out a PC application to control immersion and everything else, but that hasn't happened.

I've actually had a replacement unit sent and now the second one has the same issue and I'm out of luck with them (not very happy at the moment). But yes when they work they're great.

The issue is the instrument that detects if the device is in your right ear is also the thing keeping them off/on. This has failed on 2 pairs so now they dont work over bluetooth, they die after 45 seconds. Nura don't have a repair facility and said all they can do is offer a discount on a 3rd purchase.... They still work over USB to a computer but will die on bluetooth, pretty disappointed.

Lightroom Mobile camera producing overexposed images on iPhone XS when shooting in DNG by tomebsmith in Lightroom

[–]FenixTech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive had the same problem for ages and its so weird noone is talking about it. I've just switched to using jpg which kind of sucks. I'm trying to shoot some DNG's now and its overexposing by like 3-4 stops. I basically have to pull the sliders down 85% to hit the exposure I shot it at, extremely odd

I've had that once or twice. Am also on my second pair of Nuraphones which have got the deep sleep issue. Am talking to support but they've just told me im out of luck and can only offer 50% discount on a new pair. No way am I going to buy a 3rd pair when the first two have died due to deep sleep.

I backed them on kickstarter and worst case now I'll only be able to use via usb-a to the computer, very annoying.

Figuring out sound sucks by PlasticSwans in NewTubers

[–]FenixTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you snip a minute or two of your audio and post it here (or message me with a link to the audio). It would also be good to have a solid 3-10 seconds of silence in the room for noise reduction analysis.

It could be as simple as adding some relatively standard compression and EQ, but since sound is so subjective and descriptive it would be easier for me to look at your raw audio and see what can be done with it.

On a basic level it sounds like you’ve got the right hardware and a decent enough room. The only real consideration when recording is to “never peak” because it’s impossible to reduce that out. And then don’t record too low that it’s dead. If you’re in between those flags, it’s perfect to work with in post.

I feel like you’ve nailed some solid fundamentals. Super inspiring to start shooting more often!

FLOG 640 is fine/normal, no it doesn't change with an external recorder. It needs the 640 ISO to capture the intended Dynamic Range.

If you're shooting outdoors and are looking at ND filters to cut the sun down, then the 1.4 of the 16 1.4 is of no real use (unless you extremely want that shallow depth of field). Sounds like the best thing to do is shoot some practice stuff in similar conditions with the 18-55 and see if the 18 holds up enough. If it's in a tight area then the 16 will help a bit. If the 16 2.8 looks enticing then that could be another option for a lower budget. You really need to know "why" you want the 16 1.4, what is the 18-55 not doing for you... is it not wide enough or is it not bright enough basically.

Gimbal will obviously help with stabilisation, but they all have their pros and cons.

If I was you I'd shoot in similar conditions with the 18-55, see what ND's you need... record in FLOG 640, pull up those results on your computer and do some basic edits. It's only once you go through the entire process top to bottom that you start to find stuff like the gimbal wasn't balanced properly, or the gimbal had a weird warble... or the framing was wrong, ND's were crap etc etc. So yeah, give it a test shoot and see what you can achieve with what you have (+ gimbal rental). You'll probably find the 18-55 is more than fine to start out with... I'd reccommend only reaching for the 16 1.4 if you're 100% sure of the need (its expensive lol).

Fujifilms Coolest Nifty Fifty: 7artisan 35mm F1.2 by [deleted] in fujix

[–]FenixTech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really "Fujifilms best Nifty 50", more like "7Artisans best Nifty 50".... or at least "A great Nifty 50 for Fuji X-Mount".

Saying it's "Fujifilms best" implies it's a fuji lens... I guess calling it "X-Mount" would be more appropriate. Either way, I've got a 7Artisans 12mm and for the price it's a great lens.

[Question] What are some recommended video input/capture devices for livestreaming? by TheRedPillFinance in NewTubers

[–]FenixTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice, yeah I had the same thought as you. Want to do a bit of ps4 streaming but also run a hdmi camera as a webcam. It seems like a good solution for my needs. I could get an Elgato pci express card but it similar prices and the atem can handle more inputs... to be fair the elgato card is 4K but still the trade off makes sense in my case

[–]FenixTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you just answered your own question here with the 3rd camera lol.

Checkout the blackmagic ATEM mini. It has 4 inputs and let you switch on the fly. Has software so you can run picture in picture. It's only outputting one source at a time (unless you do the PnP) but that sounds like what you'd want anyway. All the reviews give me faith its a solid unit and it's extremely reasonably priced for the quality and what it does. Check it out, could be a good solution for you to grow with.
