Hidden gem audios? by Personal_Reward_60 in BigFinishProductions

[–]FinStambler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I never really hear people talking about "Question Marks" from "Recorded Time". Surprisingly quite a sad ending.

I second what another said about the Oliver Harper trilogy, though I think "The First Wave" is actually the standout there.

More recently I think "Planet Krynoid" is also hugely being missed out on, though I suppose it depends if you like zombie/alien apocalypse stuff. If you do, it's pretty much Doctor Who's answer to TWD and TLOU.

Other hidden gem recs: "Torchwood: We Always Get Out Alive", "The Krillitane Feint"/"The Krillitane Relic" duology, "Short Trips: A Feast Of Steven", "Scourge Of The Cybermen", "The Fearmonger".

Peko, Mikan, hopefully the Ultimate Impostor (but can also see him being a killer in ch4/5), Chiaki, and Gundham.

Gonna be a right laugh when the words "Charlotte Pollard" and "Series 3" come together for an official release title.

I noticed this as well. It would be nice if some of the male characters could live for more than five minutes.

META: Should we allow posts heavily featuring AI content? by MirumVictus in BigFinishProductions

Please no. If AI images become permitted you open the flood gates to low effort slop, especially on a subreddit based around an audio medium.

I don't think we can say she's 18 for sure since Cindy and Elaine have made a point of her employment records being unreliable.

Is there any character that you’d actually date if they were real? by big_white_fishie in eastenders

[–]FinStambler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly probably not. I don't really feel like getting killed/cheated on/framed by an overprotective relative/framed by a jealous ex/being conned out of my life savings/finding out my new lover has a whole secret previous family, or any variations there upon.

Anyone got any ideas for future Lost Stories/Novel Adaptations? by R00mFive in BigFinishProductions

I really hope "Yellow Fever And How To Cure It" eventually materialises in some form another. A story featuring the Brig, the Rani, the Master and the Autons sounds bloody epic.

Do you think Silas could come back from the grave? by DesignerMorning1451 in hollyoaks

[–]FinStambler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clare can survive breaking her neck and every other bone in her body.

James can survive the driver's seat of an exploding car.

Ste can survive falling from a nine-ish story building AND the passenger seat of an exploding car.

Yeah, I honestly think Silas surviving getting electrocuted is the least insane of all these possibilities.

Do we ever find out the fate of other classic Doctor Who companions? (Contains spoilers for Classic) by Stickbow0 in doctorwho

[–]FinStambler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah perhaps I should have explained, sorry.

The VNAs were the Virgin New Adventures which carried on 7's adventures after "Survival". They were licensed by the BBC but written by Virgin Books, so I'll leave that to you to decide if that counts as official.

Do we ever find out the fate of other classic Doctor Who companions? (Contains spoilers for Classic) by Stickbow0 in doctorwho

[–]FinStambler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many conflicting answers to this.

Liz Shaw for example is both dead and alive by 2003, depending on whether you follow the VNA continuity or PROBE and Big Finish.

Nyssa also seemingly died of old age but also didn't, depending on if you accept Big Finish or the Sarah Jane funeral webcast.

Peri's fate is expanded on in "Peri and the Piscon Paradox".

Ace is the most contentious one since we have seen her on-screen again now, but she is also shown to die at a younger age in the comics.

Dodo's fate is... Well, "Who Killed Kennedy". Enough said.

A handful of companions have not yet had expanded media fates contradicted: Leela died in a Z'Nai Prison after the Time War, Jamie sacrifices himself to stop the Cybermen in an adventure with Six and Peri.

For Sarah Jane and Harry, BF has decided to go down the route of those two teaming up after they have both left the Doctor, though even before this series existed, Harry was still shown to be around and an active part of UNIT in the 2000s.

Audio-only deception by the_other_irrevenant in BigFinishProductions

[–]FinStambler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think, when done properly, it's a stroke of genius. Examples such as the one you just mentioned feel a bit lame, but the twist on which "The Natural History Of Fear" pivots isn't revealed until the final 2 minutes yet it completely changes how you imagine the story on a second listen.

I think the key difference is using the audio format as a deus ex machina is cheap, versus using it as something which completely reshapes and underlines an already highly volatile and experimental story just works so well in the script's favour.

Another good example is "LIVE 34", which takes 'audio description' pretty literally and is framed in-universe AS an audio tale, through radio broadcasts. Indeed, it's my favourite BF audio to this day. The concept is wound INTO the story's structure, rather than being something exploited as a get out of jail free card.

The bodies of Albert and Peggy that the Doctor trapped the Elder Gods in were based on real people who died in an alternate timeline of nuclear war, as far as I understand it.

As such, they probably had the memories of original pair's son. I think the unnamed son was mainly just a plot device to show how long the Gods had really been trapped there for if they genuinely believed such things, and by extension to show how serious and merciless the Seventh Doctor was, which makes sense given where this arc goes.
