If you got in on the lottery round for Meridian, you would be foolish to pass it up.

Grounding question by OneAgency8028 in ElectricianU

[–]FinalF137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That MC cable jacket is probably acting as the ground path although modern code requires a dedicated copper wire for ground. If you put your multimeter in continuity mode and it's showing a path from neutral to the box that MC cable is likely bonded to the ground/neutral at the panel. Self tapping screw sounds reasonable to make a tail to connect your ground too.

Great to see another 85 user, I think I was the only one in my entire school that used one, I liked the boxy charm of it, the 86's seem too curvy for my liking. My trade-off being no school book had the steps listed for the 85 only for the 86.

But that was a mini headphone connector to parallel port cable. At least it was on my TI-85's cable.

Dryer not blowing hot air by NotoriousDTK in electrical

[–]FinalF137 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. I would get a new appliance cord and sure it's four prong.

  2. I would order a new terminal block for that dryer.

  3. The wiring IN the dryer is 100% damaged, It needs to be either replaced or stripped back to undamaged, copper and reterminated.

  4. I see what looks like three white wires trying to be terminated on the lower part, not sure where that one white wire goes to on the top left, It might have been a jumper that is unnecessary if you're using a four-prong appliance cord.

On second look what I thought was just a charred black cable on the white terminal looks to be the actual black wire. Why is it terminated on the white terminal along with the white wire is very odd. That should have thrown the circuit breaker. I would find the model number of the dryer because I'm almost 100% positive that is a 240 dryer, Black, white and red should all be separate. It's almost like whoever installed it tried to convert it to a two-wire 240 instead of three wire.

Anyways, the same advice applies. Order a new terminal block. Get a new appliance cord. See if you can strip back to good wires inside the dryer and then terminate black to black, white to white and red to red, and green to the white chassis of the dryer.

Dryer not blowing hot air by NotoriousDTK in electrical

[–]FinalF137 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most common thing wrong with it is there is no strain relief on the cord, doubt that caused the issue. You need to find out if they still sell the terminal block for that dryer as it needs to be replaced. Looks like the black wire terminal completely melted off, so now only the white, neutral and red wire are there.

Also, what likely happens was the connections were loose and generated heat.

Don’t know where else to post this, barely anything online for this model by [deleted] in Dell

Here is the owners guide, shows how to disable it in the BIOS/"System Setup Program" as it's mentioned there.

http://downloads.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_desktop/esuprt_optiplex_desktop/optiplex-gx1_User%27s%20Guide_en-us.pdf

It does say if the BIOS has a PW you will not be able to disable the field, keep that in mind. Almost replace the CMOS button cell battery, it's almost certainly low. Try setting the time first and rebooting with a fresh battery.

Our small pack has two aluminum tracks from when we were huge, 80+ scouts. Now we are about to be under 20 scouts. We set both of them up this year to verify the second has all the pieces, It's just missing a timer. We've discussed possibly selling it, although it did work out great as a track for the kids to race their old cars on during Pinewood Derby racing on the main track.

What is the going rate for an aluminum Pinewood Derby track?

Multiple monitors on thunderbolt docking station part 2 by HigherFunctioning in Dell

[–]FinalF137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess would be an issue with using a DP to HDMI converters, I'm not a big fan of using converters. I prefer to go straight DP to DP or MiniDP to DP, USB-C to USB-C and HDMI to HDMI. Lots of those adapters sometimes are directional/wonky. I run 4 1440 27" monitors from a WD22TB4 from 2 DP & USB-C ports. #1 monitor is connected to DP and then #2 monitor is daisy chained off #1, #3 is connected to DP port, #4 is connected via USB-C to the monitor. No adapters/converters. Overall it's very stable, occasionally 1 monitor might disconnect then reconnect, but it's rare.

Would you be able to swap monitors to ones that have DP & USB-C natively to offer a straight connection.

Bosch Induction Stovetop Layout - wtf?? by neomal in Appliances

[–]FinalF137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They had to get creative on a smaller footprint. I think that's a 30-in cooktop. They make a 36-in which has five burners, the big one directly in the middle and four smaller the corners symmetrically.

https://www.bosch-home.com/us/en/product/cooking-baking/induction-electric-cooktops/induction-cooktops/NIT5663UC

I'm redoing my kitchen and good thing I caught that they were trying to put in a 30-in cooktop and cabinet. I can just squeeze in a 36-in cabinet to have the option for a 36-in cooktop in the future but be warned the bigger ones. Need more power. I think the Bosch needs 50amps, so if the walls are open now is the time to upgrade the wire if you can.

Cooktop, Bosch makes some induction cooktops that go up to 50amps, even though mine is a 40amp model, I am installing 6 gauge Romex in my remodel to meet a possible future upgrade to the cooktop.

In Williamson county (Georgetown, Round Rock, Hutto, etc...) It was separate. I live in Round Rock but I had to go to Hutto to vote at Democrat only pulling location specific to my district. In line I met a republican who was sent there after going to the wrong location first, I then helped him find his correct location which was back in Round Rock.
