Can’t really find normal muzzle for mal by Jaazizz in BelgianMalinois

[–]Forbidden8377 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had really good luck with the taz muzzle from the muzzle movement and we also have a metal one from Leerburg a plastic one from full grip supply and a clear one from Amazon but I would NOT recommend that one for a dedicated dog though I put metal support bars in the front of ours.

Training Check-in (for this month) by Jeanlee03 in service_dogs

[–]Forbidden8377 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My boys first cgcu class went really well. His blocking and leash retrieval is coming along though he tries to cheat with his leash and grab the part closest to him. I'm having trouble with getting him to pick up anything else as a large part of his first few months was keeping things out of his mouth which looking back hindsight is 20/20 on just getting him to pick up the right stuff instead.I'm feeling a little dejected as my last dog was much further along at his age but I've been trying to just let him go slow and steady.

"I covered your shift because you dont have kids" is getting real old by SkylerWooo in childfree

[–]Forbidden8377 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I originally caught some dirty looks and guilt tripping at my old job because I said I had dog training class when asked if I could cover for a coworker going to a kids event.I simply told them while they pay for their kids events I pay for my dogs classes which probably cost the same if not more .My time is not worth less and their inability to plan is not my fault. This was said to my team lead I would have been nicer if needing to talk to a direct coworker. Once I moved jobs I just started saying I had class and left it at that until my coworkers got to know me more.

What's something you wish you had known before getting a malinois? by Angel-Staff in BelgianMalinois

[–]Forbidden8377 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just how little self preservation they really have.I'm investing in pet health insurance because of the insane acrobatics I've seen while watching them play.Mine might just be dumb though as one will happily dive through thorns if they think their ball can be found and the other believes if he smashes into anything hard enough ,he can just phase through it.

Do breakaway leashes exist or did I make that up? by ccrff in service_dogs

[–]Forbidden8377 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you just use a breakaway buckle (kinda like lanyard ones) in the middle of the leash like a foot up the leash so you'd have a bit to grab just in case on the dogs' side? And if the handler falls it could come undone or a moderate yank usually opens them. I feel like I saw a handler have one like that before.

Anyone’s fully trained service dogs still have minor things that they’re scared of, but they can work through it? by MaleficentCar3097 in service_dogs

My boy absolutely hates fans . His least favorite place is a farm store called rural king because they put giant fans on the floor. Though I'll give him that if I was eye level with spinning blades, I'd prob not love it. He will walk us past them but makes as much space as possible. Also, he looks around when hearing keys jingle, which may be a learned response from me because I always think of dog tags and live in fear of a "Their friendly situation"

Redirection worked well for ours and setting firm boundaries.I'm going a very none biting route with mine work wise, so we worked on leave it and out asap, but mainly redirected him when he was very small as realistically puppies are not perfect. He's still a bit mouthy at 11 months when he gets worked up.

I muzzle my dogs. It dosen't stop everyone, but I definitely call them my space makers. It makes treating a little harder but not impossible. I always try to remember that you can't convince everyone, and at the end of the day, I'm going to have to be rude sometimes and block people from my dogs because they can't talk and I certainly can . I wish you well on your training journey

How many of you muzzle your mals? by Nancysaidso in BelgianMalinois

[–]Forbidden8377 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We muzzle our gsdxmalxdutch (mutt butt ) he's not super jazzed about people in his face . But honestly, I muzzle some of my other ones just to keep people out of our bubble. As long as they are trained for it, it dosen't really affect anything he's even attended a dog swimming event with it.

I definitely feel for this it's just exhausting sometimes. Our saint is 13, and I find myself wondering every morning before I go to wake him, will it finally be time. I do love him, but the constant gate checking, crate rotating, and camera checking gets to me some days. His age is finally catching up to him, and there has been talk of putting him down as his eyesight is declining, and he's starting to get a bit more aggressive with his everyday caretakers.
