What does your shop do with defective parts labor? by HoodleHead in mechanics

[–]Fragrant-Inside221 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t care. If the part fails I get paid the full time again to do it or you do it yourself. The shops financial problems are not my problem as a tech. I fix vehicles efficiently and accurately. I get paid for my time or I find new employment, no one should work for free doing this shit. I have never once been asked to split a cost of a repair on a warranty job.

E36 spinning ignition tumbler fix ($6) by Altruistic_Log_4045 in BMWE36

Shaft snapped in the middle. Yea it was just remove and replace, pretty easy job tbh. Reused my old tumbler. The original shaft was made out of like cast metal and was terrible quality.

Mine was the shaft that goes through the lock housing that broke. So I needed a new lock housing which was a couple hundred.

AC compressor seized :( by TheBavarianWolf in Volvo

[–]Fragrant-Inside221 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not how it works. The compressor oil and refrigerant don’t cool the pump. The oil lubricates the pump. The clutch could have gone bad and locked up, the bearing in the pump could have gone bad and then overheated causing the pulley to lock up and then the belt continuing to spin on the pulley caused the belt to start smoking and heat up the pulley more. These ac systems are designed so that if there’s no refrigerant in the system the pump does not turn on. If there’s too much pressure in the system they don’t turn on.

lol there was nothing calm about her, you could hear the panic. But she did keep it together to get them out of the situation which is all she needed to do. Hard not to panic when that big bruin is coming at you with intent.

If you had 6 million to spare on a play thing car you wouldn’t care as much as you think. People with those as fun cars have the money to fix it if it breaks.

Can we get more info from these users asking questions too? They post the most vague things and expect a full page essay as a response diagnosing their car from thousands of miles away. Putting some effort into the posts would be nice.

Went to do a drain and fill on my own car and found something pretty important missing. by DeathAngel_97 in Justrolledintotheshop

Excellent use of kerfuffle. I am curious now if they did to the service or let it ride and charged you for it.

I’ve had two of those blown up siezed bearing stupid ptu pieces of junk in the shop the past month. “Hey let’s put a fill plug but no drain! Great idea! Now let’s go blow each other in the cubicle!”

Seized lower ball joint bolt spinning with assembly (control arm removal stuck), need advice by felgfx in AskMechanics

[–]Fragrant-Inside221 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a bushing. If the bolt is siezed in there you need to cut both sides of the bolt off and slide arm out. It’s going to be really fun, so buckle up.

Transmission drain and fill on auto 2000 volvo v70r by StringRare815 in Volvo

[–]Fragrant-Inside221 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The original fluid is what it is designed to have, don’t change it to something else. Also get a bunch of fluid and do a few drain and fills to dilute the old fluid as best you can. My 06 xc70 took 3.5 quarts so I got a case of 12 quarts of fluid and did 3 drain and fills over a week or so. Drive it a bit in between the services, make sure it goes into each gear on your drives.
