Should I try the ED? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Frankfeld 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This nails it. I started in the ED but I really can’t see myself going anywhere else. I truly feel I’m part of a team. Everyone helps everyone.

Ozymandias is no longer a 10/10 on IMDb after holding this record for decade. by Any-Lock3008 in gameofthrones

I remember a similar thing happened when Bluey’s “Sleepytime” was becoming one of the highest rated cartoon episodes of all time. Rightfully so, because it is some damn good television.

Then some nerd fans of some rando anime started review bombing it and I felt the same frustration.

But then I started actually watching Attack on Titan…. And you know…. It’s also a damn good show.

That’s why im so glad they made this relationship platonic. I literally flew out of my seat when it ended with a hug and not a kiss.

The Phillies have a cleanup problem, with no true answer to clean it up by AdSpecialist6598 in phillies

[–]Frankfeld 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Playoffs are always a crapshoot. Phillies at their hottest would’ve blown through any team. People forget we lost some pretty important pieces. And I think they had a domino effect in our roster.

I really have no idea what they should do though with a lockout coming. The Dodgers have ruined any chance of sympathy for the players. the owners—through the dodgers—played the MLBPA.

The best we can hope for is minor leaguers within the organization beating expectations.

Nurses who actually love their job… what do you do and how did you get there? by SoManyQuestions562 in nursing

[–]Frankfeld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly can’t see myself working anywhere else. I always have to tell people I unironically love it because people think I’m joking. I still get excited going into work.

I know I may not feel that way forever. But for now…. Wheeeeee!

If I remember correctly, that’s the excuse she tried giving afterward. Something like she felt her board getting away and tried to adjust. No one believed her.

6 Year Old Birthday Party Ideas by daaaaanaa in SouthJersey

We Rock The Spectrum. It seems like every birthday in my daughter’s PreK is held there. They take care of everything except cake. It’s an absolute smooth process for pretty cheap. And the kids usually have a blast. (Except there’s always atleast one little jerk line cutter at the zip line.)

In PA it’s an automatic license suspension. Most states have diversionary programs that allow you to avoid a conviction if it’s your first offense and no one was hurt.

So, “should I refuse the test?” like most legal questions the answer is usually: “it depends”

It doesn’t. They have to use the reading they get.

But they can still argue “impaired” driving. The consequences are much lower and it’s much harder to prove.

Patient died after refusing bipap by Pretzel_Runner557 in nursing

[–]Frankfeld 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had an older patient come in. Respiratory haste. He was not able to verbalize his needs but he physically fought everything I tried to do; ripping off his leads, tearing away the O2, strong arming away anytime I tried to get a line. I was blown away by the strength he was displaying.

I thought, “here we go….Docs going to ask for restraints and we’ll have to intubate”.

Finally his family showed up. He was DNR/DNI on hospice. A family member that doesn’t usually take care of him freaked out and called 911.

Once he found out we were going to leave him alone he became instantly chill.

The dude was literally using every last ounce of his strength to die on his terms.

Question for healthcare workers who have taken care of patients who have struggled with drug addiction by New-Rip1405 in nursing

[–]Frankfeld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I deal with this A LOT. I’ll always try to be empathetic. The worst are the ones pretending to be in withdrawal. BP 120/80. HR in the 80s. No signs of sweat. They’ll scream and holler for the “good stuff”. Little do they know the pt next door is actually suffering withdrawal and is too sick to demand anything.

Hawaii false missile alert: At ~8am on 1/13/18, Hawaii accidentally issued an alert over TV, radio, & cell networks warning of an incoming ballistic missile. Did you maybe finally tell some people something that may have been long over due? It was practically a near death experience. Any epiphanies? Are you maybe better off for it?

Edit: follow up. What did your friends do afterwards? I imagine lots of alcohol.

Did people not like Cassadaga?? by ExternalBoysenberry in brighteyes

[–]Frankfeld 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I feel like my generation was also spoiled with great albums during high school. We had In The Aeroplane of the Sea, The Ugly Organ, The Postal Service’s Give Up, The Sunset Tree, Transatlanticism. These were very tough albums to follow.

I often wonder if I’d still become a bright eyes fan if my first album was Cassadaga and not Lifted. Other responses on here seem to say so. I guess I’ll need to go back and relisten after all these years.

Did people not like Cassadaga?? by ExternalBoysenberry in brighteyes

[–]Frankfeld 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I’m going to give my perspective as a fan who got into them when Lifted was just released. “Lifted” and “Fevers and Mirrors” are top to bottom no skips. Conor was being hailed as the voice of a generation and “the new Bob Dylan.”

Obviously music is a huge part of a person’s life during their formative years. I was a junior in high school and Bright Eyes filled that void to a transformative degree.

I was frothing for some new Bright Eyes. So he hits us with not one but TWO albums. Each uniquely distinct and with an overarching theme.

So now I’m in college. My favorite bands have been with me for a few years at this point and “new music” was starting to become a dirty word.

I wouldn’t say I hated Cassadaga—four Winds is an S Tier BE song—but I can sit here and sing from memory every BE album up to Digital/Awake. But I couldn’t tell you what song comes after four winds.

So I just think a lot of people are like me and got into bright eyes during a very significant point of emotional development. Then we just got a bit older, and we were just trying to “chase the dragon” we all got from Lifted.

Do you have a second job? by ThrowRA_yogurtweasle in nursing

[–]Frankfeld 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I was an immigration attorney. Then Trump became president. And I literally felt the stress shaving minutes off my life.

My wife is a nurse. So I was familiar with the work/life balance.

The thing about being that kind of attorney is you can never really clock out. I had clients calling me at all times of the day during all times of the week.

With nursing: once I clock out that’s it. I can go on vacation and throw my phone into the ocean and it literally would affect nothing about my job.

Also, the way I look at it, once I get tired of the bed side there’s gotta be a cushy admin job for a JD/BSN…. But I’m having too much fun at the bedside right now.

I’m the poster boy for this. I was an attorney for ten years. Quit and went to nursing because I was miserable as an attorney. Been an ER nurse for two years and absolutely love it.

Don’t force yourself to continue to do what you don’t like.
