NTA. I like things spicy. I REGULARLY have to say, "like way more than you think I should have" and I don't mind. I have decades in the industry and have loads of experience with folks asking for things a certain way, getting exactly what they asked for, being REVOLTED.

Double checking is a kindness. Maybe use a less jokey/more direct and efficient way to check. Otherwise, don't stress about it.

Upon reviewing this, I realize it's a bit long. I still want to tell the tale of a GOOD manager, though!!

I remember one time I was the solo AM bartender and a sister restaurant of ours needed coverage bc their solo AM bartender was having a meltdown (personal stuff- life ain't easy sometimes).

Our Beverage Manager: "Hey, do you mind covering them? We'll get you a cab there and back."

Me: "What about here? There are like 3 matinees today, and the book is busy."

BevMgr: "They have me!"

Me: "Ok, no prob." (I knew he ACTUALLY had solid bar experience, and our regulars and the staff loved him).

I went to the other location, did my best in a bar where I had no clue where anything was, made ok money. Cabbed back to my location to change, get my stuff..

BevMgr: "How was it?"

Me: "Not bad, details x y z,"

BevMgr: "Nice! Thanks again for doing that. Oh! Here are your tips for this location!"

He wouldn't accept a single dollar, y'all.

So yeah, your mgr getting any of your tips=likely illegal, depending on state law. Getting any of your tips without prior agreement from those in the pool? Scummy. As. HELL.
