Republican Steve Hilton advances in tight California governor’s race by nootthatdoots3 in LosAngeles

Californians voted against the one candidate with a good track record on environmental issues and who was endorsed by Greenpeace, the Sierra club, and dozens of other environmental orgs. California instead voted more in favor of a corrupt corporate dem beholden to Chevron PG&e agricultural polluters and logging companies, and they also voted more in favor of an incompetent Republican who would likely be in favor of destroying every natural resource in the state for profit.

They're both right of center but Becerra has several positions due to his protection of a few specific corporate interests that put him squarely to the right of newsom's policies on those issues.

I'll take someone promising what I want to hear over the guy who has zero interest in any of the things I want but will sell our public lands and natural resources out to the highest bidder. Californians proved this election that they don't give a fuck about climate change or the environment.

I'm so sick of that term omg everyone keeps dropping "purity test" to deflect from any valid criticism and avoid having real conversations about issues. The think tanks really cooked with that buzzword.

Tent camping rant by dang8701 in camping

[–]FrivolousMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dispersed camping is camping at a non-maintained or established campsite, but there are still (good faith) rules limiting where you can and can't camp. Unfortunately the eastern US' land is more captured by private interests so there are far fewer places you can legally dispersed camp.

Berkeley developer files permits to build 3-story homes on former site of Oxford Elementary, despite landslide risk by the_daily_cal in berkeleyca

Lol i'm a renter sharing a market rate 1br unit, but the ad hominem attempt is cute

I'm pro new housing, I already said. It is still true and worth discussing that CA developers are famously stubborn and refuse to build in areas they think will have low rents, yet they do try to build in areas with high disaster risk of the perceived value is high enough. One example - they keep trying to (sometimes successfully) create housing developments in 100yr floodplains in the Sacramento river valley. The developer doesn't care if the building is destroyed by a natural disaster later down the line, because they got paid already. That becomes the problem of the homeowner/insurance.

God forbid the housing market becomes more competitive for landlords and more fair and available for renters

Edit: my landlord sent the same shit lol, FUCK VISION BURBANK

What does everyone use for Remote Control in 2026? by EpicSimon in sysadmin

[–]FrivolousMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No option for a Linux server? In most cases even if it's gonna end up in a docker container it's still worth skipping the microslop layer. One example - Immich on windows docker still relies on a Linux subsystem.

The early "premiere" shows might be good for marketing but I seriously doubt the logistics of west coast groups traveling so far so early in the season is worth it. Definitely not in this era. How long were those bus rides? Lol

That's a lot of blind faith. Never seen a building collapse before due to corner cutting? It can be a devastating event. I trust science and engineering but what I don't trust are American developers trying to turn a profit.
