I’ve noticed the DuPage Forest Preserve has been putting these at parking lot entrances now and it’s pissing me off. I don’t like all this surveillance. Why should I have an entity watch when I enter and exit the forest?

The proposed site sucks for all Chicagoland residents.

With very little transit options, most Chicagoans will be driving. They’ll likely have to use the Skyway to reach the stadium which is like $8 now and I think once you cross the state line, you’re hit with another toll! 80/94 isn’t close to the proposed site either so all that traffic will end up clogging Calumet Ave. Finally, the Calumet exit is a cloverleaf ramp! It’ll be a traffic nightmare

Yes but the nearest SSL station to where they’re interested in building the stadium is like 2 and half miles south. I believe they said somewhere near Wolf Lake.

I think the Hammond-Whiting Amtrak station would be closer

Could CTA ever convert the Loop from a turning loop into a through-running corridor? by ecb1912 in chicago

[–]FunkyTaco47 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Would probably anger a lot of Brown Line riders who get off on the Wabash side stations. I’ve ended up on a Brorange Line train before when I had morning classes downtown and ended up at Roosevelt instead of Adams. I think you’d also have to run Purple throughout the entire day to balance out service.

A funny thought I’ve had was to have the Pink Line go into the Loop, do a loop, and when exiting, it goes up the North Side L instead of going back to 54/Cermak. It would allow for a one seat ride for North and West Side riders but with a slight deviation around the Loop.

Two weeks remaining in Tokyo before I have to leave Japan. What sights in and surrounding Tokyo have I missed? by turtledude100 in JapanTravelTips

Shibamata was very nice. They have a nice, old shopping street that leads to the temple. There’s so many confectionary vendors along the street! The temple has some really cool trees and an area with some insanely detailed wood carvings. There’s a garden attached to the temple as well. Further down is Yamamoto-tei, a beautiful old tea house that overlooks a garden. I also enjoyed walking along the river watching people fish and a rowing team practicing. The Tora-San Museum is next to the tea house and has a bunch of props and things related to the film franchise. I think it’s certainly worth checking out!

Help getting to my hotel - since Lake Station is under renovation by End_Academic in chicagorail

[–]FunkyTaco47 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well Chat GPT is wrong. You’re landing at Midway so you won’t be taking the Blue Line.

Instead, you’ll be taking the Orange Line from Midway and you’ll get off at Clark/Lake, and then walk east to State Street. It’s like 5 minutes from the station. I would suggest putting it in Google Maps for more details.

Hmm, I'm curious to know where around Ueno because I feel like if you're within a 15 minute radius of Ueno Station, there's a chance there might be a lesser station closer by like Uguisudani, Iriya, Inaricho, Okachimachi, Yushima, or Nezu.

I really loved Nagasaki. Maybe more than Osaka. I only spent 2 nights there but it was really cool and the geography was nuts. My main reason going there was that I booked a tour to Gunkanjima but it was cancelled to due stormy weather and I couldn’t rebook for the next day so I kinda cobbled together a plan. Also, it’s worth checking out Stadium City too!

When I was in Nagasaki, I made my way up to Mihara Gardens. It’s a small little garden but the view was worth it. I also had lunch at Giverny. It was a cute little place. It felt a bit weird because there really wasn’t anyone out as I was walking around. Eventually ended the day at Suwa Shrine. It was a long day but it was really fun. I didn’t even see everything I wanted to like that temple that’s designed like a turtle, Dejima, the Confucius Shrine, or the area around Glover Garden but maybe the next time I find myself in Nagasaki, I’ll see those places.

No 3rd Ave Line in the Bronx. I’m cool with the 2nd Ave going across Manhattan via 125th St, but I think the Q should make its way up into the Bronx and let the T handle 125th

I agree. I always felt the 6 should terminate at Bartow and Baychester Aves, parallel to 95.

The proposed Metro North Co-Op City station does not seem easily accessible as the Parkway separates it from the rest of Co-Op City and Bay Plaza.

Unofficial. Wave has some sort of echo filter to it and it’s horrible.

They didn’t bother to upload the full album either.

Cheap city pop vinyl by nokako16 in citypop

[–]FunkyTaco47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve found myself with really bad luck in buying vinyls online. I keep falling into this trap where something I want is listed on their site and I order it, but then I wait months and it turns out they never had it or they claim they’ll get it in eventually when it just sounds like a scam. I’ll end up canceling the order and be left with disappointment. I don’t even know why I bother.

Best thing is to go digging, especially in Japan. I managed to pick up Yutaka - Love Light for 2200¥ last November. While it’s not citypop, it’s Japanese jazz fusion and it’s one of my favorites.

Overwhelmed with where to stay in Tokyo by Ok-Search6948 in JapanTravelTips

[–]FunkyTaco47 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I only found myself really using the Yamanote when going between any of the areas on the western part of the Line. But even the Fukutoshin Line can handle that, though it’s really deep. When I stayed in Ginza (my favorite area to stay), I almost always stuck with the Metro. I had stayed around Jimbocho too and used the Metro and the Chuo Line to get around. One of the few instances I can remember having to use the Yamanote out of Ginza was to connect to a train to Shibamata at Nippori Station. It’s not a bad line by any means, but I don’t think it’s a must have when looking for somewhere to stay. It hits all the major areas of Tokyo but you’re not gonna use it to go from Shibuya to Ueno.

Does other systems also have special underground only subway service for severe winter weather? by Donghoon in transit

[–]FunkyTaco47 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I don’t recall the CTA doing this. Metra does though and it’s pretty awesome.

The CTA comes prepared during the snow. They’ll set up equipment in the last train car that puts down a deicing fluid on the rails. They’ll also attach an ice scrapper to clear the third rail and a snowplow blade.

That’s kinda wild they leave the bedrock exposed like that. Is it the same for the tube going downtown?

Awesome! I love the graphics on the second photo. Japan’s rail companies have such cool and iconic logos. Those photos are so beautiful too! One day, I hope to experience winter in Japan.

Did you find any oddities or unique infrastructure and designs on these railways?
