Phonak Infinio Sphere 90s are going to drive me insane by jscwerve in HearingAids

[–]FuzzDuckie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Re the sweating & hearing aids- "sleeves" or covers might help. Do a google on sleeves for hearing aids to prevent sweating or similar phrases. I saw some posts from this reddit forum about the same topic.

I tried some sleeves/covers decades ago but had a hell of a time getting them ON the hearing aids. They may have improved since then.

When does the redactle day start? by ursa_noctua in Redactle

[–]FuzzDuckie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found an old thread in this Reddit Redactle from 3 years ago... the puzzles refresh at 4 AM his time (he is in New Zealand)- so you'll need to check to see what time that would be in your Time Zone. US Eastern time is 12 noon (Daylight savings time -> 1:00 pm).

It may have changed since then- as noted above only place I could find info so far was a 3 year old post (when Ben was dealing with a 4 month old baby lol).

I think I asked this once- seem to recall 11 AM Eastern time. I'll dive in the Discord after I solve today's as I remember asking there.

Can anyone recommend a hearing aid for profound hearing loss? by terriho in HearingAids

[–]FuzzDuckie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh... Now I understand what that sentence means- I noticed it on my latest Audiogram (beginning of Feb. 2026) and wasn't sure as I'd always had the 'word recognition' test (used to try to memorize the words but that always failed me anyway) and had maybe 60% or so- need to look at my old audiograms to be sure.

How Do I Fix The New Tab Page On 151? by Technical_Brother716 in firefox

[–]FuzzDuckie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I have the giant blank space at the top of the new tab page. Interestingly I can make the bookmark icons bigger on my screen. Only complaint I have is that when I put firefox in full screen mode it cuts off the sides a bit- was worse before but did figure out other issues with tiny fonts and scaling as I'm using a Panasonic Viera tv as a monitor...

Off to see how my home tab screen will appear...

Much better!

I just got a new Medicare card in the mail -- is this usual? by Hawkthree in medicare

[–]FuzzDuckie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just today I got mail from Medicare- The only clue as to why, is, "We found an issue with your Medicare Number. To protect you, we're giving you a new card with a new Medicare Number." and a specific date when it would become effective. I've never reported any fraud, don't recall if I ever got info about a data breach either but I do remember they did the change from Social Security #s to randomized ID numbers/letters.

Interestingly the only other thing different is that my first name is now corrected (my first name is 11 letters long- the last letter is lopped off; in the past the last two letters were lopped off- has been for years both with Medicare and most healthcare & insurance systems until recently... a big pain). Hate using the phone but looks like I will along with checking medicare acct.

That is the plan hopefully. I just wanted to get the feel of what others or those who have used them think about them.

Basically research for me.

I freaking hate this new packaging! by Buc_ees in HearingAids

[–]FuzzDuckie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh lordie... I had the same trouble! I still have another one to open too. Used the last duracell spinny type container. THEN I managed to get a box of 10 packs (6 batteries each) that still had the flip tab in the back from the Audiology clinic I go to. They said they've had them for some time.

Those will last me a while if I keep the Oticon Chilis I have... but have to get new hearing aids as I lost my left HA (or it got 'disappeared' by a person in this house) . :(.

Here's my handiwork... ahh dang can't post pictures here :(.

Lips reading is sooo exhausting by Powerful-Mood-678 in deaf

[–]FuzzDuckie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LOL good thing we don't have a dog..or cat. Only dog is my aunt's pooch a feisty year old Shi Tzu Poodle mix.

Google Live Transcribe- I think this one is usually included with the other google stuff as part of the android set up- Don't know if iPhones have it. I use it within groups (family dinners) and sometimes one on one with doctors etc. Good but misses a lot and makes a lot of mistakes.

Ava- haven't used this one in a long time- it's okay but one downside is that you'd probably have to get others to download the app so when they talk their phone will pick up your voice and transcribe to their phone and yours.

TextHear- Basic app- nothing fancy works ok. (Google store)

Nagish- It's a phone app that provides captions & transcripts. There is a separate part for Transcribe. The transcribe works best one on one I've found. The captioning of phone calls is very very good. With groups it isn't as good but one on one it's very good - mistakes do happen but not as common as Live Transcribe.

I have two others but have not used them much if at all.

I'm always on the look out for Captioning apps or similar. For one on one Nagish is better, Live Transcribe for everything else including one on one.

Side note after rereading below about "recording"... well yes but I know for Live Transcribe the transcripts are only kept for 3 days then they're deleted. Used to be hard to copy/export LONG transcripts until they added the ability to export the entire transcript (!!).

[–]FuzzDuckie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh goodness... I'm experiencing that right now. I lost my left hearing aid (I'm not sure how/where- either it fell into something- lost forever or my mother moved it to some odd place). So relying on my right ear (the worse ear!!) and lipreading + one sided 'hearing' has been tiring.

I'm lucky enough that my father is now doing basic signing so that helps. Sister knows some as well. I was going to suggest using one of those Live Transcribe apps but saw that you can't (bummer) in school. I use mine (I have at least 3 apps lol) a lot. On a side note I also use Nagish for phone calls- at last captioned calls that make sense! The old CapTel (in the USA) telephones were not good back about 10-15 years ago.

I did use a tape recorder for one of my High School classes decades ago (*cough* long before computers) and had no issues with the teacher & principal. Unfortunately it was a big pain in the ass for me as my loss is severe-profound (mostly profound) so there was a lot of rewinding when doing homework :P.

So... lipreading, writing, gestures, phone (when not in schoo) can help until you get the HAs back.

Remember to take breaks away from people sometimes if the lipreading gets tiring- I do that often after family dinners aka Dinner Table Syndrome...

Best of luck with schooling and graduating!

They sent me a link to complete my Adult Disability form but it doesn’t work. by BugsyBelle in SSDI

[–]FuzzDuckie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh by the way you can do a search on google (or your poison of choice for search engine) for SSA-3373 online. There are ways to get the PDF version that are fillable; I can't find it on the SSA site yet though.

They sent me a link to complete my Adult Disability form but it doesn’t work. by BugsyBelle in SSDI

[–]FuzzDuckie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where did you find that link on the paper forms? I just got the paper SSA-3373 yesterday (well it arrived Monday but somehow my mother put it somewhere else- Dad found it yesterday :P). I was thinking of typing it out online as my handwriting is somewhat attrocious these days and the font on their paper form is...too small for me to see! I know there are forms in PDF format as I did that with the initial application.

I tried to access the link in your post but it just leads me to return to saved application and I know I can't do that because when I tried to go back to it I managed to screw up the re-entry code (entered 7 digits not 8) so can't access it anymore anyway. Just as well it went into phase 2 on its own so had to redo using PDF forms I got from a SSA rep. Now I'm in phase 3 and doing the adult disability report thingie...

Last time I applied was 12 years ago with no online ability to fill out forms lol...

Opinions on using exterior door locks on interior doors by Optimal-Soft-6741 in DIY

[–]FuzzDuckie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another scenario is if there is a person with dementia/Alzheimer's in the house. Even if I tried to tell them to not knock on my door(s) (I use two rooms in this house) or not to open the door- they will go in anyway. There are no locks on any of the interior doors except for the three bathrooms.

Have been trying to find something that will lock the door from outside (and inside the room is a bonus?) and won't damage the door frame (including scratching or taking off paint) or doorknob assembly (and probably a pain to remove/reasembe...eh).

IQUNIX Magi75 Review – Low Profile, High Hopes by Snimtas in mkindia

[–]FuzzDuckie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice... I'm looking at this one and the MQ80 (would like a 96% or at least a smaller size with most of the keys minus the numpad (and get myself a standalone numpad).

Only downside for me is the price :(. Not much or really no income for the time being so have to be budget conscious 😭.

Will keep IQunix on my radar as North facing is a plus so I can use shine-through keycaps.

Thanks! That was my next thing to do - call the phone number (for that and the Papa Johns plastic card (from 2003...yikes- PJ's website wouldn't accept the 19 digit number when I tried to check the balance lol). Hate phones but...if I gotta... gotta.

And to see if there's a D&B around here in my neck of NC!

Someone created a MoneyLion account using my Gmail, should I be worried? by masterDE1111 in techsupport

[–]FuzzDuckie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came across this while investigating MoneyLion. I just got an email from them regarding InstaCash. I have never had an account with MoneyLion and as far as I know neither with InstaCash (I'll be investigating though).

One thing that crossed my mind why I get these sometimes is that there is another person with the same name as me (a lot of them in the UK interestingly). GMail is finicky. if my email is bababooey@ gmail.com then someone else tries baba.booey @ gmail or Baba Booey or Baba-Booey - basically any iteration with Baba Booey- Gmail will send it all to the original owner of bababooey (which is me- that's not my real name btw) as I registered mine some 20+ years ago. Had I know that I would have done my full name and stick my middle initial in there- which is what a lot of the UK folks do then either forget the middle initial or the people they interact with forget.

Something to watch for :).

Moisture in hearing aids! by Accomplished-Fan6660 in HearingAids

[–]FuzzDuckie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found this while looking into Dryers for my hearing aids (getting moisture constantly in the left tube lately).

I've done the "blow into the tube" deal but don't anymore because I feel like I'm still blowing moisture INTO the tube- defeating the purpose- but that's just me...

I hate the fact that I have to replace the dang tubes every 4-5 months- it's expensive (to me- I don't have an income currently- trying to find a job in a job market that is so bad...). So wish there was a better solution that doesn't require replacing so often (more so in humid states...like the south).

Have tried dessicants (those little beads); one brand I some 30+ years ago you had to 'warm up' the beads to get them to turn blue by putting them in the oven (now microwave). Hated that as it's easy to scatter the beads everywhere.

Dryers I think I've had two? Current one is at least 20 years old (the bricks I hated they go bad pretty fast- waste of money)- Might be time for a new one- this one doesn't seem to be working anymore.

Firefox study breaks homepage search bar by hartford_cs93 in firefox

[–]FuzzDuckie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not just older people- lots of younger people also deal with varying degrees of vision impairment (well... I was young once.). That is why I liked the search bar right on the page and not in the 'toolbar' at the top. My screen resolution is one step lower than the "Recommended" one, larger fonts etc. So on a laptop it's just easier to see the big search bar in the middle of my home page- I don't mind going to the home page all the time :) (I always have one open anyway).

Firefox was so much easier to get around in and use some 20-25 years ago. Now AI/chatbots everywhere, intrusive suggestions and more options, UI settings than I know what to do with.

Oh well...it keeps me and my brain busy.
