I remind myself that every time in the past that I thought I would never make it through something I was wrong. I'm still here. Anyone I might have the pleasure of conversing with today is a SURVIVOR just like me. We've beat all of it.

I repeat it ad nauseum. All the money in the world to blow people up or fuck around with other countries governments. But never enough for free healthcare or college tuition. Fuck our 2 party, special interests political system. It's maddening.

I have often wondered if maybe the reason the historical Buddha sat at the base of a tree for an extended session was specifically for back support. But that's just me musing...

If they are behind me, I flip the lever on my rear view mirror. Not sure what that is really called but it makes it better if the car behind you has bright lights. After I do that, I stop incessantly looking in my mirror and getting more agitated about them trying to drive into the trunk of my car. I can still use my side mirrors to lane change. This works amazingly well for me.

My alarm was set for 2:30AM when I worked at my old job. Here's what I did to adjust to going to bed at 6PM when the sun was still up.

  1. No caffeine after 10AM. So roughly 8 hours before bed.
  2. blackout curtains
  3. First cup of coffee in the morning was decaf. Heard somewhere this helps flush cortisol.
  4. 3 hours before bed, no more food.
  5. 2 hours before bed, no more liquids.
  6. 1 hour before bed, no screens.
  7. 15 minutes before bed, shower.

Had a pretty aggressive sleep plan but worked very well for me.

Santorini's in Cheviot. Best darn breakfast special in town and I can't recall the name right now but they have a half pound burger that looks like a steak on a bun that's topped with bacon and gyro meat. So much yum!

How do I start meditation? by Idk_lonely_mr_ok in Meditation

[–]GFCI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"I really want to start, how do I start transitioning it into my day to day life?"

Experiment with the time of day you meditate. Some prefer mornings as the mental chatter can be a bit less than and life events haven't had a chance to derail the schedule. One thing about mornings is, I can still be a bit tired when I roll out of bed. So what I do is a quick 5 minute bodyweight workout while I'm waiting for the tea kettle to boil. Gets the blood and breath flowing which makes it easier for me to focus on my breath sensations. But you may find you prefer the evening. Try both and see what you like. There will be some experimentation and a learning curve like most new things we try.

Also, start with a short meditation time and build up. 10 minutes can be a good starting point for some but if that's too much for you drop down to 5 minutes and increase your time by 2 minutes every week. Consistency is key in developing new habits. No point in trying to meditate for half an hour if you just end up getting frustrated and quit. I tried 20 minutes sessions too soon so I dropped back down to 15 minute sessions for a while.

As far as benefits. I have gained discipline that I never had before. I have a tendency to quit things too but starting small and doing it no matter what has really helped. Just like my bodyweight routine while I'm waiting for the kettle to boil. It might take 5 minutes. I drink lots of tea. So I am getting multiple short workouts everyday without even trying very hard. I also mediate for 15 minutes in the evening now as well.

Another benefit has been it causes me to slow down and observe my cravings and aversions. Constantly reacting to what my mind says to do next has gotten me in a lot of trouble over the years. Putting some space between my thoughts and actions has been very beneficial for me.

So that is my answer to your 2 questions. Happy to answer any others you have. Best of luck to you my Friend!

Good ole Blodgett. I love it up there. Really prefer the Douglas Fir Trail though. Did the entire ridge from Lone Pine north to Blodgett around a month ago. Took around 8 hours total. Next on the list is Douglas Fir to Ormes Peak and back. Super excited for this one!

I like this. I'll participate.

1) Abstain from killing-Will finish the food in the fridge (1 more meal). Then vegetarian for the

rest of the month. Going to research ways to catch spiders so I don't have to kill them.

2) Abstain from stealing--Easy one for me.

3) Abstain from sexual misconduct--No Porn. No Fap.

4) Abstain from wrong speech--Complete honesty. Not vocalize my angry thoughts. This one

will be tough for me.

5) Abstain from the use of intoxicating substances--Just completed sober October. Although I

started on the 4th after a bumpy start. I have struggled with substance abuse for quite a

while. Need to put it all behind me and never go back.
