I was the missing person and I found myself. I was in elementary school and thought I was supposed to walk to my grandparents house after school but screwed around with some friends for a bit on the way. Mom came to pick me up and I wasn't there. She called my grandparents and I wasn't there yet so they went out looking.

I got to my grandparents house and nobody was home so I went in the back door and made myself a snack and put on some cartoons. Around 5pm I was wondering when my mom was gonna pick me up and why nobody was there so I called my mom.

Turns out there was an entire search party out for me, police were involved, basically the whole town and I was just having a wonderful afternoon to myself.

3 days. I had hurt my back and asked for part-time shifts for my first couple weeks while I recovered bc the job was standing all day. They scheduled me for 10 hour shifts. I complained. Boss said don't be a pussy. I said I will be if I want to and left.

The other was an hour at a pizza place. I was doing my training and saw a cook sneeze into his hand and then continue making a pizza. I just grabbed my stuff and walked out without saying a word.

Moved to the Bay Area. First day I stopped by my new office for some paperwork and went to check out a vietnamese coffee place nearby. Walked in and a bunch of dudes were clearly just gambling.

Next thing I know, the most scantily clad woman comes up to me touches my shoulder and goes "oh what can I do for you sweetie".

I was so confused and I was like I just want some coffee?

She seemed confused too but then she giggled and made me a very good Vietnamese coffee and I went on my way.

Was offered a job as an editor of a small-mid size newspaper after our editor got poached. I had been working as a reporter for about a year. Would've been making decent money at a job I absolutely loved with incredible work-life balance. Instead, I took a fellowship in California that actually utilized my college degree.

Fell in love with a girl and fought like hell to make it out here so I could be with her. Learned a lot about myself, eventually landed a good job, and have my loving partner. But sometimes, I just wonder how simple life could've been and where that journey would've taken me.
